Director Steven S. DeKnight just shared a new photo from the set of Pacific Rim 2 / Pacific Rim: Maelstrom! DeKnight teases us by revealing a massive vault door, which could very well be a door to a Jaeger cockpit. Unfortunately we're not allowed to know what lies behind it until Pacific Rim 2 roars into theaters.
The aesthetic of the door mimics that of the weathered iron and steel present in the first Pacific Rim. The lack of "flashy" and "shiny" metallics suggest the world is not as well off as we would have liked to assume it would be following the destruction of the first Kaiju portal. It would seem more so, that Humanity is still battling for survival against a seemingly unstoppable Alien threat and so remains in a state of relative poverty.
