The science fiction genre is the only genre that I’ve always been so fascinated in ever since I was a kid. I’ve watched the entire Back to the Future franchise, I Am Legend, Jurassic Park, and many more. Cyberpunk, dystopian fiction, alien invasion, utopian, and many more — name a subgenre, and I have probably seen at least a few movies from it. Sometimes, I rewatch an old sci-fi movie and contemplate if these writers can see the future because most of those seemingly far-fetched ideas are now real, if not starting to feel real. AI, self-driving cars, space travel, and others. These things seemed impossible to achieve yet here we are.
Now, I want to share the best sci-fi movies of all time that everyone shouldn’t miss watching for their next TV streaming session. Let’s start!
Interstellar (2014)
Interstellar is still THE Interstellar today because of one thing: it's an intellectual masterpiece. The movie is about a group of astronauts who leave Earth to find a new home for humanity because the planet is dying. Cooper, a former pilot, was assigned to lead a space mission. Unfortunately, he leaves behind his young daughter who doesn't have any idea why he has to leave. As time moves differently in space, years pass on Earth while only hours go by for Cooper and his crew.
Since Interstellar has become a timeless movie, it’s widely available on different streaming platforms. It’s also often included in traditional TV services like on DISH TV packages. Yep, it’s that good that even after more than 10 years, people still love watching it.
Ex Machina (2014)
If you're interested in AI, manipulation, free will, and everything in between, you'll love this movie. It's about a young programmer named Caleb who was invited to test an advanced AI called Ava by Nathan, a billionaire. As Caleb does what he needs to do with Ava, things get weirder and creepier. Ava is smart, emotional, intelligent, and even has the ability to flirt. Not a big deal, she was programmed exceptionally, right? But then she suddenly claims that Nathan can't be trusted. From that moment, Caleb needs to figure out what’s really going on.
Inception (2010)
My head literally hurt after watching this 2-hour movie. And also, Leonardo DiCaprio is always a sight to see. Inception is about a group of thieves who specialize in entering people's dreams to steal secrets from their subconscious. But this time, they're given an extremely challenging idea that no one even knows is possible. Their task is to not steal but plant an idea in someone's subconscious. Dom Cobb leads this mission but unfortunately, he's being haunted by his past, which can sabotage everything.
If you’re going to watch this movie, I really suggest you check your internet first to see if it’s up to the task. You wouldn’t want to experience buffering while watching this great movie. If not, it may be time to look into better internet options like Boost Infinite.
Europa Report (2013)
I really think Europa Report doesn't get enough credit for being one of the best sci-fi movies out there. The entire film is about a team of astronauts going to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, to look for signs of life. Just like any mission, everything seems to be going according to plan, well, until it isn't. What I loved about this movie is it's super realistic. The terrifying possibility of everything that's happening was so real, so it would make you think for days.
The Bottom Line
The sci-fi genre is too big, which means more movies for us to explore and watch. If you’re new to the genre, you’re on the right track. You’ll be here for a while, I’m sure of it. I hope you give these titles a try because they’re really good. Enjoy watching and let us know what you think!
