The early morning sun rose up in the heavens as it radiates its solar light down on the third planet from its orbit. Its radiance lights up the all to familiar blue skies and white fluffy clouds as it bares down on the earth. The earth is the same earth but at a different time, North America was fused to South America and Africa and by extension India, Arabia, Australia, and Antarctica while Eurasia dominated the upper northern hemisphere.

Our tale takes place in Early Jurassic of northeastern Arizona, some 193 million years ago. Arizona was much wetter than it is today covered in thick forests of cycads, conifers, and ginkgos cover most of the land with an array of rivers cutting across its flats, sounds of heavy foots steps could be heard as underbrush of trees were pushed as sauropodomorphs like Sarahsaurus do their daily routine.... eating.

Far deep in the forest a resting young male dilophosaurus was napping, just a month away from being five years old. An early jurassic frog, Prosalirus hopped on to his snout. The scent and weight of the frog was enough to wake this hungry theropod from its slumber but before he could shoot open his long narrow jaws the frog's instincts drove it to leap at the last second on to the soft muddy ground.

The hungry dilophosaurus rose from his slumbering posture as he slowly chased the hopping frog, the Prosalirus was hopping as fast a he could but the young dilophosaurus, we will call him, "Tarnoc". extended his long slender neck out and snapped at the frog like a stork. His slender teeth made short work of the Prosalirus; But even so this was barely an appetizer, so Tarnoc ventured towards his local riverbank to catch some fish.

Tarnoc approaches the bank, his eyes were keen on a particular fish. A rare Semionotus made a splash near Tarnoc, his favorite fish, Tarnoc carefully placed his right foot in to the shallow water before proceeding to his left foot. He slowly made his movements deliberate as to not scare his prey. He thrashed his claws at the fish, throwing it on to the muddy shore.

Tarnoc cooed in excitement as he trots close to his prize, the fish flapped around helplessly before Tarnoc picked it up with his snout before swallowing in it one gulp. Still hungry, Tarnoc continued to dine on the early jurassic fish before a rather large Laugia-like coelacanth catches his attention. He carefully approaches the fish in hopes to catch it off guard, but before he could even snatch it a female Dilophosaurus snatches it first. She was hiding in the nearby reed-like ferns, she carried the coelacanth back on to shore before bolting off in the woods, instincts drove Tarnoc to pursue her, under normal circumstance he would avoid another member of his kind or even any theropod but today was different.

He followed her tracks and scent as he made himself up the muddy shore until he was surrounded by trees. He would occasionally dart his head towards any disturbances, he stopped to see a small theropod, not quite a coelophysis but not quite a dilophosaurid for it had a stiffed tail and was lacking any vestigial fingers this curiosity was short lived as the dilophosaurus resumed his pursuit of the female.

XENOTARIS - This was an extremely neat presentation! I am very interested in learning more about Tarnoc and his endeavors to survive! Excellent work! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this and share it with us! :)

Tarnoc approached the female, we will call her Juta. Juta offered the suffocating coelacanth to Tarnoc, He was feeling an assortment of various urges: Hunger and procreating were the strongest of these urges.

So Tarnoc stretched out his neck and bit in to the coelacanth's head, he instinctual jerks his head backwards but the female Juta wasn't letting go of the fish's tail. They both tugged at the fish back and forth until the dead coelacanth's spine gave out and the fish was torn in half; spilling its blood and guts on the muddy ground. After finishing his half of the fish, he started feeling frisky and luckily for him the Juta was feeling the same, Tarnoc started pumping blood to his crests on his head to see if this female was interested in him. Juta cocked her head curiously before Tarnoc began chirping while flaring out his forearms and slapping his tail on the ground. Juta accepted after being impressed by such a flashy mating display as her instincts were driving her to find a suitable mate.

The two dilophosaurus rubbed their snouts together before rubbing themselves against each other, then without further ado they aligned their cloaca together and the rest... well... you know. The following morning Tarnoc woke up to a loud sound, a flock of Segisaurus scurried away from the nest as Tarnoc went to secure the perimeter, he would periodically check in on his sleeping mate as he felt a need to protect this female.

hmm looks like I might have to make a hypothetical rival for Dilophosaurus. To be historically accurate to Dilophosaurus's time and geography.

A rare Gojirasaurus approached the dilophosaurus couples' nest, his kind were once numerous during the Triassic's norian epoch but now they are an endanger species. It was about Dilophosaurus' size and even resembled dilophosaurus somewhat just lacking the ornamental cranial crests.

Tarnoc growled as the intruder approached the nests, he flared out his forearms with his four finger hand (three functional, one vestigial) as he then started to make gurgling noises in his throat to ward off the gojirasaurus. The Gojirasaurus took a step closer before Juta rose from her resting spot, Goji not wanting to have to deal with two dilophosauruses decided it was best to seek a new nesting ground.

A few months later....

Tarnoc awoke to hatchlings chirping, Juta carefully removed the broken shells out of the nest and she disposed of any eggs that did not hatch. Tarnoc stretched himself as he stood up, he walked over to Juta to groom her protofeathers from any parasites before heading out to secure the perimeter of their home. In these few months that had passed, the gojirasaurus Goji had "visited" them more frequently with each passing month. Tarnoc ever so vigilant grew accustomed to his scent, now that Tarnoc has offspring; a new instinct he felt, something new to protect in addition to his mate and himself.

well Dilophosaurus and Crylophosaurus were the largest theropods of their day, the Early Jurassic.

although there might of been an early form of Ceratosaurus competing with Dilophosaurus. Also I might do a sequel series with an early Tetanurae Theropod

Tarnoc and his mate Juta were leading their little ones to the nearby river bank. Each step they make were deliberate and careful as they were still on alert, Tarnoc takes a whiff of the air to determine how far is Goji from their position before resuming their hunting trip. A Protosuchus richardsoni was lying in wait among the fern-reeds to prey on one of the baby Dilophosauruses the moment the parents are off their guard. Juta stopped in her tracks as the scent from protosuchus reached her nostrils, she turned back but it was too late, one of her hatchlings squalled as it was pulled away by the early jurassic crocodylomorph. Juta bellowed at the protosuchus as she followed in after the crocodylomorph, protosuchus maneuvered himself to avoid the half-ton angry mother's clawed feet. Protosuchus opened his jaws wide as he bellowed that crocodilian hiss before snapping on to Juta's leg.

Juta hissed as she tries to pull her leg out of the Protosuchus's mouth but it was not budging due to the Crocodylomorph's teeth. The protosuchus slapped his powerful tail against the water as he attempted to disbalance Juta to where she would fall in the water, however Tarnoc rushed over to trample the primitive Crocodylomorph. Beaten the Protosuchus released Juta's leg as it made a break towards the shore, the protosuchus revealed it was a surprisingly good runner in addition of being a good swimmer. Tarnoc snorted as he and Juta reunite with their remaining hatchlings. Juta was limping, while leaving a small trail of blood in her wake which would draw the attention of other predators not just protosuchus but something much bigger and more closer to home than comfortably wanted.

In the distance Goji was planning another advance on the Dilophosaurus family but something was coming that not even he would want to tangle with, a Berberosaurus had ventured to far north from its native home of what would be northern Africa and made his way into North America, Arizona. Berberosaurus was (possibly) an early Ceratosaurian theropod, more advanced than the Dilophosaurus. It was actually smaller than the Dilophosaurus but its was better at tackling down other dinosaurs.
