For those unfamiliar with the band TOOL, guitarist Adam Jones once worked for Stan Winston Studio as a make-up artist, sculpture and set designer. He contributed to both Jurassic Park, Terminator 2 and Predator 2 props.

After leaving employment with Stan Winston he masterminded several of his bands iconic video-clip. Eerie, almost Gigeresque clip full of occult symbolism.

The clip for Schism contains many props, creatures and imagery that look remarkable similar to the Engineers and Neomorph births, including parasitism and body horror similar to elements of the Xenomorph.

Im not suggesting that Adam Jones had any hand in Prometheus or Alien Covenant, more that he that parallel visions and ideas that run similar to that of the where Ridley Scott was going with the Engineers and the Genesis of the Xenomorph.

My question is, had Adam Jones stayed with Stan Winston Studio would you have liked to see his style and vision shown in this clip as an alternate design to the Engineers.

This is great! Tool videos always messed with my mind but thinking of them in terms of the general Alien universe makes a lot of sense to me.

Adam is a fantastic artist and it would be interesting to see what he could bring to the table. It certainly makes one think of the Engineers in a different way- tough to describe.

Thanks for bringing this up!

Thanks dk

It would have been interesting to see the Schism model as an Engineer. Much less clean and masculine, slightly more androgynous, visceral and generally creepy. Where you knew the Prometheus Engineers were physically powerful, you wouldnt know what to expect here, they give more of a lithe strength kind of impression. Quick and spontaneously violent I imagine.

Certainly Interesting

The Soundtrack kind of has the same Theme/Tempo of Dominic Hailstone's The Eel (which RS said he got the Concept are team to reference back to a number of times)

Interesting. The Eel has more of a mechanical sound overall while Schism sounds more organic. Biomechanical anyone?

yeah my thoughts exactly when i ran my thread the other night lol.Undeniably creepy and Gigeresque(That's a word that should be in the dictionary lol)

Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

BigDave well in a further twist of fate and coincidence after Dominic Hailstone's The Eel efforts Hailstone was hand-picked by Adam Jones to direct an upcoming TOOL clip for their new album!!!

Alien: Covenant Effects Artist: New TOOL music video should come this year.

The lines between TOOL and the Alien franchise overlap again

There is no confirmation on a new Tool album anytime soon- after 12 years I give up. Seems Adam could definitely get busy with something else! Bring it on!

My spidey-sensors are picking up more excellent Gigeresque/Alien vibes in the Vicarious clip...translucent Engineer being, more internal parasitism, a trilobite, themes of creationism and symbiotic relationships....

Agree. I have noticed over the years that Tool music and videos are thankfully open to several interpretations depending on what one is looking for. That said, some things strike too close to home like the thingy coming out of someone's eye- very Prometheus.

How "Gigeresque" is The Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth with 46 and 2 as a soundtrack!!

Adam Jones had nothing to do with Pan's Labyrinth (this is just a fan-cut video) but just imagine if Guillermo del Toro's visionary work was involved with Alien: Covenant and the Neomorphs looked anything like the Pale Man instead of the CGI things we got.

That's how you do menacing!

Indeed that fitted together well ;)

I agree that the Neomorph was a great idea, just think more time and $$$$ was needed either on the Practical Version or the CGI Version.

You just have to wonder what a extra 3 months and $40-50M to the Special Effects/Creature Department and CGI Department could have Churned out...

I also like this Fan Art..

By Adnan Ali...

Has a very Deacon Mural look to it

It is very similar to one of the Props that was used for one of Davids Experiments, its shame that design was not showed more...

I wonder if something similar is in store for Daniels?  Well its certainly not to far off what have visioned for her Fate.

Here is another by them, that kind of fits the Pale Man and Neomorph.

This fan art is fantastic for sure, but things should progress toward the mix of biological with mechanical so we can see a tie in with Alien- the work might be out there for all I know.

I actually find the pics BigDave posted to be better than the neomorph.

ModeratorPraetorianFeb-23-2018 9:09 PM

Agreed! Those are intense Neomorph design.

What is interesting about the latest pic from BD above is that it looks completely biological. The skeletal features are absent suggesting an earlier evolutionary specimen. The white veins suggest the "blood" of the android? The breasts also suggest a nod to a queen?

I didn't know that about Adam Jones IRaptus. I hadn't listened to Tool for a while and you are correct.

So many elements were very close to the symbolism shown in Alien movies...the tree of life, the neomorph birth through the skin, and the Engineer-like couple later mutated/combined...I had forgotten this video and the concepts comparison is uncanny. Great topic.

To answer your question, yes. I would love to see Adam Jones' style incorporated into Alien films had he stayed with Stan Winston Studio. He is a very talented artist.
