Name of movie?

Ok so this has been bothering me for years. There was a movie I watched a long time ago when I was a kid. It starts off with a family on a road trip and then suddenly a beam of light hits them and they're abducted. The emperor wants the mans wife for himself and the man ends up stranded on the alien planet. He joins up with the savage natives to fight the emperor and save his family. There's also an awesome scene where he joins the natives for a meal and it all really gross/weird looking stuff.

Does anyone know what this movie is called?

Or did I just dream up this crazy movie?
