MemberBaragonMay-14-2014 5:52 PMHey there, G-fans! Can you all believe we are only 24 HOURS AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE OPENING?!?!?!?! It’s hard to believe we’ve made it this far! The wait is almost over!
Anyway, I found a little tidbit of information I think you all need to know… Yesterday, Toho Kingdom teased upcoming one on one interviews with the cast and crew of Godzilla, including Ken Watanabe and Thomas Tull, and that tease was an incredible bit of awesomeness that went a little something like this…
Chris Mirjahangir: Will there be an extended cut of this (Godzilla) on the DVD/Blu-ray?
Thomas Tull: Yes
Mirjahangir: Like Peter Jackson style where it's all blended in together?
Tull: Well, that's really Gareth's choice. There are certainly some scenes and things you're gonna see, and it's up to him how he wants to present that to fans.
Well… there ya go! This is huge news, and while it’s not super shocking, it is a wonderful thing to look forward to! Various viewers have noted that scenes appear to be missing from the final cut that explained certain plot points, but were removed for pacing reasons. When Tull says its “Gareth’s choice”, that shouts “Director’s Cut”, which means certain deleted scenes, such as the extended prologue (the sequence was originally much longer, but was trimmed to maintain a strong pace) and, of course, Akira Takarada’s cameo, will almost certainly be reinstated into the film for home video release!!!!
Here’s the link to Toho Kingdom’s news page, with the news and the interview excerpt posted on May 12th:

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-14-2014 11:32 PMExcellent. I hope they also add the concept videos into like the special features on the DVD or something. I want to see the original airport scene from the SDCC 2013 where the MUTO looked different to what it is now.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-15-2014 12:59 AMI will buy the 2 Blueray Disc Special Edition of Godzilla (if there will be one) because I love films on blueray which have a second special disc with hours of making of's, interviews and so on...
AND hopefully with deleted scenes :)

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2016 12:04 PMit's been two years....I skipped buying the original bluray when I found out that the directors cut was coming out. What's the status on this extended version????

AdminGodzillaMar-04-2016 6:59 PMRight now? I'd place this under the "currently not happening" column of things.
Last chance for a director's cut to surface will be leading up to Godzilla 2.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-13-2016 8:00 PMI would hope that in the lead up to Godzilla 2018, there will be a special edition release of Gareth Edward's Godzilla. An enhanced, Blu-ray/DVD version of the film that started what will hopefully be a franchise would be a great way to promote the upcoming sequel. If there is a special edition, I would like to see at least the following features:
- Trailers and TV Spots
- Deleted Scenes (Especially Admiral Stenz's Halo Jump Speech)
- Directors' and Visual Effects Supervisor's Commentaries
- Making Of/Behind the Scenes Footage
- Interviews with the Cast
- Feature about the Scoring of Godzilla, featuring the Composer, Alexandre Desplat
Obviously, this is a wish list, and it's ambitious. But, I've seen 'fully-loaded' releases for films that were a lot less successful commericially and did not lead to franchises.
Anyway, this is what this fan would like to see.
Any thoughts?
