David was a prototype and a special piece of technology reserved for Peter Weyland unlike what was distributed mass-market. The David 8 who traveled to LV-223 was more like Walter in his physical characteristics than the previous David models.
Who knows what capabilities the David 8 had built in being the personal robot answering to Peter Weyland? Peter Weyland just confirmed that his David was more advanced than the distributed David 8 models. And David 8 showed himself quite capable in Alien: Covenant.

MemberFacehuggerJun-17-2017 7:55 PMMight clues for Weyland's true plans/ intent be found in the mythological history of Volund/ Wayland the Smith?

MemberPraetorianJun-17-2017 9:23 PMNathan Adler, thank you for the potential clue above. I'll have to look at that.
I saw your other question regarding the mission of Weyland Industries too. On (http://www.projectprometheus.com/crew/) you get a detailed mission plan and it's inspiration from Peter Weyland.
If there was a "Mission Statement" for Weyland Industries (and eventually Weyland-Yutani Corporation in 2099), then I believe it would be Special Order 937. All available resources are immediately dispatched to potentially capture a specimen.

MemberPraetorianJun-18-2017 5:28 AMMaybe I should tool-up a Corporate Report about the Chimerans in my works.
They WERE meant to be marketed to Military, Elite Personal Security and such, and such plans went ahead, made the company (NOT W-Y) quite a reputation and significant earnings...until the Bloodless Rebellion.
It may also be that from studying Chimeran biology and physiology that W-Y was able to mechanically duplicate how Chimerans regenerate...

I would very much like to read this :)

MemberPraetorianJun-18-2017 8:03 PMYou are most welcome IRaptus. I love the direction the series is going and how Ridley Scott jumps back decades in Alien: Covenant to show the beginning of current events.

MemberPraetorianJun-18-2017 10:35 PMI've been roughing-out things for a Company Report as a 'background' piece, and I've slotted it as 3rd now. :D
Meaning:
ALIEN: Manticore is Priority (cause it's the MAIN work)
ALIEN: Silent Screams 'Origins' is 2nd as it's something I've been meaning to do for a LONG time and is going well.
The Company Report is 3rd, but Origins is a very short-story, thus won't take much time.

MemberFacehuggerJun-19-2017 1:04 AM@Ingeniero: You're welcome re: the clue about Wayland the Smith. With this term, Scott's use of the term Prometheus to analogise the punishment/ birth of the chestburster, why do you think he had Ripley's escape pod dubbed the Narcissus?
If Weyland's mission is SO937, did this become so only after David/ Walter reported back to the company with regard to discovery of the "perfect species" or given the Engineers script acknowledges Weyland was already way ahead of Shaw and Holloway's work, did the company know of the Engineers experiments/ creation going back much earlier than the discovery on LV-223?

MemberPraetorianJun-19-2017 10:40 AMThat is such an excellent point with the name of the escape pod Nathan Adler.
Regarding the special order, see below.
"Course Correction
"The tragic loss of our founder and his heir marked the end of our Company's first epoch-a golden era for humanity, but only the beginning for the Company and the search for definitive answers.
Beginning in 2095, barely a year after Dr. Shaw's final declassified transmission, the special directive 900 sequence was programmed into every Company ship-an authorization to wake the crew to investigate any transmission of unknown or seemingly intelligent origin. The clause that requires Company or Company-contracted employees to investigate any such transmissions became standard in 2101."

MemberFacehuggerJun-20-2017 12:37 AM@Ingeniero: So any thoughts how the Narcissus legend might tie into the first film?
Ingeniero
MemberPraetorianAug-07-2017 1:29 PMI do believe that the Narcissus name of the escape pod ties into the overall theme of vanity Nathan Adler.
In regards to vanity, the entire history of Peter Weyland and his evolving galactic corporation is a rebellion against mortal limits. In the legend, Narcissus was in love with himself after seeing his reflection and lost all hope when he realized that the affection would never be returned.
Peter Weyland set in motion the tools to rebel against mortal limits and the technology he cultivated (Weyland Industries) continued on when his plans went against him. And brought the alien back from being extinguished in space in the escape ship.
The significance of the escape ship named Narcissus was a reflection of humanity's efforts to push past mortal limits and the consequences of trying to do so when finally reaching something that can wipe out everything humanity has built.
