MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 2:00 PMSo today I watched the film for a second time. I felt that I needed to watch the film a second time to be sure if it set well with me and to see if I missed anything.
Let's start with what bothered me the most the first time watching it:
- Bryan Cranston's early death
- Airport (blue balls) Godzilla scene
After the second viewing the death of Bryan's character did not bother me, as a matter of fact I kind of feel it needed to happy just for the simple thought that his character had become a bit "loopey" along the years so I accepted his death and the passing of the story to Aaron's character.
The airport scene: I still think that we needed to see the fight even if it was a brief one. It didn't bother me as bad as the first time but I still think it was necessary just for the general audience who are not G Fans so they don't lose attention to the film. Now the second blue ball moment in the city when the winged muto goes after Godzilla and the doors close I can accept that IF we got the airport scene fight. But two blue ball moments are not good for the general audience, but on a personal level it didn't bother me bad enough for me to hate the film.
Little thing that bothered me is: The timed nuke was suppose to have a huge blast radius and it does go off but did it really get far from the city? Didn't seem like it.
My rating has actually changed since my first viewing. The film has actually bumped up from a 4 to a 4.5 out of 5 for me, it lost .5 a star because it needed just a bit more of Godzilla.
One more note: Stop comparing this film to Pacific Rim. Godzilla is a totally different vibe from Pacific Rim.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 2:47 PMI agree, I saw the film a second time and liked it 10x more then when I originally saw it. I caught a lot of stuff I didn't catch before, and I overall liked it more. I do agree that a slight bit more of Godzila would've been good.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 2:51 PMI recently saw it again as well. One big thing that bugged me about Ford (aside from his lack of personality) is that he never delivered on his EOD boasts. They kept on raising him up as the bomb guy, the go-to de-activator of bombs. They worked it into every other conversation. He did not once de-activate a bomb.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 3:19 PMNow that you mention the deactivate bomb deal, he could have used that pry bar pole thing he used to push the boat out to pry open the control doors on the warhead lol. Oh well no movie is without sin

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 3:42 PMI really love the film now, it has gave me a whole new perspective on Godzilla. I was beginning to be "wore out" on the Japanese versions going too "Anime" or "Mythological" in the millenium series. After G2000 I started to dislike the films. But this US version gave a sense of realism and don't have that stupid Japanese honor and greater good character development. I know that's their culture but I was getting tired of it. That's why Im not a big fan of GMK

MemberBaragonMay-17-2014 5:50 PMNot surprising that a second viewing improves upon the first. Same here. The little nuances that might be missed from the first viewing can usually be caught with a second viewing, so one leaves with a better appreciation of the movie.
The film, as I said before elsewhere, is not perfect. But I do concur that I am more satisified with the film with the second viewing.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 6:12 PMI don't see where people truly start hating it because they're are far worse movies and let's be honest I like pacific rim cause I'm a nerd but its not that good of a movie and its kind of a modern day corny. I like G2014 100x more than PR
