Well, in a critical sense. I think G'14 is a failure in terms of story and characters (specifically referring to the handlings of Godzilla's minor screentime and the wasting of Joe Brody)
HinikunaGoji, sonictiger,
Yeah, I wouldn't call a movie that made profit somewhere in the neighborhood of $130-$210 million a failure--False advertising or not.
It's still the only Godzilla movie (and Monsterverse flick) to cross $200M in the United States.
sonictiger,
The Unicron Trilogy shows (Armada, Energon & Cybertron) are probably the strongest--Specifically some of the insanity they pull off in Cybertron.
A lot of Ancient Cave Paintings/Petroglyph seemed to NOT show much about Space Craft but Certainly many had Strange looking beings. The ALIEN Franchise is a Alternative Universe to our OWN and so you can BEND what we Actually have in History to Match the Engineers.

But YES we could have some Paintings etc that seem to show the Juggernaught Ships. Or even Reveal the Engineers using like Pyramid Type Ships.
I love Godzilla 2014, I only saw the initial trailer to Godzilla 2014 in theaters
A movie that is deemed a failure is a movie that doesn’t do well at the box office.
Godzilla 14s advertising made Godzilla seem like a villain in the movie, but the movie preformed well and was still liked. So false advertising isn’t what constitutes a failure.
Anyone else remember seeing the G14 trailers in theaters.
Just ordered a new gaming laptop and pre-ordered the game on Steam. Can't Wait!
soon, I have been working on AVPU since I have a case of writer's block with Rise of the Kaiju
Yes, that's my point.
A movie with false advertising usually is deemed a failure.
Hopefully James Earl Jones voices him, I don't want another "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" moment.
Jurassic World because it isn't afraid to take risks in the creative storytelling.
@Xenotaris, Thanks!
Also when is Rise of The Kaiju returning?
@SonicTiger
I believe the G1 Transformers are the strongest
Right now, I consider the prequels rather pointless. I watched Alien the other day and not for one second did I think the Space Jockey was an Engineer. I'd rather the Engineers are shown to be false prophets or something.....A parasitic race that steals and deceives.
So a return to Lv-223 is my final answer.
what is going on
how about Mechagodzilla (MV) vs Destoroyah?
I think it would've been cool to see a cave painting of a juggernaut with the Engineer near it. Would have been very alieny.
"They arrived in this vessel..."
Which are the strongest Transformers iterations?
If it's Bayformers, then any incarnation of MechaGodzilla would likely shake them to pieces with just the quaking of their footsteps. They've got to be the weakest iterations of the characters considering how easily they fall to conventional, handheld military weapons. I mean, regular firearms were rendering them blind in the the third one.
How about MonsterVerse, RPO, and Earth Mecha G

y e s
and again i have no knowledge at all of Transformers
Definitely depends on which iterations of MechaGodzilla and the Autobots.
that's called false advertising
I agree i think the Ancient Astronaut/Creators Plot does OPEN the Franchise to Great Potential.
Ridley Scott has said the Engineers would come back from TIME TO TIME to Evolve us both Genetically and Technologically. The Plot seemed to Indicate that as of 2000+ Years Ago, then a Lot of our Knowledge had been Passed on by the Engineers when they Visited us..... they likely Influenced/Taught us some of our Construction/Architecture. But they would likely NOT go and Teach us EVERYTHING so we do-not have a Equal Footing.
We can Ponder as to HOW OFTEN they came back? And for WHAT other Purposes.
The Story of ENOCH could be something that the Engineers have done with Various Humans over the Years. I would be SURPRISED if the Earth as of 2000+ Years Ago was the ONLY PLACE in the Galaxy with Humans....
Which is what i would have done with a Prometheus 2... go to a FAR FAR AWAY Place... like 15000 LY or more... a Place with Humans and a Few Engineers but maybe also other Races.... like a Real Paradise... as in the Engineers would Collect and TAKE a Few Hundred of Each Species they Deemed Worthy to go and LIVE with the Engineers.
