Yes, Godzilla won.  He killed Kong but Kong was saved because hmmmmm, monke.

Technically you could argue that the scenes of dinosaurs eating people in the Jurassic Park/World movies could count as reptiles defeating primates.

Humans are classified as primates, and dinosaurs are classified as reptiles.

Godzilla technically did won the battle against Kong, Kong was just brought back to life to kill a Robot

I hope the MCU and Live Action Disney Remakes gets franchise fatigue because other more deserving movies need to shine

I think that was due to the Muto's EMP ability messing with Godzilla's atomic fire breath

Xenotaris, yeah that was a bit strange and Godzilla seemed very nerfed in 2014 considering that he managed to get more hits in with Ghidorah.

You basically proved my point about that.  Here's an example of my claim: Millie Bobby Brown managed to make a character who had mediocre writing into a really good character due to a performance that elevated a good chunk of her scenes.  So yes, KOTM had good actors.  But some of the characters were too far gone in the writing department to the point that acting couldn't save a bad character.

Considering how GVK is one of 2021's top grossers domestically, Legendary and WB will most likely be clamoring for Toho to work with them again.

Also on the Spider-Man bit this goes to show how studios are willing to do anything with money even though the MCU is getting dangerously close to suffering franchise fatigue.

SasquaDash,
Yes, but the Japanese film industry is far better at keeping a secret than the American film industry which has a much larger market for "insiders". (Shin Godzilla was in development as early as March, 2013. News broke it was coming December, 2014. Singular Point was in active production for two years before news leaked five months prior to its premier. Alternatively, it was reported that Legendary bought the Godzilla license in 2010--A whopping four years before its release.)

Many Hollywood movies, supposedly in development, that go on for a year without announcement usually aren't happening. Obviously the hope is we're not quite there yet, but consider Legendary's track record: Dune's sequel was greenlit the weekend of its release. "Godzilla 2" and "Godzilla 3" (which now seem to be Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong) were announced two days after Godzilla '14 opened. The one anomaly was Pacific Rim: Uprising which was caught in a behind-the-scenes crossfire with Legendary's partnership transition from WB to Universal.

The film industry may have indeed changed in the way it distributes content, true. But if Sony's knee jerk announcement of three more Spider-Man movies is anything to go on, one thing that hasn't changed is the mad dash to produce money-making content and capitalize on immediate hype for IP.

I really like all of the monsterverse movies but 2014 the humans and the kaiju were more or less linked. Ford pretty much saves Godzilla from the MUTOs by blowing up their nest and luring them away with the nuke.

Human characters aren’t just shaped by acting performances, KOTM had good actors.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has changed a lot for filmmaking. Just because they haven't fully announced that a movie is in development doesn't mean that something isn't being worked on. I think stating that the MonsterVerse might not continue because they haven't made any big announcements yet is a bit ridiculous. With that logic you could argue that Season 2 of Singular Point won't happen because Toho hasn't fully announced it yet.

@sonictiger: As the reception of the last few movies in this universe have shown, a lot of people (unfortunately) don’t care for the human characters. So if we end up getting one more film instead of another slew of them, it might sacrifice the human story again to elevate the monster story.

Nah, everything sucks and human characters that are good are mainly shaped by the acting performances.

Well the delta variant is who we need to thank for that one.

Listen, Toho will probably only give Legendary one more chance if they haven't parted ways already.  Also, they're going to have to find a way to get people in seats because saying that Millie Bobby Brown is in the movie won't cut it.

SasquaDash,
Nothing is actively in development though. They've just mentioned they've kicked some ideas around. The closest we have to an official word is from Borenstein saying there are, "exciting things that are happening" and he's not even actively involved anymore.

Though, as you and HinikunaGoji say, indeed Toho may be the holdout. But given the box office of Godzilla's last solo Monsterverse flick, especially in comparison to the Kong titles, I wonder if Legendary thinks dealing with them is worth the investment.

Toho probably wasn't too thrilled with how GvK did in Japan either.

Here’s what I think we’ll get…

1. Godzilla graphic novels

2. Kong graphic novels

3. Mothra and Rodan graphic novels (possibly?)

4. Skull Island anime

5. Titan War anime (possibly?)

6. Kong 2

7. Kong 3

8. Godzilla 3 (possibly?)

9. Destroy All Monsters/Godzilla and Kong team up

I’m now feeling conflicted on if we’ll get another Godzilla solo film. Since the last Godzilla film underperformed, Legendary may decide to have Godzilla show up alongside Kong in a future film. Kong has made more money than Godzilla so far, so maybe Legendary will opt to have Kong be the future of the MonsterVerse with Godzilla showing every now and than.

As for the future of Mothra and Rodan, if we get another Godzilla film, I think at least Mothra will return, and at most, we’ll see both monsters return. If we don’t get another Godzilla film, they’ll probably return in a Destroy All Monsters film. I doubt they’ll get any solo films. Legendary may decide to expand on their characters in future comics and graphic novels.

It's hard to tell. There are statements from Legendary mentioning that there'll be a couple of new instalments, so it's possible that we probably get at least two movies along with the Skull Island Netflix show. For the most part it seems like we'll get a couple of instalments centered around Kong, however it's currently unknown if, or how Godzilla will be involved or if Legendary will renew the contract with Toho.

Based on the plot description stating that the show will focus on a group of characters shipwrecked on the island and trying to survive and escape, it will might take place before the events of Kong: Skull Island, since Monarch has had a presence on Skull Island since 1995, and it wouldn't make sense to have it take place between 1944 and 1973, as it would clash with Hank Marlow's story and Monarch's first expedition. My best guess is that it might focus on the Wanderer ship, which was briefly brought up in Kong: Skull Island as shipwrecking on the island around 10 years before Marlow arrived.

That leads me to wonder about the skull island show, will it be pre GvK or Post.

Post doesn’t seem like an option but I feel an idea of saving skull island, or restoring could be interesting.

Except they've stated that there are future instalments being developed and they announced that an animated Skull Island show for Netflix is in development/production, so the MonsterVerse isn't exactly over. It looks like, at the very least, they're going to continue the series with Kong, Toho and Godzilla's involvement is the only thing that's uncertain at the moment.

Just because they haven't fully announced future movies yet, doesn't mean that the series is over.

Im beginning to worry Toho isn’t going to give the rights back.

If we get to April without an announcement, there's a real possibility Legendary is done. The longer we go without hearing anything official, the less likely it will be.

Legendary has six films coming out in the next 2-3 years and 25 other films in development, none of which are Monsterverse titles. They've either cut it loose and found more viability in other projects or are prepping an announcement within the next 3-5 months.
