MemberChestbursterAug-11-2017 10:16 AMYou know how everyone is complaining about prometheous and covenant for having stupid people who make stupid decisions? well people are going way to hard on them and they never noticed any of these dumb decisions from alien and aliens. the 2 crticly aclaimed ones.
Alien:
dallas breaks quarantine to let kane in with a face hugger on him.
the crew goes to the planet even before they have decoded the message that they got from it.
dallas and ash wear no protective headgear while doing an autopsy of an alien corpse.
when they go into the room were kane is and the face hugger is gone they leave the doar open so if it were still alive, it could escape onto the ship.
when kane just suddenly feels better after the facehugging they dont do any phisical examination.
they all risk there lifes time and time again to to catch jonsey the cat.
Aliens:
they dont just send robots to investigate lv 426.
know one listens to ripley. the only one who has ever seen and delt with them.
they all fire there guns inside the nucular reactor.
they forget to check that the celings are blocked when they barricade the room.
burk trys to escape from the xenomorphs by running into the hallways even thought there are xenomorphs in them and they are sealed off.
ripley spends 5 minutes torching all of the alien eggs agrovating the queen when thw whole place was going to get nuked anyway.
ripley thinks that her arm can withstand the entire vacuum of space when she drops the queen out into space.
these were the dumb desitions that I saw. do you guys have anymore and do you agree with me that people are judging the prequels to harshly? let me know in the comments

MemberFacehuggerAug-11-2017 10:23 AMThe whole concept of a prison colony without ANY real weapons whatsoever is pretty dumb to me.

Timmy the ultramorph
MemberChestbursterAug-11-2017 10:42 AMyeah. that also. they did it cuz sigorny weaver was pro gun control and didn't want any weapons in the film.

MemberChestbursterAug-11-2017 11:04 AMThere are lots of dumb things the characters do in ALL the movies. I get your point, but I think you need to check your facts a bit. Such as -
Alien:
dallas breaks quarantine to let kane in with a face hugger on him.
Wrong. Dallas did not break the quarantine, Ash did. And he had a very good reason to do so.
dallas and ash wear no protective headgear while doing an autopsy of an alien corpse.
Wrong. Dallas and Ash both wore protective face masks, and Dallas did not take his off until Ash told him it was safe to do so.
when they go into the room were kane is and the face hugger is gone they leave the doar open so if it were still alive, it could escape onto the ship.
Wrong. Watch again. They close the door.
when kane just suddenly feels better after the facehugging they dont do any phisical examination.
How do you know that? Ash was with him when he woke up, and we did not see that scene. Ash called the Dallas in after that. Plus, even if we had seen Ash exam Kane, he would have LIED to the crew about it, for obvious reasons.
they all risk there lifes time and time again to to catch jonsey the cat.
The chest burster was smaller than the cat. When they were searching for Jones they had no idea it had gown larger than human size in a matter of hours, so why would they think their lives were in danger?

Some have said that there is no conspiracy in Alien; that the Nostromo just happened to pick up the signal and ash, special order 937 and being bound by contract to investigate signs of intelligent life were just elements in place should a ship happen across a signal.
Yet, the Nostromo left Earth to go to Thedus, picked up the four-tower refinery, and was en-route home to Earth when it picked up the signal. Surely the Nostromo used the same flight path there and back, so why didn't it pick up the signal on its way to Thedus?
or...
Dallas should never have gone on the expedition to the derelict and should not have gone into the ducts; he was the Captain, and his responsibility is to command the crew and to the ship. Lambert also should not have gone on the expedition, she was the only one qualified to fly the Nostromo.
or...
In the space Jockey scene fans infer the SJ to be around 25 feet tall in the opening shot, and around 12 feet in the subsequent shots. Some fans have argued the Engineers should have been 25 feet tall. The average person (rounding up) is six feet, thus these fans wanted an engineer four times taller than the cast.
or...
Why didn't MU-TH-UR just wake up Ash? He and MU-TH-UR could have piloted the Nostromo to the moons surface, pick up as many eggs as he wanted, and return the Nostromo; using the crew as hosts.
or...
The Nostromo, under a commercial contract with Weyland-Yutani was allowed to leave Earth with a crew of 7 and only one Narcissus shuttle with only one hypersleep pod.
or...
That Ridley originally intended for the Alien to kill Ripley, and mimic her voice in a signal back to Earth.
or...
In Alien the Alien cocoons Brett and Dallas, and kills Parker and Lambert hides on Narcissus to die. Yet in Aliens they outflank the marines, turn off the power, set up an ambush, communicates with their Queen, who then operates an elevator. Yet Ridley-fans claim Cameron dumbed the creature down.
or...
After failing to acquire the Alien in 2122, Weyland-Yutani waited until around 2159 AKA 37 years before setting up a colony there.
or...
According to Alien LV-426 is tiny, with a radius of 1,200km, which is smaller than our moon. Yet despite being there for twenty years with the means to traverse the surface the colonists never happened across the Derelict.