If we loosely look at Biblical Accounts as Fables Based on Engineer Interaction then People like Jesus and Enoch could have been Granted Access to Engineers Knowledge as the Engineers would take them AWAY for a While.
These CHOSEN beings could ACT as Emissaries for the Engineers.
I do think that Eventually we would have seen Xenomorphs had Ridley Scott got to make any Sequels..... he made some INTERESTING Comments about the Xenomorph.
*He Felt that you had to Evolve the Xenomorph.
*He Felt you could look at other ways of Procreation.
*He said that we have NOT YET reached the Bio-Mechanical Fiend that we see in ALIEN.
I think RS would have Explored the Egg Morph.
Regarding the more ALIENY Elements i had added to a Edit (which i Lost) of Prometheus.... well i have said MISTAKE 2 was to NOT have a Sequel which goes to LV-223.
We have a BIT of a Problem Now.... and i think MISTAKE 3 would be to GO where David is going... So YES i think IF they had to make a Sequel then it would be BEST to go to Planet 4......UNLESS..... we have David take the Covenant to LV-223.
All I'm saying is, I usually feel a bit wronged when movies don't deliver what they promise in the marketing.
sonictiger,
While I do think there's merit to how personal expectation is met based on how a film is advertised, I do not think marketing should be one of the variables used to judge a film's quality.
"...Milburn Chest Burst "
That would have been awesome! And more like an Alien movie. A pity for sure.
Seriously...Ridley had the keys to the kingdom once again!
Could have a least established some egg morphing ideas.
Yeah, we've had this topic before.....If the Engineers designed this as a 'test' then it's a really convoluted one!
Those cave paintings could have never been found and then what?
Better off building large objects on Earth that would stand out for thousands of years and point to the system or leave long lasting metal plaques all over.
But it's the ancient astronaut theory stuff from the 70's and i'm actually cool with it!
Makes a little more spice then just:
Scientist :"Mr. Weyland deep space probes have found evidence of an alien structure on a moon many light years away"
Peter Weyland "Cool. Lets go visit this site!"
Godzilla Vs. Kong advertised a bonkers battle and it gave us an absolutely bonkers battle. Kong: Skull Island promised more screentime to the title character since Godzilla '14 failed to do so.
So yeah, you're right. It's probably why I think GVK and KSI are the stronger films and G14 and KOTM are the weaker films.
k :)
ill redraw it from the beginning cause 1: i dunno where the old one is
2: outdated art
3: it wasnt very long anyway
I grew up on the anime to Kikaider
" if we look at the extended scene in which Peter Weyland speaks with the Last Engineer he does not initially attack the humans rather simply studying them. His decision to attack the humans is based on the hostility of Shaw towards himself"
Indeed i saw this too.... The Engineer seemed to be Intrigued with Dr Shaw, but after he had Witnessed the Actions and Arrogance of Weyland he had KNOWN that Mankind are STILL a Race who are Greedy/Selfish and ONLY CARE about their OWN Personnel Gain.
When the Engineer had Arrived at the Life-Boat he had seemed Fascinated at the Technology and Especially the Video Screen that was Playing the Violin Girl. There are a Number of Scenes we have NEVER seen... which Include the Engineer squatting down to Read a Book (The Bible).
All of this Implies the Engineer was some what Fascinated by WHAT we had Achieved since they Abandoned us (after the Outbreak). But Knowing that we have Advanced to be able to FIND their Worlds and USE their Technology and seeing HOW it was that Weyland put his OWN NEEDS above the Others... then the Engineer saw that Mankind are a THREAT that they FEARED and we are a Destructive, Greedy Race.... and so he had NO CHOICE but to Continue with the Planed Mission to DESTROY US.
But with these Scenes Deleted and Alternative Scenes making the Theatrical Release, and RS was Pleased with this... seems to Indicate they had a CHANGE of Plan to HOW they wanted to Portray the Engineers.
So our Engineers were just ANGRY at us and ANNOYED...
"but it seems to me LV-223 was designed to be a testing ground for species seeded by Engineers and it was there that it would be decided whether the creatures could be allowed to go to Paradise with them"
Again this is HOW i saw LV-223, they are Gardeners of Space and if your a Gardener and you want to Evolve/Hybrid or Create something NEW then you would be Better off to TEST these somewhere before you are PLEASED with the Results and then you go and TAKE them to your Gardens.
