Advocating for a Director's Cut(Spoilers)

After watching the deleted/extended scenes, I saw no fat to trim content wise. A case in point that would have helped explain Oram's strangely peering into the facehugger egg could be explained with a deleted scene. As he followed David down the stairs to the eggs, David had Oram smell something described as Lavendar possibly. The point is that could have been a drug that lulled Oram into letting the facehugger do its thing.

The other scenes are good too and strengthen the dynamics of Walter, Daniels and Oram.

I think that's exactly the conclusion people would have drawn had they left that scene in.

I would have kept nearly every one of those scenes in the movie. None of them were necessary, but they help flesh out the characters a bit more. That flare-down-the-hanger-bay scene really added to the sense of wonder and mystery about the city too.

Kethol Yes, that scene in particular reminded of the Carpenter version of The Thing in some ways.

even just having filler would have helped it feel like it was'nt just showing a bunch of highlights from the event but the whole story. in the extended opening scene with david and weyland, there is some great foreshadowing, all of the filler scenes would make the horror scarier because there would be more time inbetween them, the breif scen on earth in the flashback fleshes out daniells chaector so much and also builds the importance of the cabin on the lake. I would say definatly make a directors cut.

in addition the the deleted scenes, he should add some of the she won't go quietly footage. mostly when she is playingg poker, the 4 meters above you segmant and her frantickly reloading the ammo. this could be cut together with the lunar audi quatro footage so it would look like the rover is being used when they are hunting down the xenomorph.

I would also have the advent video as a post credit scene, the last supper clip be added and have the crossing be part of the flashback scene when david bombs the engineers. all of the deleted and extended scenes would be included.

in terms of subtractions, I think that they should cut out the shots were ferris slips in the blood. it feels almost slapstick. another shot that i think should be removed is the neomorph entering the temple right before it decapitates that person. it shows you exactly what is going to happen before hand and makes it less scary.

the final directors cut that I just mentioned would be about 2 hours and 25 minutes and way more satisfying in my opinion.

one mabye that i had was having the meet walter footage right after the david scene with weyaland to show the contrast between the two. this might make the pacing at the begining to slow because people would want the story to begin.

one other really quick  thing I might add is the shot were the alien is jumping of the walls in the red light. They actually showed  that exact shot in the film exept for in xenomorph POV form. would be alot cooler if we had the one not POV shot.

Indeed Timmy a lot of that stuff would have been nice..

But sometimes as far as the deleted scenes, they are cut down simply to shrink a movie to a suitable running time at the box office...  I cant see how adding some of them would have made a big difference though.

Also there are other extended scenes shot that we have not seen yet and are not included in even the deleted scenes as some of them are cut down versions of the full scenes.

But we had the same thing with Prometheus... we as of yet have not seen all the full uncut scenes from that movie too.

I agree with everything Timmy wrote. Excellent idea!

Yes. Never say never. I mean, RS was tinkering with Blade Runner for decades, not to mention the very late arrival of the Alien Director's Cut.

I would welcome a director's cut, BUT I honestly thought that none of those scenese were really needed. I think finding a place for the Daniels/Jacob flashback, putting the whole, "The Crossing," prologue in David's flashback, the flare in the hangar, and (if it had been completed) the Neomorph v. Xenomorph deal when the remaining few people escaped the planet could all end up being good additions. Still though, I don't really know how much better the experience would actually be with those additions.

Yeah while none of them are needed per se, they do nothing but enhance the film, imo. I can't really say I agree with Ridley's "bare minimum" philosophy of editing, as much as I admire the man. Even just somehow integrating "The Crossing" and "Advent" into the narrative of the film would enhance Covenant greatly. As for other scenes, I would also include the Neomorphs stalking the crew through the woods following David, as this shows that they aren't just mindless beasts, and I would have included the scene where the Neomorph goes after the Xeno, as this shows WHY the Xeno is superior. I also think it would've been cool if David had subjugated an Engineer and impregnated him with a Deacon, which he then imprisoned and unleashed on the crew before the Xeno shenanigans, Because the Deacon is basically an Engineer Neomorph (yes it is, Big Dave, I thought I explained this pretty logically and thoroughly XD)

Oh well, one can dream, I suppose. I think Ridley needs to understand that we don't mind sitting in those seats for 2 and a half hours.
