CD Projekt RED has shared fresh details about Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming debut on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it's shaping up to be one of the most ambitious ports yet for the hybrid console. Set to release as a launch title on 5 June 2025, the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 brings Night City to Nintendo players for the first time – and with it, full cross-progression support and modest but promising performance goals.
From Broken Launch to Comeback King
It’s hard to forget the chaotic launch of Cyberpunk 2077 back in December 2020. Plagued by bugs, performance issues, and missing features, the game stumbled out of the gate, prompting criticism across the board. Fast forward to 2025, and the RPG is practically unrecognisable. Thanks to years of dedicated work from CD Projekt RED, Cyberpunk 2077 has transformed into the sci-fi experience it always aimed to be – making its upcoming Switch 2 release all the more noteworthy.
The port was officially confirmed during the 2 April Nintendo Direct, with the developer teasing the Switch 2 as a surprisingly capable showcase for the game. While it won’t rival high-end PCs or next-gen consoles, the portable version still packs a punch – and importantly, it supports the ability to carry your save across platforms.
Cross-Progression: A Welcome Feature
One of the standout features of the Switch 2 port is cross-progression support. Whether you've been playing on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, you'll be able to pick up right where you left off on Nintendo’s new console – and take that same save back again. It’s a smart move from CD Projekt RED, offering flexibility to returning players and reinforcing the Switch 2’s hybrid appeal.
This also means players who’ve invested dozens (or hundreds) of hours into Night City won’t have to start from scratch – a major incentive for fans considering a second playthrough on the go.
Targeting 1080p Docked, 720p Handheld
On the performance front, CD Projekt RED has been transparent about its targets. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the studio confirmed the Switch 2 version is aiming for:
-
1080p resolution when docked
-
720p in handheld mode
-
30–40 FPS, depending on whether the game is set to performance or quality mode
While the studio did admit it's “still improving the performance,” these figures offer a reasonable balance between visual fidelity and fluid gameplay – especially for a game of this scale running on handheld hardware. That said, some fans may be disappointed to see a 2020 title running at sub-native resolutions on a 2025 console.
