Neomorph origins clarification (spoilers)

I saw AC this evening, but couldn't make sense of the neomorph origin.  Daniels asks David if he created the neomorphs.  David seems to say that he created the neomorphs using insects.  I recall seeing him show a mosquito and discussing parasites, but how did his engineered neomorphs become embedded in the spores located throughout the planet?

I took it that the neomorphs we see - since they were hosted in humans - are a new creation that hasn't been seen on the planet before, and that the experiments we see in David's lab are either from mutated Engineers, Shaw, and/or whatever other animal life existed on the planet.

It doesn't seem entirely clear where the goo pods came from, though my assumption is that they were mutated animal eggs and not necessarily part of David's experiments.  Though, what could go against this assumption is that David appears to recognize the neomorphy when it comes to his abode.  Then again, he might just be appreciating the creature the goo created naturally.

So then, the xenomorph was created by:

native parasitic wasps + black goo + Shaw? = eggs & facehugger.  Facehugger + human = xenomorph.

On the other hand:

black goo + native plant life = spore pods.  Spores + human = neomorph.

Seems like two distinct combinations of elements that produce a similar creature (neomorph vs. xenomorph).  David was able to create something very close to the Neomorph, based on the white taxidermy specimens found in his lab.  Were these specimens the result of spores + engineers?  How else would David have them?

no if you pay attention to his workshop, there are mutated creatures resembling humanoids, many of them smaller....he probably acquired these through direct experimentation with Shaw....these are the only humanoid mutations we see....that is until the covenant arrives.

The spores were probably animal eggs of some sort before the black goo mutagen got t them. Also did you notice that they appeared only where water was, the ship leaking traces of the black goo out after it crashed probably hitting the running water that cascades down the mountain side. The spores that got the guy with the mouth buster was at the source of the water, and the back buster guy got infected by spores that were at the base or at a lower elevation from where the water source and juggernaut were. If you notice these spores (which i feel strongly were eggs of some sort before being mutated).......anyway these eggs turned into spores act exactly like the larger eggs that contain face huggers, just on a smaller scale. They both react when  life forms get to close, instead of face huggers the spores contain the whispy airborne spores that hunt out the nearby life form, the facehuggers and these spore things both cause anylife form to become "pregnant" with a form of mutated life form.

I think these egg spore producing things were naturally occurring after the juggernaut crash and black goo leakage and not a direct part of David's experimentation. I feel most of that involved Shaw, her eggs, and sexual organs. Much of the cross breeding he performed was done with small mutated creatures that he probably trapped in the wild, but the collection of mutated humanoid forms in the workshop were directly due to his evil acts upon Shaw and her body.

Speaking of Shaw, I really wished they'd taken literally a minute to even roughly describe exactly how she was involved in David's experimentation.  We see the drawings, which is basically a tease, because there is not much that can be gleaned from that.

I was surprised by how little emotionally I was affected by the "birth" scenes movie given how they were originally described.  And I think a bit of gruesome explanation/exposition of what happened to Shaw would have really added to the movie.  I was actually more effected by the experimentation on the Ripley clones in that horrible Alien: Resurrection than seeing Shaw on the table.  She is obviously a huge link in the creation of the xenomorphs, and Covenant almost does nothing with her.  I said it in another post, but it's almost like as if they purposefully tried as hard as they to have as few references to the events of Prometheus as they could get away with for a movie that's supposed to be a sequel.  Hell, even the transmission in the Juggernaut isn't written to show her face.

@Waltermorph:  Totally with you 100% that we needed to see more of Shaw.  She was victimized in the first film, and again in the second.  I think the viewing audience was rooting for her to "win" in this film.  Instead, we're left unfulfilled and disappointed.

Yeah, I liked/loved Shaw for her new take on the series.

But She was replaced by Daniels (Who is really Ripley MK 2) and utterly ignored.

That spore nonsense is weird. It should just dissolve human or alien flesh or maybe mutate it. But creating a parasite inside of a host dont makes sense in this regard.

I don't see an issue with the spore thing

There's insects on earth that do something similar

It's disturbing on so many levels lol.

Agreed, there are some crazy critters on Earth who do things that are beyonf bizarre so i have no problem with the spore and creating a life form within a host....as i mentioned above its no different than the Egg and facehugger, its just a smaller scale...so if people accept the facehugger they should accept the spores doing the same. Its just a smaller biological organic critter infecting another organic organism...same thing
