MemberNeomorphSep-12-2017 3:15 PM"Infamous sequel" that is something. The only infamous movie that failed to connect to the audience and is at 6.5 on imdb and rated 57% (rotten) on rotten tomatoes is Alien Covenant.
Go do some fluting, Ati

MemberChestbursterSep-12-2017 3:26 PMAliens is perfect and totally plausible :B People are only butthurt with Covenant because it wasn't a pure rehash, they are upset with the origin, or that we didn't get Neil's fanfic so now they are looking for every excuse under the sun.

MemberPraetorianSep-13-2017 4:40 PMJust popping by while taking a break from writing. There's been a lot of ALIEN films on tv lately, ALIENS being one of them of course.
I like ALIENS, but to me it just doesn't have the proper 'feel' of the ALIENverse. I guess it's in how the creatures are treated as kamikaze attackers and it's a matter of record how much I hate the entire mediocre idea of a 'queen' alien.
The saying goes "Unless you can do better, shut-up."
Well, I've started MY version of 'ALIENS' (with a different title of course) and as it's a short story, it'll be coming up to completion fairly soon.
So, yeah, I'll put my work up against Cameron's and let you, the Audience' decide.
But anyone expecting Ripley, Newt, etc. are in for absolute disappointment.
This isn't a revision of Cameron's work, it's an Original Work set about 5 years after the events of ALIEN: Manticore but doesn't involve that ship or crew in any way.

MemberTrilobiteSep-13-2017 5:28 PMBLASPHEMY! You can trash A3, AR and Prometheus to your heart's content, but not Alien and Aliens!
LOL- kidding! I think we need to be able to sit back and laugh at the ribbing of our sacred cows! Upvoted.

MemberPraetorianSep-13-2017 5:53 PM NO worries!! I can also find picking-points with ALIEN also. :D
ALIENS was well-done, and it's a good movie, I will readily admit that. It had some interesting and colorful characters, which unfortunately got killed off, but there were many 'good deaths'.
Also, it put Bill Paxton on the 'Map', and he will always be missed.

MemberTrilobiteSep-13-2017 5:59 PMOK Ati- out with it. Bring on everything wrong with Alien and Alien 3 if they exist. This is pretty entertaining.

MemberTrilobiteSep-13-2017 6:25 PMBlackwinter-witch It might be a cheap shot at Alien, but I remember when Ripley went in to talk with MUTHUR, the door made an obvious noise opening and shutting- she was obviously alone. Next, Ash appeared to explain things but we did not hear the door open.

Okay, you asked for it. ALIEN 3, well too easy, really.
ALIEN, starting with the facehugger:
1; WHY would any critter NEED the ability to secrete acid to burn through something like a faceplate?
(keep in mind I am operating solely off what the movie itself provides as info).
2; Okay, we have scans that show the ovipositor tube, but NO one ever bothered to keep an eye on Kane via x-rays and such?? There's NO valid reason for them missing the implantation and presence of the immature chestburster inside Kane.
3; Special Order 937 is insane. NO way in hell is anyone going to ask/force a crew of unqualified people to acquire and then give supportive care to some extraterrestrial critter which would (in most cases) be a biological Unknown and thus require skilled, intelligent and experienced (insofar as that goes) handling to try to keep it alive.
Especially if it's Intelligent, as they thought they'd be dealing with due to an artificial signal.
You grab some Intelligent critter from a crash site, you damned well better be prepared to deal with Diplomatic Issues and a whole ream of other things. Some crashed and stranded alien being is from a Civilization, right? And if that's a First Contact situation, then Tug jockeys are NOT the right people for the job.
4; Flamethrowers...aboard a starship, a sealed environment filled with assorted flammable items and loaded with all manner of pressurized gas supply lines in walls and ceilings. Also, why the hell would you have 'The basic models' in storage aboard a ship anyways???
5; Kane not remarking on the stuff dripping off the eggs UPWARDS. I dunno about you, but I'd comment about seeing something that cool and odd.
6; Statistically, you present a person with something weird, in an unsettling environment, then include wet, pulsing organic tissues...they will back away and leave, NOT stick their face into it.
7; Jones being allowed free run aboard ship. Looking around that ship there's a LOT of ways a cat could get hurt, suffer some seriously bad falls and such. Would any of you allow your cat to roam such an environment freely? I sure wouldn't.
8; Nostromo being allowed to operate without sufficient emergency escape positions available for ALL members of the crew. Yeah, NO way that ship would have been allowed to fly until that had been addressed and corrected.
9; The disappearing and reappearing 4 'gigantic' spotlights we see at the stern-underside during landing and lift-off.
10: Nostromo's landing gear, won't fit inside the hull or engine nacelles.
Also a ship that big would need more landing feet/struts to properly distribute it's weight. Look at the ship relative to the landing gear.

MemberTrilobiteSep-13-2017 6:59 PMBlackwinter-witch All great points. I like all the movies except Prometheus. The point is that we can find faults with just about anything if we want to. I actually enjoy seeing someone intelligently ripping on something I like. It reminds me that is just a story.
