I believe it is a representation of an adult Alien form birthing from a Space jockeys chest. The representation shows the final product rather than the Chestburster and it appears as a "birthing" rather than a bursting the artist showing the reverence the Xenomorph life cycle is given in their culture. It's like they become these great beings, it's a privilage to birth them etc.

@Franz... Empire magazine only speculated that Welyland was old man. The qutoe frome article is "a mysterious old man that nobody, but nobody, is willing to go on record about". they never confirm anything!

i would get rid of alien 3, i HATE 3!!! i didnt care for AVP but i cant say how much i disliked 2 because i was pretty drunk both times i attempted to watch it and hardly remember anything besides the opening scene in the woods.

The message from superiors to save the life form was not present in the original story. It was added to the 1951 film adaptation. I wonder if it's the first fictional instance of an order from superiors to protect the enemy.

@ clone.... im so jealous of those autographs! @bio LOL @craig yep, and most of the people who were mean to me are losers now, so HA! @altered im in the basket!! lol. i LOVE the basket case movies, the first is my fave but the sequels are great in their own way. escpecially when belial gets his robot body. @PRO i rarely paint my nails. when i do i wait for the paint to fall off before i paint them again. im not very prissy :) and i wish i would have won that contest! i dont think i have ever won anything cool, besides from a little cash.

@bio: it's supposed to be "space jockey" not "space fruit of the loom" @perps...and yeah, Nestor recounts fighting giant men in the Iliad. Apparently the world was covered with space jockeys about 3000 years ago.

I have story about graphic novels: We had about 10mins to spare before going into see 'the phantom menace' in the cinema, so we went in a shop just to waste-time and buy kets. A friend handed me a copy of the phantom menace graphic novel, saying "you use to like comics check this out." I brainlessly flicked through the book and the page stopped where my thumb was...... right at moment where darth maul is cut in half. I screamed NNNOOOOO!!!! and closed my eyes, but once its seen it can never be unseen haha moral of the story is..... never read a graphic novel unless you wanna spoil the movie

That's the problem though if sequels are done to great films and turn a piece of classic cinema into fun popcorn they become parody's and lose all the respect they have built up over the years hence ridley 's quote that the xeno belongs in disney now .

I'm sure everyone has read a book and seen a film based on it that didn't live up to their expectations. I read first two Aliens comic series and first AVP comic series and thought they would make great movies. Unfortunately Aliens and AVP went in a completely different direction from the comics I loved and were a total disappointments. If anyone else has read these original Dark Horse comics I'm sure you feel that same way?

I'm NixtonV. The minute I saw the Prometheus trailer in theaters for the first time, I knew I was a fan. I honestly don't care if the xenomorph appears in the movie or not (ok, I kind of want it to, lol), because knowing Ridley Scott, it'll be great regardless. I have a few theories of my own that I'm willing to share and discuss, and ultimately I just can't wait until this movie comes out. Love the cast and the premise, and it'll be great to see the story Scott has planned out for us.

AvP was a fun movie. Plus, it wasn't intended to be taken seriously, so IMO, no harm done. It obviously wasn't intended to fit in canonically to the Alien stories (although say what you will about the Predator films. Predator 2 DID have a Xenomorph skull in it). AvPR was an atrocity though. Completely terrible, with no redeeming qualities, except maybe the Predators didn't suck so much in it, lol. Now, in terms of the actual canon, I enjoyed Alien Resurrection, but I personally discredit the legitimacy of anything that happened after Aliens. My personal belief is that Space Jockey's create Alien Queens based on their advanced biology, and Alien 3 discredits that by putting a queen in Ripley. I'm hoping that Prometheus proves me right (the description of the aliens featured in this movie gives me hope that I might be), but I'll admit that it's still a longshot. To answer your question, the only movie I didn't find a little bit enjoyable in your list was AvPR. However, Aliens was the last "great" movie xenomorphs were featured in. If a type of them appear in Prometheus, then maybe that'll change.

I always assumed that the Alien Queen from Aliens was the result of a Space Jockey "birthing" a xenomorph (specifically the body they find in Alien with its chest ripped open). Of course, Alien 3 completely defied my logic by putting a queen in Ripley, but assuming that Scott only references the original Alien (which in itself mildly hints towards a Queen, albeit indirectly) maybe the xenomorphs that burst out of the Space Jockeys will in fact resemble/be equivalent to Alien Queens? Another board said that the Aliens featured in this film would be much larger than typical Xenomorphs, and the Queen seems to fit the general description provided.

Those are such great movies...I'd call both obvious entries in the category of sci-fi masterpieces.

It should have a better budget than Alien. According to IMDB the original budget for Alien was 4.2 mill and then Fox doubled that. Lol

PRO II....I have my issues with 'The Thing' prequel as well....but I don't know where you get E.T. like thing idea...in both versions it's killing people to imitate and over run...there's nothing evil about trying to defend yourself at that point...it's about survival and the thing makes no bones about it..in essensance saying, 'your're all fair game'. Heck, in Carpenter's 'The Thing', it kills someone right off the bat when the dog enters that room and you see the guy's shadow....I'm sorry, but there's no communicating with that thing..

Big fan of the dressed up "Steel pot" helmets and Vietnam era jungle boots in Aliens, myself ;)
