Big budget, great effects and a pretty good cast, but in the end this monster was quite soulless. I really am a bit baffled by the direction of this film. Prometheus setup an entirely different approach, which has been by now abandoned, or so it seems to me.
Alien 5 by Blomkamp should have been the next movie. Covenant overall is a waste of time and a lot of money. I don't know if studio execs got to involved and wanted more monsters or perhaps Ridley Scott has lost his creative nerve and was afraid to pursue a true follow up to Prometheus? Who can say? I am very disappointed and to be clear Covenant is not a horribly made movie, just that the potential it had was dreadfully executed and let down by this sequel.
Maybe eventually we can all see the Alien 3 we always wished we got after Cameron's brilliant Aliens, but the prospect of Scott having much to do with that possibility is quite nill.
