Well, so far for what they have planned for us are; Kong: Skull Island in 2017, Godzilla 2 in 2018, and then Godzilla vs King Kong in 2020. Will this be enough to start the universe? Most likely. And this can give fans, and Legendary opportunities to make so many crossovers and make a brand new franchise. Basically, I'm just gonna say what I think Legendary may do, or what possibly could and ever be made.

Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla- of course, this isn't much of a surprise as we all determined this would happen at some point, but instead we get Godzilla vs. King Kong. I would really like to see how Gareth and Legendary can make this happen in a creative/realistic way.

Godzilla vs Gigan- Okay, this is something I really want to see. Of course, Gigan had only made three appearances in Godzilla vs Gigan, Godzilla vs Megalon, and then Godzilla: Final Wars (I was actually interested to see how Gigan could've been made in the heisi series). Now this would be something somewhat scary, and really awesome to see. Now, I've already thought of how this could work as this franchise revolves around Monarch. So, somewhere in the arctic, Monarch has an expedition searching for any hidden kaiju as they find Gigan. They bring him back for studies as he's closely/somewhat related to the first MUTOs that Godzilla killed in 2014. Gigan wakes up going on a rampage, as Godzilla rewakens to fight the threat as he's displayed as a alpha predator to bring balance.

Godzilla vs Cthulhu- Most likely, there's no way this could be made, but is a small possibility. This wouldn't be very popular, but it will most definetly get the fans on board. As seen before and mentioned, there's been multiple debates of who would win, and how this so much fanart of this topic. Now, with the realistic tone to Legendary's Universe, will it happen.... no, but it could play as an extra, stand alone, or "backup".

Godzilla vs Gamera- And we all know the biggest thing, GODZILLA VS GAMERA!!!!! Now, I know this is the biggest thing that all of the fans would go crazy for. The only way we could ever get a crossover between them would be through Legendary's franchise (considering TOHO and Tokusatsu would have troubles with rights and etc). And before this would happen, there would probably need to be another stand alone Godzilla film or sequel leading up to this, and a Gemera film as well. This is basically the only way we could ever see them clash with each other and fight. (And I honestly think this won't be made until like the 100th anniversery or something, but still an amazing idea!)

Gamera- Well, Legendary could possibly do this. But I don't have much in mind about this, although it could work well.

Anyway, I ran out of some ideas, those were some of the things I've been thinking of what Legendary could make. Let me know what you guys think, and write down some ideas you have in mind what Legendary could make.

I'd like to see a Cthulhu movie without Godzilla, since there is none (The black and white one looks more like a fan made movie).

Godzilla vs. Gamera: I think this is more likely going to be an asian production. Maybe Godzilla v Kong will give it a push.

Godzilla V Gigan/ Mechagodzilla: Think they might be in the last Legendary Godzilla Movie.

After Godzilla takes on Kong, the sky may be the limit. I mean, why not MechaGodzilla after that? I feel like the series, not unlike the original Godzilla series, will get more and more loose with its "realism" as it goes on.

I wouldn't be surprised if the emphasis shifted to a "Kong versus *-*" series of movies, with the titular ape gaining the title KING after having bested Godzilla.

Hey, I'm not saying that's what I'd LIKE to happen, I'm just saying . . .

highly doubt it Krakenbane, highly doubt it. I think it would be more than likely that the Legendary Godzilla will not feature Mechagodzilla but instead something similar to the Jaegers from Pacific Rim because come on Americans perfer a giant humanoid to fight something inhuman. The mechagodzilla is more of a weird Japanese thing.

Krakenbane,
I think your theory will come down to which monster makes more at the box office. As it stands, Skull Island isn't looking like it will make what Godzilla did. (Or even be much of a success at all.) So continuing the series with a set of "Kong vs..." movies wouldn't make a lot of financial sense.

Additionally, I highly doubt there will be a clear cut winner in the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong. (Assuming it still gets made.) With both Godzilla and Kong being treated as pseudo-protagonists in their standalone films, there's currently no established antagonist between the two. My money is on them teaming up against another monster.

"The mechagodzilla is more of a weird Japanese thing."

Xenotaris,
Say what? How is it any weirder? And giant humanoids/humanoid robots aren't a, "weird Japanese thing"? Pacific Rim and Transformers are directly inspired and taken from Japanese sources that popularized the concept of giant humanoids/humanoid robots:

Per usual, your logic confounds me, Xeno.

Oooh I can't wait to see what Legendary King Ghidorah will look like! He should get his own movie!

Alrighty then, well I honestly can't wait to see what happens also. And yeah, to be fair, Kong's not gonna get that much at the box office considering the early reviews already and just by their change in tone with the recent spots and trailer, they're kinda trying too much to be like the MCU. I honestly hope that Michael Doughtery doesn't fuck it up like he did with Krampus, cause that had some mix reviews. I really like the idea they're going for with this surrounding Monarch and other monsters, it's really cool.

Now ow with my ideas, those were just some thoughts thrown out there of what they could possibly do. Gamer and Godzilla together, yeah, American wise it wouldn't work well considering the majority of America doesn't have a clue who Gamera is, but it's worth a shot. Gigan they could work very cleverly into this and with Mecha-Godzilla or somethin like the Jaegers, I don't see that happening at all now. Now, with the idea of Kong and Godzilla teaming up together, THAT'S STUPID. I don't want I to be like BVS where they only fight for 8 min. and then team up all of a sudden. To me what it looks like so far, I hope that Godzilla and Kong will be some form of enemies considering that the monsters are now being portrayed as once rulers and the dominant species I earth.

