Ridley Scott was quoted in a recent interview as saying he hopes re-invent the Alien. He also was quoted saying he plans to out-do the Chestburster scene from his 1979 original. Though he has eluded to the fact that we will see recognizable Aliens in the Prometheus sequel, I'm wondering if we should.

If we are to get a kick of nostalgia and witness the iconic Facehugger impregnate a person to give birth to the iconic Chestburster which then grows into the iconic Alien Xenomorph, I think it should be in the final scenes of the film.

The entire biology and origin of the Alien is part of what the Prometheus series has set out to explain. If we are to jump ahead and show the beast in all its forms as we've already seen, there's no more mystery.

Prometheus' Trilobite and Hammerpedes were great additions to the Alien lore, explaining that the Xeno-biology is not limited to one form. Even the Deacon was close enough but also different enough to excite our imaginations and wonder how we get from that to the classic Xenomorph.

In Alien: Covenant, I'm all for Scott out-doing himself and re-inventing the Alien, but I want some explanation and I want to see more forms of the biology, as well as its evolution like Prometheus set out to do. What about you?

There is a problem, how do you top the chest burster scene? I am not sure if you can do that. Maybe there is a way but it will be very difficult to do so.

I think that it would be better if we will see new monsters because we have already seen the Xeno a lot of times before. The more often you see it the less effective it gets.

Maybe they could elaborate a bit about the Hammerpede and make more gruesome versions of it? This could work if they do it right. I think that the new monsters were interesting in Prometheus.

Like you say Chris, if they shall have it in the movie it could be in the end and hence not a lot.

New monsters please, they could be related to the Xeno but still new. What is the most important thing is that they do human characters that we can relate to. I know that I repeat myself but I honestly think that is what is needed to make this work.

It's going to be difficult, but I think we could see different incarnations of each stage of the lifecycle.

Logically, these should fall somewhere between what we saw in Prometheus and then later on in ALIEN.

So, enough MORB-family similarities to please, with the right combo of adaptations to make them appear different and new.

Now, would these newer offspring of the Alien. Going how the crashed derelict is almost two thousand years old. So, that would make the xeno and older organism? No? We would see an evolved version or both, old and new?

Ridley seems to want  to Top the Original but we have seen this Scene over and over...

The only way to Top it would be.

*For it to effect Characters we are more drawn into, imagine if Alien 5 came out and showed Ripley eventually dies this way but she did so in Alien 3.

*For it to have a effect, then it needs to be shocking and connected to the above, and nothing more shocking than it happening to a Child.... can you imagine if it was not the Dog in Alien 3 but we saw a full Gory Newt Chest Buster... i think that would have topped the Original.

*Going back to the above about shock and Gore, it would have to be more Gorey than Kanes, the unused Spaights concept of Holloway Chest Buster Scene would have been very visceral and shocking.

*The other way the Original was as good as what it was, is the cast was unaware of exactly how bad and Gorey and when it would happen.  the true shocked reaction of the cast, helped to add the sense of real shock to that scene..

Ridley attempted this again with Milburn and Hammerpede flying out, actress Kate Dickie (Ford) was truely shocked by this and never knew what was going to happen.

Exactly BigDave - I think it needs to honestly be a surprise. Don't even show us that they get Facehugged. Let them backtrack the victim's steps to discover a dead Facehugger. We as the audience can not and should not see it coming at all. That will be the epitome of shock.

@Lone - I have to disagree. I think keeping with the slight "Morb" similarities is good. The Deacon was not mere fan service, it was an evolutionary step for the Xenomorph Genome. Like a virus it has abilities to mutate and adapt, but it's primal makeup remains the same. I enjoyed the Trilobite and Deacon, even the Hammerpedes! They were different enough but also similar enough that we could make connections to that Genome. I'm all for new variations of the Xenomorph in Alien: Covenant.

I just hope it is a horror with a great script

The poster was good though!

That is a good point Chris...

Ridley said we have them all, Egg, Face Hugger, Chest Buster and Big Guy.... but we have seen them all before.

Once you see Crew Member X get Facehuged then you know whats going to happen and roughly work out when... but if we dont see it like in Spaights draft with Holloway until after... (after Watts/Shaw looks at footage from his camera) no one saw it coming.

Chris: Yeah I think that the Deacon and the Squid alien were some good things about Prometheus. If we don't see the victim explode (like Kane did) we can make our own conclusion, that could be interesting.

Year one.....

"The facehuggers scurried from their nest and towards David. Dozen's of creatures climbed his legs. Soon he was swarmed under. David could feel the 'huggers' attempting access through his mouth, poking and prodding his ears and nose. His synth body struggles with the added weight. He didn't dare kill one...Their acid blood was too much for even Davids skin.....No, he needed these creatures alive.

