MemberOvomorphSep-20-2017 5:30 PMCovenant started out really good, they should have stuck more with the struggles with the white aliens and the crew which I think were really well done, and not focus so much on David, in fact they could have even don good with out him at all, but what I really hated was, it look like they are going with the idea of David actually creating them, and that would fuck up the whole series, it would take away the mystique of the aliens which is what makes thees so good in the first place. If that's the way they will do it, I won't watch any other of thees they make.
It doesn't even make since. The Aliens(xenomorphs and they are calling them now) had already existed thousands of years before there was even a such thing as David as shown on Alien vs. Predator.

MemberPraetorianSep-20-2017 6:15 PMIn fairness, David bio-engineered his own variant of the Xenomorph from existing Engineer technology. He sort of reverse-engineered the black pathogen as he saw fit.
Did he create the classic Xenomorph as we know it? Possibly; and I agree that would be a bit of a disappointment.
But he did not create the Black Pathogen that causes the 'Morph mutations, and there are endless ancient evil possibilities in that regard. Who knows what the Engineers have created and are lurking out there somewhere. Who knows what else the Mutagen is capable of. For example - We know the Engineers knew of the Deacon from the mural in Prometheus. We only ever saw the juvenile.......
During David's genetic tinkering he annihilated an entire city of Engineer-folk. Ridley Scott has already announced they will return in the next film, and you can bet they will return with vengeance.
We have yet to see the Engineers on a warpath - they have been mostly peaceful up until now.
We know from Alien onwards, that man and the Xenomorph appear to be the only aggressive lifeforms out there in space.
So it is my guess that Awakening will be a battle of the species, to highlight why both humanity and the xenomorph (that are spawned from us) are the best fit survivor.

MemberChestbursterSep-20-2017 6:52 PMI'm with you on this one @Fatheredcat, Alien Covenant, although a good film overall and in itself imo, figuratively took a huge dump on the mysterious (not anymore) origin of the xenomorph the same way Prometheus took a huge dump on the space jockey, by similarly reducing the mystery and alien factor on the humongous pilot by turning him into a suit containing a human-like creature.
It all relates/connects back to earth regardless of which species came first in this regard.

MemberPraetorianSep-20-2017 7:11 PMSpeaking for my take on things, and in support of IRaptus, David basically tooled-up a 'knock-off', a Xenomorph
NOT an Alien.
No, I don't care what folks call them, to me it will always and ever will be The Alien.
Xenomorph is too....Identified, in feeling. Once you Name your fear, it loses it's power.
Also, name of the franchise is ALIEN, and not 'Xenomorph', which really sounds just kinda silly, really. Like a kitten sneeze. :)

MemberPraetorianSep-20-2017 7:16 PMBlackwinter-witch thank you. Half of my post disappeared with the rest of my Pro-Ridley points lol. I have edited them back in.
I guess the bottom line is; don't judge the David creator angle just yet, lets wait and see what revelations arise in Awakening :)

MemberPraetorianSep-20-2017 7:29 PMYour welcome. :)
One of the most telling things in this controversy is one of R. Scott's comments that the ships on LV-223 are 'A few centuries newer', which does give us a reasonable date (as those ships were at least a couple millenia old) that flat-out kills the idea of David having created The Alien (as encountered by Nostromo).
Any way you slice it, the Derelict is too old for it to be connected to David's plots and planning except via Time-Travel.
Speaking of The Alien, I am looking forward to the audience meeting my interpretation.
ALIEN: Manticore serves as a 'Teaser' regarding them.
The upcoming story ALIEN: LV-426 is the proper buffet where they get to strut.

MemberPraetorianSep-20-2017 8:06 PMBlackwinter-witch ohhhh a sequel already in the works?! May I ask, does Manticore involve the Neomorphs at all?
yep I agree 100%, David created an Alien, not THE Alien.

