This is an alternate universe where Zilla’s parent (parent of Zilla from Godzilla 1998) came from a meteor and crashed into the earth during the late Cretaceous 72 million years ago. She was roughly 25 feet tall, 60 feet long, and 12 tons. The Zilla species can only grow past that size if they come into contact with extreme radiation. She asexually reproduced (yes that can happen without a mate) and laid one egg. But she didn’t want anyone to challenge her rule over the land masses (which she only found out AFTER she laid the egg, being the 18 meter dick that she is) so she left the egg by itself in the wild and went into the hollow earth to grow, expecting the egg to be eaten by carnivores. The egg soon hatched and Zilla was born. This is The Zilla Chronicles.

Note: some of these facts, times, and habitats are told wrong for the pleasure of the reader. So sit back, relax, and don’t take it too seriously.

                         CHAPTER ONE

A huge, two-meter tall egg sat in the jungle. Birds made sounds all around them. An ankylosaurus herd sat nearby, drinking from a river. The egg was just sitting there when a quetzalcoatlus saw the egg and swooped down to eat it. Thinking that this was going to be its meal, a sound came out, sort of like a tapping noise. Tap. Tap. Tap. The quetzalcoatlus approached cautiously, confused by the sound. The tapping stopped and the large pterosaur walked over and tried to pick the egg up, but it could not. It tried for a minute or so but it still could not lift the egg. Agitated, the quetzalcoatlus stabbed the egg with its beak, hoping to break the shell and eat what was inside. The shell broke open, and was something inside. The pterosaur looked back on its last egg meal, recalling that the creature should not be this big or developed already. The quetzalcoatlus ignored that thought and lifted its beak out of the ruptured egg. A small noise came out of the dark egg, sort of like a whine. The quetzalcoatlus kicked the egg and it broke apart on a tree. The creature, covered in fluid, stood up and stumbled out of the shadows. It was the size of a deinonychus and it had long arms with opposable thumbs. Small spikes start small on its neck and become big on its back and back to small down though its tail. It resembled a theropodal creature. This was Zilla. He would grow to be the biggest of his species over tens of millions of years in the hollow earth. Zilla shook his head and body to get the fluid off of it. The quetzalcoatlus tilted its head at the Zilla with confusion as it had never seen something so large and peculiar before out of an egg. Zilla tilted his head back at the creature. The quetzalcoatlus walked toward ZIlla to take him back to its mate. Zilla squirmed back and forth as vigorously but the pterosaurs’ claws did not let go. On the other hand, the quetzalcoatlus was wondering how its claws did not pierce the thick skin of Zilla.

The quetzalcoatlus dropped Zilla into its nest near an African swamp a few hours later from a height that any other dinosaur that size would die from, but Zilla stayed alive and looked up at the quetzalcoatlus with anger. The male quetzalcoatlus, dropped down from the sky after dropping Zilla and the female, walked toward Zilla. There was a patch of eggs behind the female. Surrounded by two giraffe-tall pterosaurs, Zilla was doomed. He heard a river nearby. Zilla roared as loud as he could and looked directly at the male quetzalcoatlus. The two quetzacoatli took a few steps backward. They approached again and started harassing Zilla with a series of beak jabs. Zilla tanked a few of the jabs without little effort but the male quetzalcoatlus lifted off the ground and landed on Zilla with extreme force. The female walked away, thinking that the male would kill Zilla. This maneuver was repeated over and over, but Zilla stayed alive. The tired male stopped jumping and looked at Zilla. There was a crater under Zilla but Zilla opened his eyes and jumped on the male, its claws ripping through the pterosaur’s fur and skin. Zilla slashed with his arms and legs over and over again, carving into the quetzalcoatlus’ chest cavity. Soon, the quetzalcoatlus was dead and Zilla was eating it. The female walked over to the sound of the commotion and screeched in anger at the sight of Zilla standing over the dead male’s body. Zilla turned around and looked at the charging quetzalcoatlus. He turned around to see the quetzalcoatlus lifting into the air and flying away, just to come back at ZIlla flying and breakneck speed. Zilla ducked under the speeding quetzalcoatlus and let his back spikes do the rest. The female quetzalcoatlus’ chest was cut open and all of its vital organs were exposed. The quetzalcoatlus groaned weakly and died from blood loss and sock.

