Summary: A joint scientific investigation between the governments of Japan and Rolisica (a stand in for America and Russia) leads to an interesting discovery. While initially the scientists agree to not disturb the island, human greed sneaks its way back on the island and steals something that awakens and ancient monster.
The Good: Most of the human story is interesting and engaging. The monster is an interesting idea, and how the humans have connections to the monster is also a nice addition. The music helps add mood while not being boring or feeling like it is padding for the movie.
The Bad: Once the monster shows up the human protagonists take a back seat and some of their story doesn’t make as much sense.
Conclusion: This is a must see for any daikaiju fan. Not only is it the introduction of an interesting daikaiju, it is a good film on its own.
