The knowledge of the beasts

Ok, there is the vision of Peter Weyland to create better worlds by discovering new planets.
We know due to the future movies that this strategy is another one by searching for the perfect biomechanical weapon.
All crews who got in contact with the beast did not know anything before about the real intention of the Weyland Corp.
What I am wondering is how or if Peter Weyland and also some members got the knowledge for the opportunities for the creation of the Neo- and Xenomorphs.
Did the engineers told them about it ?  But when ?
I bet that the Covenant-crew is also in the same situation as the future crews that they even do not know about the circumstances on LV-223.

Searching for bioweapons wasn't an intention of the Company.  They didn't actively go looking.  However, there are clauses in contracts that state that certain things be investigated, and if they find something that can be commercially exploited, it's a bonus.

Agree with S.M. Bioweapons were not the intention. If anything I feel as though Weyland's original goal was to attempt to uncover Alien technology that could further advance his own technology and take the company beyond its competitors. That was the PROMETHEUS mission. Following that I think Weyland knew advanced technology was within their reach and so, they made it a top priority if any of their deep space vessels discovered any traces of it.

Chris, I'm pretty sure the Prometheus mission was about escaping death for Weyland. Toward the end of his life, he became obsessed with ANYTHING that could lead to saving him, so as soon as Shaw and Halloway introduced him to the "evidence" of the Engineers, he financed a ship and crew. Hence, "Prometheus." This is evidenced by his conversation with Shaw after the (brutal) C-section scene.

@ALIEN426

agree,Peter Wyland long before Prometheus mission was obsessed with idea of immortality ,check out his TED speech,he was believed he is God ,because he created perfect life form on his own image.once Prometheus land on LV 223,David told him about the black goo and its potential .he ordered him to try hard to find more,I think there were much more instruction to David pride to that expedition that we might find out in AC as flashback.

Weyland's immortality quest was the primary (and secret) agenda.  But finding an ancient civilisation could also unearth untold discoveries that could be exploited.  And if they only found something to keep Weyland alive - they've discovered immortality.

Well, I think that David will show us in AC the real strategy of Weyland Corp.

I meant by discovering advanced technology, Weyland hoped he could uncover ways to reverse the process of aging and advance his legacy, which was his company.

I remember a proemtheus poster with the tagline "welcome to immortality". I highly suspect the black goo holds the key to eternal life.

I partly agree. In Alien1 (1979) there is that robot who is very interested to get that facehugger examined. He ignores the quarantine orders of Ripley so he must have had a clue of the potential of the creatores.

Same case in Alien2. Carter Burke is also very interested in that creature.

So I do not really think that the philisophy of Weyland and his company is primary discovering immortality but also to build up his power by using specific weapons.

It isn't the philosophy of the Company to find immortality (just the Prometheus mission).  Nor is it to build power via weapons.

The main purpose is to make money, and that comes via a wide variety of sources.

In Alien, Ash broke quarantine because he had orders.

Again SM is like a Encyclopedia of things post Prometheus and you have to totally agree with them.

I would have commented word for word with them...

But how they are going now... Prometheus ==> Alien Covenant ==> Alien

Could change a few or more things about how we think or what the clues showed us.

Meaning..... they could explore and change what the company and human kind known prior to Alien etc

A lot depends on how much from AC to sequels they cover what the company had known.... and if the Viral sites are correct and cannon..... Source claims about a signal, thats a bust then another that leads to rewards that are actually a trap.

But indeed post Prometheus to Alien a lot has to be explained surely.... post Prometheus it was more simple... after Prometheus and now Alien Covenant it gives more interest to what Special Order 937 must have been.

Looking at Canon as far as movies and Weyland Industry site..

*Company had detected the potential that Lv-426 holds greater rewards at greater risk than LV-223 and a David 8 is embedded to check on such a connection and the rest of the crew are not aware.

*Company had detected that a Planet/Moon in the Zeta 2 system could support life prior to Prometheus.

*so Shaw/Holloways findings point to a same system of interest which is more than Coincidence (not just map two kids found in a cave) hence the Prometheus Misson

*Weyland thus felt potentially the locations could reveal who we as mankind interpreted as Gods and the potential to enhance Weylands Life and the Technology/Knowledge was too much to pass up and worth the risk.

*The Franchise showed the constant and waste of time pursuit for the Xeno Bio-Weapon.... Alien R opened up more of a use, and Prometheus teased more so... and so there could be more to the pursuit of the Xeno than a Bio-Weapon.

Always a possibility.