The quetzalcoatli and the eggs would feed Zilla for another two days, occasionally going to the swamp to get some water. One time,  Zilla saw two huge creatures on two legs with some kind of sail on its back with eggs near the tree line. Interested, Zilla moved closer to the creatures and saw that cracks were appearing on the eggs. The creatures sat eagerly, waiting for something to come out of the egg. Something clicked in ZIlla’s keen mind and he realized that he had just been that egg a few days ago. But he wondered where his two creatures that waited eagerly for him to hatch. A head poked through the eggshell and the male creature nuzzled the female. Three other eggs hatched that day and Zilla was mesmerized. By the time Zilla decided to go back to the quetzalcoatli, it was already sundown. He went back and saw that the corpses were gone. Looking around, ZIlla could see well in the night, being specially evolved to see in darkness. He could see a big, three-toed footprint in the mud. Zilla sniffed that air and remembered the scent of the quetzalcoatli and followed where it led.

                              CHAPTER TWO

Zilla tracked the scent for some time through the night but could not find it, as there were other scents disturbing ZIlla’s underdeveloped olfactory system. Zilla went back to the swamp, finding comfort to lay on the warm sand next to the quietly bubbling swamp.

Zilla woke up the next day refreshed, but hungry. He saw movement under the surface but didnt know what to do. The creatures he saw yesterday were also awake. He observed them as the male walked over to the water and stepped into it. He kept going deeper and deeper into it until all that was left above the water was his head and his sail. The male creature moved his legs like he was walking but he didn’t touch the ground. The male creature dipped his head underwater and. Lifted back up with something wriggling in its mouth. The thing in its mouth was as big as Zilla but Zilla was determined. He stepped into the water and continued to step until his feet did not touch the ground. Zilla briefly panicked because he thought that he was sinking, but he just stayed there, wading in the water. The two adult creatures were watching Zilla with intent, waiting to see what he will do. As ZIlla was turning his head toward the Spinosauruses, something sharp grabbed his leg and pulled him underwater. Zilla made a bubbling noise as his head was taken under.

He looked down and saw something with a long body, short legs, and long jaws. Zilla inhaled like he would on land but it felt different, like, he was drinking the water but not really. With his foot still inside the Sarchosuchus’s mouth, Zilla kicked as hard as he could and his claws scratched the roof of its mouth. The crocidliian let go and blood spurted from its mouth. Zilla wanted to go to the surface but he knew that the Sarchosuchus would come for him again. So he swam down and stood on top of the Sarchosuchus but the Sarchosuchus rolled and ZIlla was thrown off balance. The Sarchosuchus grabbed Zilla’s neck with its jaws and attempted to do the death roll. Zilla’s gills got ripped and he started drowning. Flailing his arms and legs, Zilla tried to break free, but no such luck. Then, the Sarchosuchus let go. The Sarchosuchus bellowed in pain as the male Spinosaurus pushed it to the lagoon floor. ZIlla swam to the surface as quickly as he could and took a deep breath. He coughed out water and blood. Zilla swam back to the surface and lay to rest. The male Spinosaurus walked up to him and lifted him up by his mouth. ZIlla tried to break free for a moment but he realized that the Spinosaurus was not trying to kill him. He was taking him back to their nest.

After they got there, the Spinosaurus set him down gently next to the infants. The female looked skeptical about an animal in their nest that could easily eat their babies, but the male trusted ZIlla to not eat the infants. The two Spinosauruses left the nest to get food for the night and came back with two ouranosauruses and dropped them on the floor. As the Spinosauruses ate, ZIlla waited for them to finish and went to eat. All of the good organs were gone but Zilla did not complain. He ate the leftovers of the two ouranosauruses and went to sleep.

The sun was rising and Zilla rose up and yawned. Zilla’s gills still hurt, although not as much as it did the previous day. The Spinosauruses were still sleeping so Zilla decided to go and find something to bring back for them. He knows that he could not possibly take down something that will feed the whole family group, but it’s worth a try….

                            CHAPTER THREE

Zilla looked around and detected a scent in the air, not a dead animal, but the scent of blood. ZIlla followed the scent, thinking that it could possibly lead him to a wounded animal which would be easier to kill than a healthy one. Zilla followed the scent for some time and stepped in a puddle. ZIlla looked down at the puddle because it had felt different. His food was directly in the middle of a HUGE, three-toed footprint, dwarfing Zilla’s body. Shivers went down Zilla’s spine as realized the sheer size and weight of the creature he was tracking, as there was blood next to the footprint. Zilla slowly stepped out of the puddle and looked in which direction it was going in. Zilla jogged back through the thick jungle and made his way back to the Spinosaurus nest. He realized something was off. The infants looked smaller than before. In fact, everything looked smaller than before. The Spinosaurus hatchlings woke up at the sound of Zilla walking and their sounds woke up the adults. When they first saw Zilla, being bigger than yesterday, they tilted their heads, wondering if he was the same one they saw yesterday. They smelled Zilla and concurred that he was the same one. They started to look for something to eat but Zilla led them to where he saw the footprint. Once they reached there the adult Spinosauruses froze.

