While I enjoyed the last installment this one brought nothing but disappointment to the point that still to this day do I feel sorry for my dad for allowing me to drag him to see it opening day on christmas. I'll just say this, the movie is bad. When I heard the Strause brothers were directing I felt that at the very least there would be good visuals and special effect. I mean these guys had a pretty impressive resume at the time for visuals. Somehow nothing worked. The movie wanted to be dark. When I say that I don't mean edgy and grim, I mean dark as in everytime something is happening you have no idea what it is. The movie will literally film every fight scene with fast paced movement and dark backgrounds. The predalien. I mean jesus; the aliens looked so good in the last AVP, but this time they were so cheep they had a person in a suit, but that's not the problem, the problem is the person wasn't tall enough to fit the size a predalien should be so they always filmed in from the waist up. Go watch the movie and get a laugh when you see the short legs that look so horrible on the bigger torso.
The movie does have balls, killing off a kid in the beginning, and then the love interest halfway through, only problem is that I didn't care. I can't even tell you the names of any of the characters. Honestly the movie probably would have been stronger if they just killed all of them. None are likeable. The only one I slightly cared for was a mom who just got back from service. The two brothers the movie liked to focus on were a joke. The love interest who dated another guy despite liking one of the brothers, because I mean, that's how most relationships start right? You date someone who completely hates the person you really like then breakup with them and immediately try to get with the other guy prompting you ex and his friends to jump him in a pool to the point of trying to drown him. It's such a bad story element. The older brother is just kind of there, he never really does anything storywise, but show up to be there. The only thing I remember him doing is getting the predator's gun.
If there's one good thing this movie did it was make you appreciate AVP, because no matter what problems AVP had AVPR makes it look like an Academy Award winner.
