If they go with the Engineers as Canon... or even IF they Reboot the Space Jockey but some PARTS of the Plot are the same (Race who Genetically Engineer/Create some Horrific Biological Warfare of which the Xenomorph is just ONE KIND).  Then YEAH! that would Work and allow for a ALL MANNER of Horrors...

Or.... what Happens to a Infected World after Hundreds of Years.... do we see some Evolution going on to Create something Different?

Hopefully none of the old characters will be in it, or be tied to it. No Ripley, no Amanda or her cousins, no Shaw, and no Daniels. When you get away from old characters it seems that you open it up for new possibilities, you don't need to be like “oh this must be connected to X so we must do this and that”. As far as the planets are concerned, like BD mentioned, you can make new ones. It's not the worlds that have been the problem.

Those colors remind me of avocado :D I would like to see new variations of it, some of them that might look very different. I like to think about the Engineers and what kind of monsters that they might have discovered and developed. Having more of the same Xenos would feel like a repetition.

I think it would be Interesting to see Different ways to Exit a Body... i always FELT that ALIEN 3 would have been Better if NEWT was to be the ONE who Chest Busted, that would have been more Shocking..... as i dont think the GORE alone seems to do anything as we are USED to it Now...

Seeing a Female with her Fetus/Child becoming Mutated and Belly Bursting could be Horrific but we KIND OF saw that with the Pred-Alien from AVPR.

We have kind of Seen them ALL.... a Head Buster we have NOT (Hallet was a Mouth Buster). And we have NOT seen the ASS-BUSTER!

My Response to the OT....

I dont think Initially its WISE to STEER to FAR from the Aesthetic of the Vanilla-Version if you would... Certainly NOT as Different as the Neomorph and Deacon (never-mind the New Born).  So HOWEVER they make their Initial Xenomorph Discovery should be CLOSE to the Original....

But then maybe in the Latter Stage of the Movie (or Sequel) or Latter Stage of TV Series or Season 2, then YES i would like to see some CHANGES.... be that Experiments on or a Evolution of the Xenomorph.

I Certainly want to see OTHER kinds of Procreation Explored... (EGG MORPH anyone).

I would like to see a bodyburster and a goreburster on screen

Originally then David was NOT the Creator of the Xenomorph even as of 2014 this was NOT the Case..... but it seemed he WOULD go and Create something!

MISTAKE 1!  Alien Covenant.

Alternatively they should have GONE for a Parallel Sequel.... David is OFF on a Big Adventure with Dr Shaw... but we Do-Not go there.... NOT YET!

We get a Sequel where a Investigative Mission goes to LV-223 in Search of WHAT had Happened to the USCSS Prometheus....... there are at LEAST another 4 Temple Complexes on LV-223.

You have a Movie that is more Action, where we can Uncover more Murals, we can have a Organism or SHOW how we get to ONE that is Similar but Different to our Xenomorph.  Where as we get enough Clues to HOW a Xenomorph could have came to be, and HOW its Connected to LV-223.

We END with LV-223 being DESTROYED... but someone Escapes (or a Probe or some other way to Obtain Information) that Alludes to another Engineer Ship being on LV-426 for Thousands of Years.......   THIS leads to Special Order 937 and Closes the Door to ALIEN.....

David and Dr Shaw are FREE to go off and we could get a STORY that does-not have to have Xenomorphs or Connect to ALIEN........ But what about Fassbender he would NEED to be in the Sequel..... prior to where David goes?

YES there could have been another David Model sent to LV-223!

MISTAKE 2!  Giving Up on Alien Covenant Sequels...

Again this is SIMILAR to the First Idea..... David and the Covenant are OFF to Origae-6.........     The Advent Message to the Company could LEAD them to go to LV-223 and have a PLOT/STORY as i Suggested prior...

OR.... we have a Mission that arrives at Planet 4 where we have Xenomorphs.

Again we have  a more Action Packed Movie..... we see the Engineers Arrive at the END.... (maybe a Human Ship Escapes but there is NO need for Survivors)....

We END with some Engineers with Walter, they seen such Potential in a None-Organic Creation, they are also Impressed with the Xenomorphs (have some Dialog in Engineer with Subtitles).   The Engineers take away Walter and some Eggs..... we see them Loaded onto a Ship...... it leaves...

END CREDITS.... in the Background you show as Credits Roll a Ship heading to what looks like LV-223....   Fade to Black.... as the Credits Roll you show the Ship Landed near the Outposts on LV-223..... Black in/Out to inside a Outpost a Engineer is Experimenting with Walter, and the Eggs....  you then BREAK from Credits..... you have ONE of the Engineers looking at a New Egg.. and they SAY something about Discovery that Perfection Lies Beyond Organic Creation, then another will SAY....  NOW all we have to do is TEST IT.

Credits Continue..... UNTIL they END....

We then get a AFTER CREDITS Scene.... a Engineer (or few) are on some Platform they Observe a Massive Egg Cargo Hold... they Use some Device and a BLUE FIELD covers the Eggs... they walk to a DOOR that OPENS... they Depart the Cargo Hold....   We then Focus on the Egg Hold and....

