Review Godzilla film review by Akagi

It's not the deep, dark, super serious Godzilla film most fans were wanting-- and for that reason alone I liked it. The movie features the most heroic, goodguy Godzilla in the last twenty years. Not since the seventies has Godzilla been portrayed in such a morally flattering manner.
However, if you're looking for something deep, full of emotion, and super serious-- you should probably look elsewhere. The movie's general tone is that of a typical pop-corn flick-- it has little merit beyond that. The preformances are adequate, at best. The story itself is great, if it were left in tact, however the history of the universe is quickly outflooded by half-arsed attempts to make us care or feel something for the main character, which I did not. I had a hard time believing Ford was the same little kid featured in the beginning of the film, there was little emotional link, and overall, the characters were very two dimensional.
The worst aspect of the film though, and a complaint from me in most Godzilla movies is-- not enough Godzilla. My personal fears were all realized in this film, yet I still enjoyed it.
But was it the Godzilla movie I wanted? Thematically, yes, aesthetically and dramatically, no.
I enjoyed it-- it had all the problems that a normal Godzilla film has, just with a big bright coat of American RED WHITE AND BLUE smeared all over it. Godzilla is a hero again, a legend, and I love every second of it.
