Before this whole thing gets derailed everyone calm down...
There is NOT going to be ANY depiction of a graphic rape. This is not XXX pornography.... But the suggestion that something vile happening is what is going to happen.

I don't pretend to know what seeing a rape scene feels like from a woman's perspective, but I do think that part of the reason men often don't seem to understand how horrible it is for women (ie: jokes about rape) is because it's not depicted realistically in many forms of entertainment and they never have it "shoved in their face." I almost think it's doing society a disservice when it's "softened" to make it more palatable for audiences, while at the same time I think making every movie that includes an element of rape unwatchable for most women also does them a disservice. I don't know what the solution is, but I disagree that it should always be depicted in a non-vulgar way because, for me at least, the more disturbing a scene like that is, the more I am disgusted by and hate the character I'm supposed to hate. It's a tool to move a character further over on the evil spectrum.
That being said, if you think Ridley Scott is not capable of dreaming up a situation in which a female is impregnated via the traditional orifice by the mechanical pod she is in, or by a creature on it's own, I'd have to disagree. Having someone impregnated orally and have the fetus eat it's way through the abdomen was pretty out there in 1979. People were throwing up in theatres. I wouldn't put it past him, although I think he would be selective about what was shown on the screen.

Hmm. Telepathy might be "corny" - but it need not be. It would seem risky, as any kind of "projected consciousness" deal would certainly need some pretty stylish handling...and yet: that head...
It's already iconic, it is represented as a "character" in the film and it is totemic to the point that the film is being marketed around it - (it's even the default avatar for your site!)
So, I would agree with a suggestion that it would appear a fair assumption the head is hugely, hugely significant.....beyond, "face" value [ ; ) ].
I haven't seen it discussed anywhere else and I just cannot believe the head is there just to provide dramatic shadow while it dominates that silo.
Assuming that the head is altogether stone, inert and sightless might just be to walk the path of skillful misdirection. We've already been given evidence of part the ceiling of that chamber, (or something on, or within the fabric of the ceiling), appearing to plasticize and animate - when we could equally well have assumed that the ceiling would be stone and completely inert...
"He" certainly looks stone-like, with his cracked forehead and face pocked with glyphs - but what is this subtle, but definite, net of capillary-looking pipe-works all over, and into, his dome? Just more "carving"? And is that "carving" really only representative...or actually functional?...
What is his story?
I feel certain he has something quite important to communicate to us, as an audience, beyond just being in that room...

They milked the franchise dry... Where is our alien of yesteryear ?
I hope that this new movie will not try to show us a proto alien, but something new...
I laughed my ass out when I saw Alien 4 with this crossing between human and alien... It pains me to say this gunk was fimed by a french director....

While I am certainly no rocket scientist (lol).. the confusing parts about this are that a LIGHT YEAR & the SPEED OF LIGHT are two completely different things, but they get mistaken for each other.
A LIGHT YEAR, is a essentially a unit of LENGTH/DISTANCE, equal to just under 10 trillion kilometres !!!
The light-year is often used to measure the HUGE distances to stars and other distances on a galactic scale, especially in non-specialist and popular science publications.
The SPEED OF LIGHT is just that.. a measure of VELOCITY. The speed of light in vacuum (call it c), is a universal physical constant important in many areas of physics. Its value is 299,792,458 metres per second, a figure that is exact since the length of the metre is defined from this constant and the international standard for time. In metric units this speed is approximately 300,000 kilometers per second. In imperial units this speed is approximately 186,282 miles per second.
According to special relativity, this is the maximum speed at which all energy, matter, and information in the universe can travel. It is the speed that all massless particles and associated fields (including electromagnetic radiation such as light) travel in vacuum. It is also the speed of gravity (i.e. of gravitational waves) predicted by current theories. Such particles and waves travel at regardless of the motion of the source or the inertial frame of reference of the observer. In the Theory of Relativity, c interrelates space and time, and also appears in the famous equation of mass–energy equivalence E = mc2.
Anyway, thats my paraphrased summary...for what its worth.

Yeah! Everything to do with Aliens is already in our minds! And in the other hand that is WHY we are here!! But we shouldn't (with all respect) seek for more of the same! Let alone that they crashed the Aliens franchise with Aliens versus Predators disaster movies!!! By the way I apologize for my spelling errors, no excuses!, i'll do it better from now on!!

Hey, I'm all for the weird Giger stuff, don't get me wrong. But from a mainstream or business point of view, Fox nor Ridley would never go for the really out-there stuff. Like you said, suicide.
Darwin,
Got to be honest, I haven't seen it! Rape in film is typically used as a major part of the plot and the character's motivation, but it all depends on execution. I know "tasteful rape scene" sounds unnatural, but a good director can do it in a way that makes it clear to the audience what's going on, even so far as showing the actors' faces during the act, without trying to sadistically shove it in our faces. It is such a sensitive issue (I know this has been discussed on here before, so I apologize), that it really takes a good director to handle it in a way that is powerful and leaves a lasting impression on the audience without being vulgar.
That being said, impregnating an anesthetized Shaw on a medical table would be a more clinical medical procedure and so less violent, but obviously "she ain't sleepin" during that scene. But like I said, I don't have a clue as to what that scene's all about. I think it is probably a removal and not an insertion, though.

I'm with Frantz on this one. I think its obvious that Fifield is undergoing some kind of metamorphosis, but I don't think he turns into a proto of the alien we see in "ALIEN". And I dont think his character "combines" with that of Holloway's or Shaw's to create the proto Xeno.

FTL-capable SEV. FTL = Faster Than Light. How much faster than light. If they travel with light speed it will still take 37 years to travel 37 light years. So the term FTL mightbe several times faster than light. Let's see, anything can evolve into this amazing universe.

There's always the possibility that the various goo and mutations in the trailers have nothing to do with the xenomorphs from the rest of the franchise. Maybe we'll see everything go to hell in Prometheus until benevolent aliens show up to save the Earth by carpet-bombing LV-426 with alien eggs... killing off Shaw, the Space Jockey, and supporting cast.

i personally look forward what prometheus has got in store for us - curious how the departure from the "old" alien movies will turn out - and to be honest - the old xeno vs. human shoot out would rather be disappointing - like ridley scott said "been there - done that" - i´m glad that he tries to add something completely new to the story - moving one or even a few steps beyond the well known universe - and i would have expected nothing less from him!
bring it on!

ReplySlowboatPrometheus ForumOriginal SJ Xeno impregnation = eagle eating Prometheus' liver?Apr 3, 2012
I do think that the xenomorph impregnation stuff will be a pretty direct analogue of the eagle & liver situation.
I wonder if any of the characters will be assuming the roles of Heracles or Pandora? Heracles slaying the eagle and releasing Prometheus from his torment seems very similar to what is going on in these trailers.