MemberPraetorianSep-20-2017 9:50 PMALIEN: Manticore has a direct sequel in ALIEN: Manticore 'Paradise', and yes, heh there'll be cute little neomorphs scampering around.
So cute as babies, then they grow up, bite heads off people...
ALIEN: LV-426 is an Indirect follow-up, as it's set five years after the events of ALIEN: Manticore. It's my take on doing ALIENS as-per staying true to the original creature from ALIEN.
And if folks think they had a rough time in ALIENS, well, the poor folks in ALIEN: LV-426 have a much worse time of it. :D
BOTH are in the works, and coming along nicely. I'm focussing on the Final Proof Edit of ALIEN: Manticore, but that'll be done pretty quickly. :)

MemberChestbursterSep-21-2017 6:45 AMI'm with IRaptus and Blackwinter-witch in this. Having read several "official" novels beside the A:C novel (all approved by FOX btw) I don't think the crazy robot *yawn* "created" the Xenos. But alas you never know what the old man comes up with next.
Thinking about it I believe they kept it intentionally ambiguous to have a cop out in case the whole thing blows up in their faces. Wich it actually did.

MemberPraetorianSep-21-2017 7:23 AM@Fatheredcat - AVP is not canon.

riggzamortis86
MemberChestbursterSep-21-2017 7:24 AMI don't think the Alien Vs Predator movies can be fully associated with Ridley Scotts movies in terms of cannon. Alien vs Predator movies are just fan fun made movies that can exist in there own universe of continuity. They don't exactly hold up with the original 4 alien movies either.
YOU.....DUMBBELL!

MemberChestbursterSep-21-2017 7:38 AMYou don't need AVP. There are enough hints and leads in the canon suggesting that the morphs are very old or at least older than Fassbender ... errm ... David. ;)

Lawrence of Arabia
MemberChestbursterSep-21-2017 8:27 AMCovenant needed to focus on David since he is the narrative link between these films, the main character. David creating the Xenomorphs makes sense, his goal of the perfect organism. The perfect survivor. It also links all the synthetic subplots throughout the original saga. The Alien is a biomechanical weapon, so of course it would have to be made and that a synthetic would find it compelling. Other than that his process feels like a huge tribute to H.R.Giger with David being him incarnate. I get where you are coming from with the mystique but that's been long gone since Aliens and AvP. There is some solace with the Xenomorphs being the descendant of whatever the Engineers made beforehand (be that the Neomorphs or Deacon) so it wasn't entirely made from scratch since David used there technology but hybridized/perfected it into the titular monster.

MemberFacehuggerSep-21-2017 9:41 AMAs usual, I agree with @Lawrence of Arabia.
To this I would add that just because you don't like the movie, it doesn't mean Ridley "screwed up big time". There's enough mystery remaining of all kinds to have mystique, and to my mind the thought that this remorseless and relentless killing machine could essentially be the result of human fallibility is every bit as intriguing as some unknown history. Am I talking about the Alien or David? I'll leave you to think about that.

MemberOvomorphSep-22-2017 4:50 PMriggzamortis86 You clearly are a young victim of a mothers over praising her son. Your antagonistic remark is uncalled for, it's easy for a coward to hide behind the internet, where I"m from that attitude can bring you a short life. Ridley can do what he wants with a film he makes weather it's good or bad, I don't have to like what he makes or what any one else makes. Grow up! not every one is going to agree with you, your parents should have taught you that.
The movie was well done, the CGI was perfect unlike Alien 3, the white aliens were really good, I think they should have stuck with that, instead just as it's getting intense David shows up which is fine but it didn't go any where else after that until close to the end. I do agree with the rest of you that the door is still open for other things, and it do agree with Blackwinter-witch, naming the aliens does take away their power in a since. I didn't really like the idea of the aliens and life on earht being genetically engineered, but that part wasn't that bad, I could still go with it, and it's old news to me, it was in the comic book back in the late 80s. David to me was just a bad copy of Lore from Star Trek, then you had Walter vs. David,(Lore vs. Data) Cliche.