Now with Cthulhu, yeah, he should get his own film.

While I feel like having Godzilla and Kong team up against another monster is a little bit of a cop out, I don't think it's a bad or stupid idea if done well. Everyone is pointing to Batman v. Superman as a reason to not do that, but quickly forget that in Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster Godzilla and Rodan fought throughout the entire movie before teaming up to fight King Ghidorah.

It just seems like the most likely route to avoid fan backlash from claiming a clear-cut winner. And, like I said, both Kong and Godzilla are being portrayed as the protagonists of their respective, solo movies. Setting up two established "heroes" against each other usually ends with some sort of cop out.

Slightly relevant--Here's a fan made timeline of the MonsterVerse. Personally, I don't think it's going to make it past Godzilla vs. Kong anymore. But I suppose it's fun to dream:

Wow. There I go thinking like a fan and not a studio exec. My bad.

So, maybe I WOULD be surprised if Legendary actually tried something New and Creative. As a fan, I think I might LIKE to see a few "King Kong VS - " flicks, maybe including a modernized MechaniKong even! Then, I would throw a challenge Kong could not beat alone at him, and ta-da! Godzilla returns for that team-up I've seen mentioned around here.

Never gonna happen, you say? Okay, but you might agree taking the "monsterverse" in such a direction could be a pretty cool way to go.

?

Anyway, yeah, I'd love to see more solo Kong stuff, particularly in this universe. I just don't have high hopes for it. In fact my optimism for Godzilla vs. Kong still happening will likely depend on the numbers this weekend.

Even though those aren't real movies I would love to see them get made, except for Gamera. I don't hate Gamera but I do think that the concept of a giant flying turtle is a little too goofy for the Legendary series.

Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.

AdminGodzillaMar-08-2017 5:31 PM

I think the concept of Gamera would work fine, especially seeing how the trilogy dealt with it. That being said, the likelyhood of it happening? Well...

I'll say this much, I read a Deadline article that paints Kong's box office prospects in a more positive light. Hopefully, and just maybe, it will squeak by as a modest success.

Hopefully something new. I just hope it doesn't start feeling stale like the Transformers movies.

CGF (Crazy Godzilla Fan)

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-09-2017 2:09 PM

Oh jeez, don't even mention the Transformers. The only characters that went through an actual arc was Optimus and Megatron... That is it, and all of them are the same exact thing. And to be fair with this, I honestly don't think they'll go beyond Godzilla vs Kong, but if they want to go with this #Monsterverse idea,  they would have to com sip with other films than just Godzilla or Kong.

I would actually like to see an Anguirious film to be honest.

Well they have writers board bouncing ideas off of each other for Godzilla vs Kong, so it's definitely happening. Whether or not it's the last movie depends on how good Godzilla: King of The Monsters and it do.

I would love to see them bring "The Beast from 20,000 fathoms" back. But I doubt it will happen.

Kong: Skull Island is at $509 mil and climbing! That's in four weeks. It will eventually overtake G 14, which had a run of about 15 weeks. I think it's safe to say it will be a success for Legendary.

jiger9899

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-06-2017 8:53 PM

@KoldWarKid62 I think it will too. It already has as far as foreign numbers and it will worldwide as well. I don't know about domestically though.

G. H. (Gman)

AdminGodzillaApr-06-2017 10:01 PM

Jiger,
Currently Skull Island has passed $150 million at the domestic box office. It'll probably trickle into the $160-170 million range by the end of its run. Godzilla hit $200 million domestically. It's still a domestic success, especially considering the insane competition. Quite frankly I thought Skull Island would be lucky to surpass $100 million domestically.

Skull Island made $32 million worldwide on the last four weekdays. I'm willing to bet it hits or surpasses Godzilla's final worldwide gross by the end of the weekend. If not, it will definitely pass Godzilla's $529 million sometime next week.

Godzilla's name recognition and its killer ad/marketing campaign made people want to see it, but word of mouth cooled it down. Considering it made $93 mil it’s first weekend, which was fantastic, it took a painfully long time to reach $200 mil.

It's been the complete opposite with Kong. It looks like Legendary learned their lesson with Godzilla, because even though Edwards is a better filmmaker, from a movie-going entertainment experience, overall Kong delivered where Godzilla didn’t, and that's the difference.

It makes me look forward to their future movies in this monsterverse even more.

G. H. (Gman)

AdminGodzillaApr-07-2017 9:43 AM

Yes, word of mouth for Kong has been much better than Godzilla and repeat business has been a factor indicating that audiences really like it. Though the movie still lacks strong characters, it did deliver ones that were more engaging with an adventure story that entertains. People just like this movie and that's great news.

Did I call it in my last couple of posts in this thread or what? Kong: Skull Island just surpassed Godzilla's worldwide gross of $529 million with $534 million! It will likely surpass Peter Jackson's Kong soon.

It's mind blowing. It's really amazing to see the film do this well and be this successful, both domestically and abroad.

Domestically it's hit $156 million, which is nothing to sniff at right now and may be within the $170 million range before its all over. The movie has legs, which means it's liked. Legendary needs to pump out another one like this in 2019.
