Critics love this movie, fans hate it. I'm somewhere in the middle. It's good but not great; nowhere near as good as the OT, but I'll take it over the prequels any day.
First, I'll explain my gripes with the movie. Rose is the Jar Jar Binks of this trilogy. Finn had more chemistry with Poe Dameron than with her. And speaking of Poe, he did a lot of dumb shit, and got no consequences. Then there's the whole Canto Bight plotline. A message about animal cruelty simply doesn't fit in a series where the central theme is about good vs evil. We could've gotten a Knights of Ren backstory instead of this shit.
I did like the cinematography, score, and character development. The action scenes are great, with my personal favourite being the fight in Snoke's throne room. The reveal of Rey's parentage, which I won't spoil, makes her character deeper. And Kylo Ren is the most interesting Dark Side wielder in canon since Darth Sidious/the senate and his grandfather, Darth Vader.
