What he says is that is derivative, it is cash-grab and it undermines the original Alien, which he considers should not have an backstory.

MemberFacehuggerDec-22-2017 7:43 AMAlien Covenant is potentially the greatest movie ever made; the only alternative is Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals
Alien Covenant is about reality asking Heaven for a Heaven that includes reality: because of this, the 1979 film Alien and the sequel Aliens deserve to be ignored

MemberTrilobiteDec-22-2017 10:28 AMI agree with him in many ways; he made some good, short and sweet points. That said, I still enjoyed AC.

MemberNeomorphDec-22-2017 1:35 PMNo surprise here, it was almost like they didn't care for the human characters and made it into a sort of boring AI movie so I say that it deserves it. Please stop posting pictures of people that you happen to disagree with, if that is the case, it is disrespectful and yes it seems that I agree with red0guy.

MemberNeomorphDec-22-2017 2:06 PMJoylitt: I hope so, they didn't care for the human characters and only gave a damn about the robots. AC is not a movie that I will watch again.

MemberNeomorphDec-22-2017 10:20 PMyea I kinda found the first response a bit strange lol surely sarcasm at its best. visually, AC was great. I loved the settings and the design of the monsters. characters and movie arc though? the film was just awful. but people are entitled to their opinions. theres another thread where its in the top 10 best so each to their own. also depends what source their using to create the list. money and box office or just personal taste

MemberTrilobiteDec-22-2017 10:53 PMAfter re watching the Quadrilogy, the prequels seem really off somehow. Alien started it it all on is own terms and the others built on it in their own ways. The prequels are good in their own ways but feel weird to watch as a whole. As much as I love the prequel idea, it feels like it is diluting the gritty mystique of Alien. I feel torn. I want to see closure, but I am also fine if the franchise goes elsewhere and leaving Alien with some mystery.
Worst movie of 2017? No. AC is a good movie by itself.

MemberNeomorphDec-22-2017 11:02 PMdk I honestly believe there is no right Ridley Scott should keep on using the Alien name for something that has anything to do with it. All because he just cannot handle the xenomorph in a proper way. Alien Covenant is not a proper Alien movie so he cannot blame the alien for its failure.

MemberTrilobiteDec-22-2017 11:25 PMjoylitt I would like to see RS poop or get off the pot. I can understand and agree that the creature is no longer scary. We all know about the xeno. The story could continue with the xeno in the background and have actual character development- you know- something viewers can relate to and share with the fear? The potential for greatness is there. I love the David/Walter possibilities as well as the WY story, but I would like to see it get back to basics and have some real connection to Alien before going into different directions.
I can agree about using the Alien name. I look forward to the next movie but maybe it should be called The Chronicles of David at this point.

MemberNeomorphDec-23-2017 12:00 AMI agree, it seems like RS has come up with an idea to explore AI and is simply using the alien franchise to explore it. imo it will only hurt the franchise. and we thought only the avp movies could do that

MemberDeaconDec-23-2017 12:39 AMI have to agree with them... but the Worst Movie? I have not watched the Video, but Alien Covenant was a massive Disappointment and a Complete Miss-use of the Material as far as what could have been and to a degree YES it was a Cash Grab... Then again i can say the same for SW Ep 8 its disappointment to me follows similar path to AC, but The Last Jedi is making $$$$$
They have written themselves into a corner now... but i have a few ideas how they can get out of this and please the majority of the fans... maybe i need to work on my Alien Covenant Sequel and finish it off, which i am considering calling Alien: Ascension i need to also find what i have not lost regarding my Prometheus Re-write and my Prometheus 2 and Finish/Redo them and post them for you guys.

Indeed i think better Characters is a must, then which Alien movies had this? The original 3 i would say, and i think it went down hill after that, inc the AVP Cross Overs.
The Problem we have now going forwards is how do you have Characters you can attach with make a connection, the only way is to present Characters mainly 3-5 to be done very well and give them a sense of Great Jeopardy and they must then carry on to another movie after....
The Ending of AC has caused a Problem to this... as if Daniels did not find out Walter was David, then David could Charade as Walter for the next movie and she could set up her Colony before in some way... she then finds out that Walter is DAVID, this allow them to carry on with Daniels and Tennessee and build up their Characters for the first act of the next movie, reveal David in the 2nd act or 3rd if we go back to back sequels.
But its hard now...

MemberChestbursterDec-23-2017 1:04 AMThe third movie and you still introduce new characters and be well written? By this time you should have had the protagonist and an antagonist to make something coherent. Shaw is dead, Ripley-lite(Daniels) is good as dead, so what now? Were they thinking that AC would be so successful to justify 2 sequels? This should have never been prequels and not trilogies. Tell a coherent story, split it two if you have to.
Regarding the list, AC was on the 10th place, so not the worst.

MemberDeaconDec-23-2017 6:59 AMIndeed we have to look at all the Pieces of the Puzzle or Chess Pieces being moved into place, Alien Covenant ended with David nearly Perfecting his Creation, off to what we can assume Origae-6 with Thousands of Colonist, which leaves us to Alien requiring David to produce or the Engineers produce Thousands of Eggs from Davids Creation and then David obtains a Engineer Ship, or the Engineers control the ship that this cargo will become part of and then this ship has to head towards LV-223.
To try and cover this in ONE movie is not going to leave room for Characters at all, not to be built up well, and so it would need TWO movies so that the end of the next one sets up the pieces to bring in a Engineer Ship, and the next movie and connecting one has to take place on LV-223.
So again the main route this is taking will just be about PLOT Devices, where really only David plays central part and everything else becomes just Plot Devices.

MemberDeaconDec-23-2017 7:10 AMThe only way forwards i could see Disney taking this and looking at what people complained about in AC.
Would simply to have Origae-6 being shown as a Colony Set up and everything going well, until something goes wrong... so we have either the last few survivors holding up against David... or have little or no survivors but either way we get to see a incoming Ship that ends up discovering no one is home and investigate and hell breaks loose..
But this would be just a rehash of Aliens again, but this is Disney and i think they could go the aftermath route, and so make a movie that set after what ever the sequel to Alien Covenant would have been, by-passing those events. Leaving the Aftermath.
Then introduce Engineers, and at the end we need to set up another Movie or inc in the next one where a Human Ship or Engineers are off to LV-223 to put a stop to that place.
I think however, we need to only by-pass a bit of time, and actually arrive at the Colony being set up and everything goes fine until someone finds out what really happened to Daniels and Tennessee then discover the Horror that Walter is not Walter, seeing Humans then rebel, David could then introduce his Xenomorphs as a Punishment to try and keep the Humans in line... which puts them in Jeopardy, i would have it end where a Human Ship comes in and takes care of Davids Xenomorphs, the Surviving Colonist feel they are rescued... but then reveal actually the incoming ship is here for one reason... it wants Davids Creation.
Then we need to introduce the Engineers into the 3rd act or end of the movie to set up the next one.
This is what i would do... and i am starting to work on a story to cover this, that opens up by showing us Davids Plans/Psyche and showing how he gains himself a New Body so he can then complete his Elaborate Plans to Charade as Walter, and cover up what actually happened to the Covenant.

Alien Covenant IS NOT in top ten worst movies. That's impossible. Calm down. And enjoy the Christmas.