I see the Juggernauts as merely a Advanced Version of the Seeding Ships (the Original Idea was NO Pebble Ship but Croissant Shaped Juggernauts) And so when i look at the Engineers on Planet 4, i see them as a Race where its Considered a Great Honor that some would be Chosen to become the Foundation of NEW LIFE.... The Ships come Time to Time to Collect some Engineers and they are Taken Away to be USED in a Ritual to Seed/Evolve Life.
This could Explain the Reaction of the Planet 4 Engineers.... which FITS with the Overall Creation Plot and the Sacrificial Scene and Statues and Especially those that Surround the Hanger.
But RS sees they as Welcoming Back the Military....
I Missed this Topic...
The way i looked at the Star Map before Alien Covenant was the Engineers were indicating to the Humans that THIS is WHERE you COME FROM. With LV-223 i saw as a Nursery/Green House a Sandbox. But this became Perverted at a Latter Date to Experiment on Horrific Life-Forms.
It was NOT a Invitation as i think the Engineers had No Intentions to see us Gain Knowledge to a Technological Level that we Reached in the 20th/21st Century. When the Outbreak had Occurred i think the Engineers just Abandoned us.... leave us to ROT and Destroy Ourselves but in their Hubris and Naivety they LIKELY had NEVER thought that on our OWN we would be able to Advance to what we had Achieved the Last 200 Years... (Prometheus Time-Line).
In LIGHT of Alien Covenant... then the Engineers could have been Pointing to Planet 4, and again NOT as a Intention of a Invitation. And as Planet 4 had LIKELY some kind of Technology to keep it HIDDEN then the Prometheus just came to a Near by Star System and Targeted the ONLY kind of World they saw that has the Possibility to Sustain Life (LV-223).
@Tinde
Humans as a Bio-Weapon? Thats Interesting to say the Least, as we are Very Destructive to our Environment.... IF we had NOT gone to Evolve Past what a Ape is... Then you can be sure the CLIMATE CHANGE would be NO-WHERE as Bad and the MANY Organisms/Animals that are Endangered or Extinct would be WAY MORE LESS.
So we are Destructive, but as a Bio-Weapon it depends on WHY.... the Engineers could IF they had Conflicts, had Sent Down some Humans with some Weaponry thats more Advanced than the Species the Engineers would like to Eradicate and then Humans would LIKELY go and Destroy/Conquer them....
So thats a Interesting Question/Theory.... i think it Depends... another way to look at it is IF the Engineers had seen the Deacon/Neomorph etc as a Perfect Bio-Weapon and Killing Machine.... well THEY would NEED a HOST. And if a Deacon/Neomorph like Organism... is more Perfect if it comes from a Humanoid Host like the Engineers....
Then to Create Humans to USE as Hosts for their Bio-Weapon Monster/Killing Machines could MAKE SENSE ;)
Indeed...
In Hindsight then YES the First Prequel did-not have enough ALIENY like Action, it was also NOT a Spoon Fed Literal Prequel.
With Prometheus we got to see the Engineers and ONE of them did some KILLING of our Human Characters..... but as FAR as anything more ALIEN.... well we had the Following.
1) Hammerpedes: We saw TWO of them and ONE had Attacked Milburn, but there was NOT a lot to this.... all we could Conclude is their was a Slight Similarity with a Face Hugger and we saw ACID BLOOD.
2) Zombie Fifield: We saw Fifield become Infected with the Black Goo and become some kind of Toxic Avenger Mutant Zombie. And it was FIFIELD who had done MOST of the KILLING.... he also did-not have much of a Connection to the Xenomorph.
3) Dr Shaws Trilobite: With Dr Shaw infected via Holloway we got to see her become Pregnant with a None-Human Fetus..... the Trilobite was some kind of Hybrid of a Face Hugger/Human. We could see its Connection to the Face Hugger by HOW it had Infected the Engineer.