The male began to pace nervously and make noises, probably talking to his mate. This was the most emotional Zilla had seen the Spinosauruses since the hatching of the eggs. Something caught Zilla’s eyes as the male was swinging his head around. Three large scratch marks running down the right side of the male’s face, not fully healed. Zilla continued to learn the Spinosaurus language and he had understood something along the lines of, “first, eggs, gone, big, hurt, and shark tooth”. Zilla wondered what “shark tooth” meant but he had realized that they already had one batch of eggs but they were eaten by a big predator, and the one Zilla has been tracking was the one. The male stood protectively over his babies and looked in all directions. The male looked in the direction of the footprints and looked at the blood on the ground. Anger filled his face and he roared as loud as he could. Zilla heard the roar as “I’m coming for you!”

The male sent the female back to the nest with the infants and the male invited Zilla to come kill the predator and get food back to the nest. Zilla replied that if they kill the predator, it would be too heavy to drag all the way back to the nest. The male then called back the female back and explained their predicament. Zilla offered they would make a new nest somewhere else and the adults agreed.

They followed the footprints for a while and when it was midday, they found something. They found the footprints leading toward a nest of eggs, and the parents were not there. The Spinosauruses led the infants by Zilla and went to investigate the nest but Zilla pointed out that he smelled the scent of the big predator and warned them to get out of the nest, and they jogged out of the nest before the ambush happened. The two parents of the creatures jumped out of the trees and growled at the adults. Zilla noticed something wrong with their teeth, they looked like the fish’s teeth he saw in the lagoon. A shark-toothed lizard. A Cracharodontosaurus.

Zilla stood in front of the infants to protect them from the gaze of the  Cracharodontosaurus, but it did not work. The male Cracharodontosaurus saw the babies behind Zilla and sneered sinisterly. That’s when the male Spinosaurus lost his temper. He bolted towards the male Cracharodontosaurus and rammed him to the ground. The female Cracharodontosaurus walked toward the male Cracharodontosaurus but the female Spinosaurus slashed the female Cracharodontosaurus in the neck. The male Spinosaurus was getting pushed backward despite his best efforts so Zilla sprinted up to him and jumped on the male Cracharodontosaurus’ neck. The male Cracharodontosaurus stopped pushing on the male Spinosaurus and focused on Zilla. Zilla bit down on the Cracharodontosaurus’ back and felt its spine under the thick skin and bit down as hard as he could. The female Cracharodontosaurus was getting double teamed but the two Spinosauruses. The infants were watching safely from inside a bush. The male Spinosaurus has clamped down on the female Cracharodontosaurus’ neck and the female Spinosaurus slashed at its chest. The female collapsed on the ground and the Spinosaurus stepped on its head, crushing it. Blood spewed everywhere.

The male Cracharodontosaurus was shaking violently but Zilla did not let go. Zilla finally let go and was thrown off of it. Zilla recovered quickly and jumped on it again, this time his claws digging into the Cracharodontosaurus’ back and exposing his flesh and somewhere in there, his spine. Zilla held on with his feet and continued slashing until he could see the exposed spine. He slashed as hard as he could and he cut the nerves inside the spinal column, rendering the Cracharodontosaurus paralyzed, but not dead. Zilla started to eat the male alive while the others, including the babies, ate the female. Zilla got most of the vital organs along with some flesh before he felt full. He turned to see the male Spinosaurus walking towards the eggs. The male Cracharodontosaurus, hanging on by a thread, watched as his eggs were crushed under the 7 ton behemoth.

2 days later

Zilla had grown immensely, and so have the infants. Zilla was now 10 feet tall, and 20 feet long. They had found a nice swamp where they could eat and grow. Zilla felt kind of bad for taking their food still after he could get food for himself. At sunset, after the meal, Zilla told them that he has to learn and grow on his own to be able to survive alone. The Spinosauruses agreed and Zilla left the family group with sadness, but proud that he was going to survive on his own without something helping him for the first time in his life.
