MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 8:50 AMim in the process of getting the complete additional material on the extended universe with the books and comics. which of these do u think r the best read and which concepts, such as alien king, royal jelly, red xeno hive etc r the best and which would u like to see in a movie? I am reading river of pain right now and love the parts where mamma and papa Jorden go into the derelict and find the long since dead xenos and engineers, embroiled in an obvious battle

I would be so entertained if they grabbed ideas of this.

MemberFacehuggerJan-27-2017 2:29 PMYes ali
I trully think the crestion of the king design will have a purpose and it was a teasing for fans.
I could see blomkamp tackle it for a5. Fusing his concepts.
I would love it to close ripley saga.

MemberXenomorphJan-27-2017 2:44 PMOf the old comics, the original three story arc of Book 1, Book 2 and Earth War were pretty sweet (though Earth War fell away rather badly). Best to be read with Hicks and Newt as the protagonists as an alternate version of Alien3 and beyond. The rewrite changing the names didn't really work - especially in Earth War.
Labyrinth and the original AvP series are also well worth a look. They all are in varying degrees.

MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 2:51 PMYour talking where Hicks was changed to Wilkes and Newt was changed to Billie correct? If Earth war is the same thing as Female War than yeah that was my least favorite. The other two were quite good though.

MemberXenomorphJan-27-2017 2:58 PMYeah. Book 1 became Outbreak (or Earth Hive in novel form), Book 2 became Nightmare Asylum and Earth War became Female War (which was a better title). Female War got edited due to some character relationships which I won't spoil, no longer being relevant.

MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 2:58 PMjust finished river of pain. good read and there r survivors from the colony so maybe another book may come out to follow them

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 3:02 PMI've read the comic that earth hive was based on but no longer have it.I'll try and read them.I believe they're on the site i've found. Thanks S.M.

ali81
MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 3:07 PMriver of pain is the last one, set prior to burke telling ripley theyv lost contact with the colony and from the point mr jorden gets facehugged. the first 2 r directly linked. I prefer the first 2 as it gets into the action fairley quickly, river of pain takes a while but its depictions of the derelict r fascinating and really gets the imagination going about what happened

MemberXenomorphJan-27-2017 3:15 PMAs much as I didn't like a marine contingent being at Hadley (should've had Colonial Marshalls instead) and some continuity gaffs, River of Pain was my favourite of those three books. Golden managed to make the character relationships relevant to the plot instead of just being arbitrary.
Unfortunately it was a missed opportunity in that it didn't touch on the 'last stand', how Newt survived, or the backstory of the colonist they found in the hive.

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 3:17 PMExcellent I'll try to read them when i can.

MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 3:19 PMyeah I was a bit disappointed it didn't go into newts survival a bit more. well it didn't at all really. at least gave us an insight into going for food and water and how she avoided detection. I think though here comment 'they mostly come at night' pretty much gives it away

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 3:27 PMAs you may know there is a comic series about called Newt's Story.I don't know if they're canon though.I haven't read those either.

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 3:38 PMI think they are.I found them online as well and intend on reading them.

S.M
MemberXenomorphJan-27-2017 3:41 PMRiver of Pain sourced some bits and pieces from Newt's Tale, but that too didn't go into any real detail on Newt's time on her own.

ali81
MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 3:42 PMwhich site do u use to read these comics online? I know where to find scripts but struggle with comics though it is a works computer and many sites r blocked even if they have a slight connection to games

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 3:47 PMIt called www.readcomicbooksonline.com.I hope it works. They have a lot of Alien comics among other things.I decided to try it out because a lot of people reference them. Also it cost absolutely nothing.

MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 3:53 PMill give it a bash. I like the books and comics and def think they should remain canon. not a huge star wars fan but I was really disappointed when Disney dumped all extended universe as canon. I know theres contradictions but theyr comics

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 3:57 PMSo was I.Star Wars had a lot of great comics.

ali81
MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 4:00 PMfind it hugely dissatisfying they said 'nope all that is dumped' and yet theyr probably gna use parts of what people came up with to explain things such as who snoke is. im betting hes a character from the expanded universe. sorry off topic

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 4:10 PMNo problem,it's your thread after all.I haven't read a lot of the new Star Wars stuff yet.

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianJan-27-2017 4:24 PMAlright.Wasn't very concerned with the new stuff any way.I haven't even seen Rogue One.

MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 4:28 PMim in no rush to see it. vader is only in it at the end I believe. would love to see his lair though. id say iv not been as stoked to see a film the way I am about AC in years

ali81
MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 4:35 PMid like there to be a xeno homeworld, much like the comic with the red xeno and see how different hives co-exist

ali81
MemberNeomorphJan-27-2017 4:44 PMtrue, they don't make for very hospitable neighbours. not many street parties in that neighbourhood. still something id love to see on film though. think they went a wee bit too far with the queen mother