Satisfied with his haul...David released the Nano-germs. Within 5 seconds they attacked the Facehuggers motor synapses, one by one, the aliens fell from David, making a neat little pile around his feet. He reached down, picked one that looked like a healthy specimen and placed it in his satchel.

His Nano-Germs were a success!"

Year four....

"David rose from the throne, immediately three Xenomorph Queens bowed before him, he watched as dozens submitted for copulation. Stepping from the throne he gently stroked the carapace of the nearest Queen, across from David a massive King Xenomorph let loose a low growling sound..... David shot it a deadly look....the sounds stopped.

Yes, thought David, It's good to be King!"

Thanks BD!

One more....

Year eight....

"David maneuvered the starship into orbit around the 3rd moon. The scanners revealed a barren lifeless world. Warning beacons left by the Engineers 500 years earlier 'beeped' every 3.14 seconds. The Elders had warned David of the system and the war they had fought with the Karn a thousand years prior. Both races had suffered major losses, the Karn finally escaping this reality through a Calabi-Yau manifold...Something the Elders called a 'Ghost Drive'. This is what David was after. The elders were superstitious lot, having little need for advanced alien technology...They were far more concerned with their Gods.

David was looking for a space station, a super structure twenty Kilometers long. He had a full compliment of five hundred Xenomorphs, all in cryo-sleep. He intended on inserting 100 Xeno's onto the Karn station. As he grew near the massive object, the Scanner alerted him to another starship, this ship was already docked at the station....David recognized the ship's signature...It was a Prometheus class Earth ship.........

Yep i loves some of those ideas.... but i wonder what we shall have in store for Alien Covenant...

The source mentioned, that now we have Alien Covenant and its 10 years after Time Line, that potentially it could miss a few big events set 25 years prior to Alien.  This would be 2097 and 3 years after Prometheus but 7 years prior to Covenant.... i think these events are regarding what transpired between the end of Prometheus and Alien Covenant that we may not be shown.

If these events are within real time of that timeframe 2094-2104 then i can only guess they have to be regarding one of more of these points..

*What becomes of Shaw

*What do they find on Paradise

*David would had been there for a while before Covenant arrive. What has he been upto since then.

*Another mission or probe or investigation to information about Prometheus and LV-223 (how did Covenant get the co-ordinants? just coincidence?)

So was that 2097 when David reached Paradise, or when something happened on Paradise, or when the company gained information on Paradise or LV-223 and Prometheus Missions failings?

This is assuming the Source is Legit....  but it seems we are going to be bypassing the events of 2094-2104

Would we had seen Chest Busters in between this time? That we wont now, unless their is Flash Back Scenes.

David simply turning up on Paradise to a World with nothing there, and no Shaw..... and then how the Covenant arrive by Coincidence to the same place... means a lot of stuff has gone on prior to Covenant that we would not be seeing now... or maybe we get little clues.

You summed up every thing perfectly BigDave.

There is so many things that could be written(filmed?) about the years between 2094-2104.

I hope Fox hires some writers to fill in the timeline. Graphic novels would be fine...but I'd really like to read a novel..trilogy of Shaw and David books.

i think as Michelle said and Thought_Dreams....  maybe some things they feel was not necessary to the plot/story

Like if we take Ridley Scotts  Exodus Gods and Kings, you will notice that compared to the Bible, and other movies on the story of Mosses... Ridley expanded on and added stuff that was not in the Bible, to flesh out the Characters and how we see them... while leaving out a number of things that are not maybe needed to tell the tale in the way they wanted to do so, Prime example for instance would be the Mosses and the Staff that changes to a Snake..... when Mosses comes down with the 10 Commandments and sees his people engaging in sodomy and worship to false idols... and then after when he then when he declairs and speaks out the 10 Commandments.... to more details of the Ark and how it got from Mount Sinai to the Temple and those who suffered death by touching the Ark on the way.

These was not covered in Ridleys Exodus but did it effect the story?  Maybe to cover all of those would have made the movie near 4 hours long and drawn out.

And so yes maybe Fox and Ridley felt some parts of the story they was going to cover dont need to be covered, we could have hints at missing parts in the next movie after Alien Covenant.

All I gotta say is if he indeed intends to top the OG Chestburster Scene.. One of the crew needs to be essentially turned inside out as the DNA of said crewmember BioForms into the newborn Alien; essentially Eggmorphing but a quicker process as far as end result goes.

I personally picture all of the ribs to instantly jut out at an apex while simultaneously piercing the Crew member's skin & then it starts to fuse together into a Grotesque yet AweInspiring new creation.

In order to top the original, you'll have to avoid gore and go more for eeriness. Maybe have the person screaming strangely and contorting limbs backwards before being chestbursted. Then afterwards, the dead body would still have to be contorting for more effect.
