The hate towards this film is a little silly. I personally found it to be the third best film in the franchise, being better than Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
It goes back to the darker roots of the franchise and presents fun action, good twists, fantastic characters, and really solid acting. It starts off as a reboot and a sequel at the same time and then goes off on it's own story, with the only similarity it comparing to is the destroying SkyNet at the end.
Jason Clarke as John Connor is fantastic and the soundtrack by Lorne Balfe is true justice to the franchise.
I can totally see why James Cameron saw this as the true sequel to the franchise.