A EGG OPENS........ the END.

This would Indicate the Engineers would be Impressed with the Xenomorph Created by David but also with the Synthetics.... they would TAKE some Eggs and Walter to LV-223 where they Experiment in using Walter and the Xeno to CREATE a HYBRID a Bio-Mechanical Variant that they MASS PRODUCE and LOAD onto SHIPS.

What we have is the Engineers go and PERFECT the Creation of David, but then we have it that WITHOUT the Engineers Knowledge and Black Goo then David would NOT have Created the Proto-morph and so David becomes the MIDDLE-MAN.

Then SHOULD  they Continue with where David is going then THIS would leave them Freedom to NOT have Xenomorphs or Shoe-Horn into ALIEN.... we could have David Create something ELSE!

So we come down to XENOMORPHS and the ALIEN Franchise....

The STORY kind of Reached its Conclusion with ALIEN 3 (bare with me).

*If there was something to be Salvaged from LV-426 then WHY would they go after Ripley? 

The Answer is having known she is Gestating a Queen they have a 100% Viable Source, where as LV-426 would be a Unknown and Greater Risk.

Ripley goes ahead and Sacrifices herself into the Furnace and THUS the Company has NO Xenomorphs....

We then have 200 Years where the USM Company then Successfully gain a Specimen via Cloning of Ripley.. (A Plot that is NOT Plausible..... NOT how it was Presented).

What we have is a 200 Year Ball Park between Alien 3 and Alien R where we have to Assume....... There was NO other WAY to Obtain a Specimen!

HOWEVER.... this does-not have to be the Case... as LONG as after such a Discovery/Events something HAPPENS to Completely Eradicate..... EVERYTHING so there is NO Specimens.....

So you have the Following OPTIONS... for a MOVIE...

A) LV-426 and the Derelict.... has the Destruction of Hadleys Hope lead to the Derelict and its Cargo being Completely Destroyed?

Maybe some Eggs have Survived but there is some Radiation which means Mutations... the COMPANY could then ATTEMPT to Extract and Obtain a PURE Strain in the Process....... to be FAIR.... this is MAYBE what the Blomkamp Plot could have been about.... but also the RED HARVEST Project?   Who knows?

B) The Facehugger (s) from Fiorina "Fury" 161!

If you can Genetically Obtain Xeno-DNA from Ripley then SURELY you can gain it from a Face-Hugger or at Least some DNA that can be USED to Create something of a Hybrid?

C) Regardless of the Derelict and Eggs Origins.... can we ASSUME that the Derelict was the ONLY such Ship to have such a Cargo?  Did the Space Jockey place ALL THEIR EGGS into ONE BASKET?

And so (C) is the BEST kind of Source to go and MAKE a NEW Movie that does-not Directly Connect or Affect the others....

THIS is without going into the Prequels... as they OFFER a EVEN LARGER Source for more Xenomorphs and the LIKE.

Which when i look back at what i have SAID.... it Puzzles me to the PLOT of the TV Series.... WHY OH WHY! (Time-Line mainly).

REGARDING the Movie as a STAND ALONE...

It depends on HOW it Connects.... the TV Series is a Concern for me UNLESS its a Alternative Take like say how we have the SPIDERMAN Movie Franchise and then the AMAZING SPIDERMAN Movie Franchise.... TWO Alternative Takes....

We have to LOOK at where is the Movie going to be SET and HOW it Connects!

1) Is its going to be ANOTHER Alternative Story? (something Novels and Comics often do).

2) Will it Connect to the TV Series so the TV Series Acts as Direct Canon/Prequel?

3) Will it Connect with the ALIEN Franchise but IGNORE the Prequels?

4) Will it Connect to the WHOLE Franchise which Includes the Prequel?

NOW when i say Connect i mean as in the EVENTS of the above have Occurred.. so for Example... within Context to the MOVIE then the Derelict in ALIEN etc has HAPPENED.... or if does-not Connect maybe then there is NO Direct on LV-426 as we get a Alternative Take?

Time will Tell.....

Now by being NOT Connected to the Previous Movies what this Means at the Minimum is that we will NOT be getting a Continuation of the Ripley Story or Ripley 8 and likely we wont be getting ANYONE who is Connected to her...... And it also means we will NOT be going to where David is OFF to and WHAT he does NEXT.... but likely we WONT go to Planet 4 either.

We SIMPLY cant be sure if other Events are Canon though, for Example the Existence of LV-426, LV-223 and Planet 4 and the Engineers including their History with Mankind etc.

The FRANCHISE had HIT a PICKLE... with Prometheus by Virtue that it WAS NOT going to Directly Answer the Question to HOW/WHERE/WHEN the Eggs got on LV-426 and it NEVER had any Xenomorphs.....

But Prometheus had Expanded the Limited Universe..... it had OPENED the Door to be more than about Xenomorphs... the BIGGEST PROBLEM came when Powers that Be... thought that a SEQUEL would have to GIVE the Xenomorph and Origins etc..... and WELL what a MESS that Followed (The Plot was OK but David could have Created a ULTRAMORPH and not indicated in the Original).  But i dont want this TOPIC to become about that Debate...