AdminPraetorianAug-11-2017 11:40 AMExactly. I've mentioned this exact thing before, people would go nuts if Alien was released today, with all the stupid stuff the crew did. Like Gavin says, it's a rose tinted spectacles type thing.

MemberXenomorphAug-11-2017 1:11 PMYeah...There are 2 scenes in Alien where I have to turn my head, or it ruins my watching! (Kane's chestburst scene and Ash's headless scene)
If I was George Lucas, I'd redo/CGI them! lol!

MemberChestbursterAug-11-2017 8:54 PMthere was no way of knowing that there would be alien spores on the planet. its just that sinse there were, people judge it as stupid. if they had not gotten infected nobody would be complaining.

Robots are more expensive than humans.
They think she's crazy.

Timmy the ultramorph
MemberChestbursterAug-12-2017 9:33 AMthey are also more effective than humans, and they are not killable. they also follow orders unlike the marines. Also robots do not request to get payed so weyland would actually come up ahead finachially. especially if they already had some witch i am sure they do.

MemberChestbursterAug-12-2017 11:56 AMNot killable? They sure 'killed' Ash. Bishop was nearly destroyed too, and Ripley finished him off in Alien 3.

MemberFacehuggerAug-12-2017 10:05 PM@Kethol: Dallas, the ship's captain, most certainly did break quarantine protocol. He brought Kane back and demanded that Ash "just open the goddamn door". It is, however, believable. People are not robots.
Nit-picking is easy to do, and in the internet age the world is full of armchair critics. It was an easier ride in 1979.

Imo that's more an example of a dumb script than of a smarter alien.
"He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"

MemberNeomorphAug-13-2017 3:54 AMif u mix both alien and aliens together u see completely different circumstances. in alien it was a lone xeno acting on its sole instinct where as in aliens it was a collective hive mind guided by a higher, seemingly more intelligent matriarch. I didn't go for the xeno cutting off the power though as Hudson states 'their animals' but is this just a case of us humans AGAIN arrogantly believing wer the be all and end all, the only sentient species capable of thought in the universe and detaching ourselves from the fact that we are just animals aswell?

MemberChestbursterAug-13-2017 9:52 AMThe franchise is full of unfortunate souls that make unlucky decisions but it's surprising that now it's a point of contention. I feel like it's cuz we aren't getting Neil's fanfic and that side of the fanbase was looking for any perceived faults against Covenant.
"The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts."

ali81
MemberNeomorphAug-13-2017 9:59 AMwithout these unfortunately silly decisions then most of these movies wouldnt happen. I don't remember them not listening to ripley with exception of Gorman who had obviously gone into shock at the time. even she didn't know what the hive was when they encountered it and when she suggested they nuke the sight no one disagreed.

Barf The Mog
MemberFacehuggerAug-13-2017 10:39 AMStupidity is part of the human condition, sadly.
The Xeno is far superior to us, fictionally speaking.
I wish some Xenos would head over to Charlottesville and annihilate those white supremacist fucktards!

Watch the movie again. Ripley was senior officer while Dallas was off ship, and she specifically refused to let Dallas, Kane, and Lambert inside. Dallas could request to be let inside all he wanted, but he never broke any quarantine. He did not and could not open the inner airlock door.
It was ASH who broke the quarantine by opening the door. Did you forget that there is even a scene where Ripley confronted him about this?

ali81
MemberNeomorphAug-13-2017 11:34 AMwhther asked or not by dallas, ash is the one who breaks the quarantine law as his motives required kane on board
