Star Wars and Godzilla are two of the most awesome franchises of all time, so the idea of a possible connection between the two has us nerds practically wetting ourselves. So we're eternally grateful to director Gareth Edwards, who went on the Star Wars Show (video below) to reveal that Rogue One is indeed connected to his 2014 Godzilla film. He was quoted as saying:
In Saw [Gerrera]'s cave, there's some cave paintings. One of them is of the creatures in my first movie, called Monsters, and there's some MUTOs and Godzilla. I didn't ask for it, it's just they did it as a joke, and I just came in one day and spotted it during the middle of a take.
Whilst we'll probably never get an official Star Wars/Godzilla crossover, this is still probably the next best thing. We also got the Clone Wars episode The Zillo Beast (pictured above) was also a loving homage to the King of the Monsters.
Rogue one opens on December 16.
