do u believe there is a higher, more advanced race controlling the engineers?

I personally believe this is all about each race coming to a point where they play god and are ultimately destroyed by theyr creations.

this would possibly answer the question, why were the engineers going to destroy us? maybe over the thousands of years since they created life on earth they had realised that theyr creation would evolve and become a threat to them, as they had maybe become a threat to theyr creators, and decided to stop us before that happened????

after all, david is OUR creation and with his experiments, has the potential to wipe out the engineers and ourselves. the engineers, indirectly wiped out by theyr creation as it was us who created david.

the engineers may have been created to serve another species and over millennia have evolved and destroyed theyr creators???

Posts seem to indicate there is a higher power over the Engineers. It is looking to me that David could become a higher power at least for AC. He is already experimenting with the goo, humans and presumably engineers and eventually creatures that are yielded from those experiments.

Here's a brain tickler: The engineers are in thrall to the Xeno Queens. They make us as low level chattel to expand the hives across the galaxy. Even point is to LV-223 to give us eggs to take home until the rebels take over that planet and try to stop the spread of the hive by sending black to our planet, which backfires.

hhhhmmmm interesting but opens up more questions.communication? how do the enigineers know what the queen wants or do they just worship her as the perfect and ancient life form and just assume theyr doing the right thing?

Telepathy. That's been hinted at repeatedly with the Queens in the movies and newer books.

plausible but cross species telepathy?

It's been argued that's what the nightmares are. The new Alien novels deal with it directly, and it was ALL over the dark horse graphic novels, though those aren't really canon as far as I know. the Engineers are supposed to be more advanced so they may have greater mental abilities.

Interesting.

But if the queens (maybe even the drones) are able to plot that far why they never utilize technology in the absence of their "slave race". Apart from cutting powerlines and using elevators that is. Given their hands are similar to ours.

Why not fly the juggernaut/derelict themselves.

Why the warning signal from the derelict? Is the jockey not an engineer, after all? In that regard I'm not convinced the jokey being an engineer anyway.

Eine Theorie die nicht auf Etwas solidem basiert ist für gewöhnlich nur Geschwätz.

MemberFacehuggerJan-06-2017 9:10 AM

The going theory is that Queens are the only sentient ones. Drones are about as smart as dogs, just 10x more aggressively violent. The queen is too big for most technology, and may rule the engineers to deal with technology for her.

The warning may well have been from a rebellious faction of engineers who didn't appreciate being ruled by a race that used them as food and incubators.

I agree in a way whatever killed the engineers in the temple wasntgoo orxeno the pile of bodies indicates revenge a message a warning something is coming bad enough forthe engineers to run from fact you can't run from a viral outbreak but xenos/deacons with aid maybe just a thought

I believe if there is a higher race than the engineers than its the xenomorph. It's been pointed out that the engineers seem to worship them(thats if they turn out to be an ancient race after all).

Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you in heaven for

Interesting ideas...

But i think they are showing us the Xenomorph is a Bio-Weapon created by the Engineers at some point in the past... without me going into what the Source hinted at... which gives a lot of clues...

I will bring up there point that its about Creation, Creator, Rebellion, Punishment and then Sub-Creation and Repeat and that it did not start with the Engineers and does not end with David.

But if we ignore that for a moment then we need to look at the Engineers....  Ridley Scott refereed to them as Fallen Angels which could mean they are a lower caste of some higher caste beings, or being.....   But his comments before that regarding the Sacrificial Scene seemed to set up a Hierarchy as in Ancient Cultures like Native Indians and Mayans and also Egypt.

So we could be looking at

1) As Egyptian Pharaohs were worshiped as Gods, but are really just kings and Human.. But the Pharaohs were still seen as Gods incarnate.... we could seen a similar Hierarchy like this..

2) Or similar but just as the Tribal Elders would be in Native and Mayan Indian Culture... again similar to the Elder Engineers.

But Ridley said he did not want to meet God in the first movie, for the reason for removing the Elders Scene... which could mean its similar to 1 or 2... but then it could be different as below.

3) We go to the Fallen Angel route... which means the Engineers were created by another Race/Being that is God (but not God as we would imagine).   This kind of Hierarchy is also followed by Polytheism  so that there is not ONE God at the Top but a set of Gods... who create a sub-order of Godlike beings... this fits in with the Anunnaki/Igigi and Titans/Olympians.   But we could see its similar to God and Angels if we account for more than one God.

4) Some Race or being who are very dark and sinister and are not as Human looking as Engineers are.

5) Maybe something more like Machines, or a Machine?

6) A very Alien presence beyond what we could imagine..

I think one of these 6 has to be at play....

The other option is something more divine at play a formless all Powerful... Power... Omnipresent but not seen... or even just a Program...  (Remember First was the Word) but then other cultures have similar and others Chaos....

But i dont think Ridley would be going for anything quite like those..

I dont think the Xenomorph are Gods... i think we have been shown they are a Weapon and Creation...

But i think while the Engineers will have been created by someone else.. who may be their Gods....  i think they (Engineers) came across the remains of some other Organism that was used by some other Godlike beings (not Engineers Gods) and this evolved into the Xenomorph that the Engineers could use against their own Gods...

Or maybe there is one Godlike being or Race above the Engineers and this other Organism, and the Engineers are used for a Horrific Purpose...

