Filming for the Pacific Rim sequel officially dubbed Maelstrom will be moving to Brisbane, Australia early next year! Brisbane's Eagle Street will be transformed into a busy Tokyo strip, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Eagle Street, known for its legal eagles and high flyers, features river access and some of the city's top dining experiences, and will become "Tokyo" for the sci fi flick.
Preliminary filming for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom took place last week in the Pinkenba area, near the Brisbane airport as well.
Originally, Pacific Rim 2 was going to film in Toronto, Ontario but then the project was shelved by Universal Pictures following their newly formed partnership with Legendary. That location as well was going to be transformed into a Tokyo city strip. Whether filming will return to Canada or not has yet to be clarified.
If you're a local to Brisbane and/or will be visiting the Eagle Street location in January, feel free to send us any information and photos you manage to take of the sets!
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will see Humanity once again battle for their survival against a menacing Kaiju threat. The title Maelstrom suggests a new portal may have opened up and unleashed an even deadlier force of Kaiju monsters. Official plot details remain unknown but as they arrive, we'll be sure to keep you updated.