4) The Deacon: The result of Dr Shaws Child (The Trilobite) Infecting the Engineer to Result in a Chest Burster Organism.... the Deacon. We could make some Connection with the Xenomorph but again it was NOT too Close to the Xenomorph.
So from these Alien Monsters.... there was NO Real Pay Off with the Hammerpede, and while we saw ONE with the Trilobite we Never got to see NOTHING of the Deacon, it would have been like ALIEN just Ending after Kanes Chest Buster Scene.
There was NO kind of Action Scene apart from the Fifield Attack.
About the ONLY thing that Fans took as some Connection to ALIEN was the Mural as MANY had seen this as the Xenomorph (but it was a Deacon).
The Alien Engineers Draft had more Action and more ALIENS.... we Encountered and saw a Hammerpede (more like Centipede than a Snake) and we saw Three Kinds of Face Hugger, we saw FOUR Kinds of Xenomorph like Organisms (inc TWO that we see Chest Burst), Fifield was more a Xeno/Human Hybrid with ACID BLOOD and so there was MORE Action and ALIENS.
What Prometheus had Needed was a Balance.....
I had Re-wrote Parts of Prometheus and some of the Changes Came to the Monsters.
1) Fifield had Mutated into something we could see more of a Xenomorph Connection too and had some Acid Blood. (Just as in Alien Engineers). And he also does-not KILL as many People.
2) The Hammerpede that Jumps from the Mouth of Milburn would go to try and Attack Ford but Janek would manager to Prise it away and then it gets Shot.... we see Acid Blood but then as we ZOOM in we see inside of it are TINY like Eggs.
3) Upon the Return to the Outpost with Mr Weyland and Company we have TWO more Security Personnel they Stay in the Big Head Room, and they Notice that Milburns Body begins to Move... they go Closer and we see Milburn then Chest Burst some Hybrid Organism (I envisioned like the Unused Prometheus Variant and so CLOSE to the Neomorph).
This goes to Attack on of the Security the Other in a Panic Shoots at it but it Hits the Security Guy being Attacked. The other Panics and Flees Off.
We then CUT to the Engineer Scene..... when David Talks to him and gets his Head Ripped Off.....
4) As we see Dr Shaw running away and then where she gets to the Outside she Catches up with the Security Guard and they Hear a Screech...... as the Security Guard Turns around we see the Milburn Chest Buster it is Larger Now.. he Fires a Few Shots at it... they Miss...... he Turns to Dr Shaw and Tells her to RUN... she Jumps the Opening Hanger Door to then be able to RUN ALONG the Surface (She is Joined by Vickers as per Prometheus).
The Security Guard then attempts to Jump and he Barely Catches the Platform/Door of the Hanger.... but the Milburn Burster then Jumps and Climbs over the Guard, it looks Down to him and we see a Inner Mouth Appear and it Punctures the Guards Head, he then Falls into the Abyss of the Hanger.
We then cut to Vickers and Dr Shaw running and the Juggernaught Falling from the SKY..... Vickers is then Sprung on by the Milburn Burster and it Attacks her and she is on her Back Trying to Fend it Off.... then she sees the Juggernaught and Screams.... the Juggernaught then CRUSHES both of them.
What THESE Changes had done is make more of a Connection to Fifield/Black Goo and Organisms related to the Deacon..... it gives a Pay Off to the Hammerpede making it a Face Hugger or Sorts. The Milburn Chest Burster is in Part Responsible for the Death of THREE.
We get to see more ALIENY Action but its NOT a Overload... by looking at the Monsters we can make more of a Connection to ALIEN and the Xenomorph.
But ALAS.....
The Mistake they Made in Hindsight after Prometheus was as i had Mentioned, they should have GONE back to LV-223 with a more ALIENY Movie that could IN PART then Close the Door to ALIEN and then it allows a 3rd Prequel to then go to WHERE we have David and Dr Shaw go and they would NOT be Shackled Down to Connect to ALIEN.
i hereby alive this topic.
should i still write that Robot Masters vs FW Gigan? i remember being so pumped about it i even drew a comic which of course never got finished lol
then again, i never started writing it