The Engineers then however manage to re-weaponize this other Organism and Purpose to create their own Bio-Weapon to use against their Creators..?

I would not be surprised if the Star Beast un-used ideas will get used a bit this time.

I don't expect Alien Queens or the hive hierarchy to be present in these movies, they are about Ridley Scott's vision and those elements are from a sequel he had nothing to do with. Besides at this point hive queens are overused and only make alien species seem more vulnerable. Personally I prefer the aliens as formidable individuals.

I believe it's the opposite. Engineers use the black goo to pasivelly populate planets with humans like themselves, that's their motivation. But the black goo is unstable and the smallest mistake can make it go out of control and create varied monsters depending on what species it comes across, like the Hammerpede from infected worms and the Deacon from infected humans. To prevent this, the engineers have a strict lifestyle based on dicipline and self-sacrifice. They drink a small dose of the goo and fight the impulses it causes on them until they collapse and disintegrate resulting in their own dna infecting the local fauna. The reason they decided to exterminate us is because we turned out too violent even with their guidance, prefering to sacrifice others over ourselves, meaning we would missuse the goo if we were to discover it. But something goes wrong and they can't carry it out and eventually we do find them and accidentally create the very things they were trying to prevent.

So, I don't think they have their own gods. That's the horror Prometheus suggests: That we may in fact be alone in the universe. There are only humans and their creations out there. That giant face in that sanctuary represents them, because they see themselves as the supreme beings. But the black goo and its monsters are eternally breathing down their necks...

You cant fill a cup thats already full.

We have vulnerable alien image on our heads wether we want it or not we have it. From aliens foward the xeno looks vulnerable in alien 1 it doesn't because the success of it was based on showing a perfect scary monster almost impossible to track and kill.

From aliens foward we killed many, we saw predators hunting them like dogs and we saw them look like weak generic space monsters..we lost fear. I got a sense of fear for the xeno on alien isolation ,the game,

And from the queen on the movies...but xenos to me lost their fear factor because i saw too much shit they did with them.

So they have to create new ones..more powerfull more viscious..a individual specie i dont care...give me the ultramorph design in the movie make it the ultimate beast and ill be scared as hell..they need urgently to bring back the mystic factor to xeno and make something acctually putting us with fear behind the screen again. Adult neomoroh design is something to begin.

BD, the fact that the xeno is above the engineers in the mural suggests a form of worship or at the very least the engineers look up to the species for whatever reason. the engineers may be from another planet but we still share the same dna. it isn't too far fetched to suggest that theyr pictures, murals, shrines etc are presented in a very similar way to our own, a higher power being above its subjects who look up to it or a god like entity looking down on its subjects

the topic title makes your question sound a lot deeper than it actually is. I thought i'd be walking into a religious discussion on this one....guess not

ali81

MemberNeomorphJan-26-2017 7:44 AM

not a religious person but I suppose there is an obvious 'religious' tone to the whole alien world since Prometheus. who made us? who made them? etc. I love the idea that even the engineers r creations of another species and these 3 species, engineers/ xeno and higher power so to speak, r locked in a millennia old struggle maybe. the engineers bred to worship yet evolve and grow tired of being subjugated. they learn to travel the stars and either create the xeno as a weapon against theyr creators, which would support the 'only god can make a life' and retribution from the gods angle, or they stumble across the species and after theyr version of scientific studies become convinced the xeno to be the perfect organism and begin to worship it. maybe the higher power accidently bring a xeno to theyr world and the engineers worship the species that wiped out theyr creators. I doubt very much ridley will go so indepth but I think these ideas have great potential

BigDave

MemberDeaconJan-26-2017 8:33 AM

I think potentially the above was the case...

"BD, the fact that the xeno is above the engineers in the mural suggests a form of worship or at the very least the engineers look up to the species for whatever reason"

It depends how we look at it, Hindus Worship and Hold Cows in high regards, does not mean Cows are God.

This Mural i think its a showcase of their Work, they like to show off all their accomplishments.

I think the Mural gave the Engineers a way to procreate that they had lost or had taken away from them.. maybe?

I think for sure they held it in high regards... but the Jesus like pose i think is not to highlight a greater power or God.. or Worship in that way.

The Cruciform pose... that Christ had.. and what Christian based religions use as a way to worship him (despite this being against the rules lol)  was to show and highlight it was the Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross as a path to save Mankind.

The pose is thus to represent Sacrifice... in Spaights draft the Sacrificial Engineer took the same pose just before he broke down and fell into the Waterfall.

The Mural thus... represented...

*Sacrifice needed to achieve the Mural Perfect Organism.

*The Sacrifice of the Mural Organism (that was Perfect) to then make what is stored in those Urns... so they can seed the Mural Organisms DNA over their own Engineer DNA.

it is true in most cases that in murals, the form above is the worshipped entity or the one doing the subjugating. looking down on theyr subjects even as depicted by those who portray it, even if they r the ones who r subjugated. I do take from the murals that, for whatever reason they may have had, the engineers don't see the xeno as a threat. they depict engineers laying down with huggers on them, much in the way its done in avp where the ancient humans gave theyr lives. ok different logic to WHY they do it but still similarities

ali81

MemberNeomorphJan-26-2017 8:42 AM

could be they stumbled on a xeno egg and after witnessing the first chest burster, whether they still have the ability to reproduce themselves or not, they view this as the next stage in theyr evolution?