My Point here is that the POWERS that BE had Concluded that Fans are MORE Interested in a ALIEN Movie that gets back to WHAT the Franchise was about.... Xenomorphs and so they had to come up with a WAY to Bring them back!

The Problem is they are CLUELESS as to HOW to do this and this Included Neil Blomkamp and Walter Hill/David Giler as the TWO kinds of ALIEN V they had Planned would have the Xenomorph which is FINE... but they also thought you have to have RIPLEY.... NO you Dont!

It's basically the Disney model. Be safe and familiar as possible for maximum profit. Though since it is being sent to Hulu hopefully there's a little more freedom in how they can do it.

Agreed ^ if they have the setting be Earth I'll be extremely disappointed. The series will be set in Earth enough, this movie should introduce us to a new environment, a new planet or space station.

Well we KNOW NOTHING of the Movie YET.... we do KNOW of the TV Series being SET on Earth and Prior to Alien Covenant and so that could be a Conflict with the Franchise as a WHOLE!

Unless as i have said before that the TV Series is a Alternative Universe... like say the 90's Batman vs the Dark Knight Series... and Various Incarnations of Spiderman etc...  Then that would NOT go and Conflict the Franchise too much.

Now would this MOVIE also be another Alternative?  Is this what we are NOW going to see (Alternative Takes) or is the MOVIE going to be Canon/Connected to the TV Show?  Is the MOVIE going to be Canon/Connected to the ALIEN Franchise and/or Prequels?  Or are they ALL going to be Canon?

Only TIME will TELL i suppose.

Regarding the space Jockey its Revelation is just something that Happens with Movie to Movie....

However..... YES i think they could have Given us the Space Jockey as another Race who are Connected to the Engineers a say 12 Foot Humanoid..... but ALAS.

Will the New Movie or TV Series go and ATTEMPT to SHOW or even HINT that the Space Jockey is NOT a Engineer?  I doubt it with Ridley Scott connected to the Project (not that thats a BAD thing).

I had heard Prior that there was Supposed to be WORK on a MOVIE and NOT a TV SERIES in the Works for a 2022 Release, but with the Pandemic i Guess stuff gets PUSHED BACK... also maybe the STORY back then has been Modified/Re-wrote?

Only that it was NOT a Continuation/Connection to RIPLEY and her Story or the Prequels but something NEW and Different.

Its Good News that we will FINALLY see another Movie but as of NOW we can only GUESS if its SET as CANON or NOT to either the Original Movies or Prequels.

Indeed Jonesy, I always preferred the Jockey being a mysterious alien being - not an Engineer bio-suit. If the Jockey is even still a part of the new storyline, I would be happy with a reinvention of that mystery. I'd be even happier if the Jockey turned out to be a different being the Engineers worshipped - Lord knows there's plenty of examples of how that could tie together in these forums hahaha.

Part of me is rather disappointed though that we won't be getting a proper conclusion to David's story.

One of my personal favorite monster books from my childhood (and the one that inspired me to make this forum) was "Mythical Monsters", which featured a variety of different creatures from mythology, literature, movies, as well as a couple of cryptids, with a brief profile of them with some really cool illustrations. The book happened to feature not only Godzilla and Kong, but also Mothra! Needless to say, this book definitely fueled my monster obsession growing up.

a new take would be interesting though, and somewhat I prefer the Space Jockey being a mystery forever. But I still want the new film involves the original Alien universe and timeline.

I don't think they are continuing David's story, sounds more like a soft reboot of sorts or rather an interquel that focuses on a new characters. I hopefully around the 2180's

Ughh, Fast Pacedness is the bane of horror. I mean even James Cameron's Aliens was slow in the beginning

Great news! I hope to see more of David.

And I also hope it will be set in space, not on earth.

I get the feeling thanks to Disney this will be a more straight forward Alien movie especially considering Alvarez's body of work. Evil Dead is a fast paced horror movie and Don't Breathe is a fast paced thriller. Even the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre he produced was fast paced and straight forward.

As long as they don't radically change the lore, then it will be fine. I love the Queen and the hybridization aspects of the creature from previous films

Agreed. I really hope we see the inclusion and exploration of the Engineers again, but part of me thinks we'll be moving away from that angle with this new standalone film... 

Fear of the unknown is probably a big reason why it works, or worked. The more you know about it the less terrifying it gets, unfortunately by giving it a background the prequels made it a disservice. Maybe Alien Covenant made the lore worse by implying that David made it. It makes it less alien than to make the Engineers responsible.  

You could say that Alien R and the AVP's made the monsters less scary, but the prequels are official (AR can be seen as a joke, maybe), that's worse even though they're better as movies. Perhaps you could bring back the terror of the Xenomorph in some way and undo the problems of the prequels, but I'm not sure how.

They can have some about androids, but that shouldn't be the main-focus. Give me something about the Engineers. Even though the prequels included many disappointments, at least they gave us the Engineers.

It's good to se that it won't be a David-adventure. Get someone that can write characters and focus on the humans (capital H). Please give me more about the Engineers in some way
