Hello Spacepeople ! Back in the forum with an exciting stuff... or at least I hope so ! If this has been already discussed, please don't blame me. So everybody wanders what is the strange creature kneeling under the engineer on the fresco of the ampules room. Today a friend sends me an old artwork from giger about early concept of the facehugger. Guess what ? This old facehugger concept art has the same "birdy" head as the creature of the fresco !!! I don't have a clue of the possible meaning of that but I want all of you to share your feelings about this !!! Pictures are below :

Now why didn't Ridley put that in Prometheus instead of that ridiculous squid thingy?

The poster was good though!

Maybe he wants to keep it mysterious until prometheus 2 ! Sounds to me that these engineers were doing crazy genetics stuff with the goo... but to reach what ? We still can't put the fingers on the purpose.

Do you think that this "turkey head" could mean something in the prometheus plot ? Looking at this pictures I can see some weird connection between the face of the birdy kneeling creature and the old facehugger design from Giger. Could it be a clue to some other important creature from the engineer universe or is it just random use by Ridley of old concept art from Giger ? Can't wait for more speculations !

LOL the 'turkeyburster' aside, there are similarities with that beak-like mouth. To answer your last question granolaboy, I have no idea! Unless this creature makes some some sort of appearance, or is referred to in the sequel, I guess we'll just have to assume it's one of many Giger concepts which have been reworked!

@Major Noob, you liked the squid. To each their own, for every man a religion. :-)

The poster was good though!

I like Shaw's burster as well, but it's not a squid! To me, it looks like (and makes sense as) literally a Black-Goo infected Hooloway Sperm cell. (Correct me if i'm crazy, but It looks like a friggin' Alien sperm!!!) I agree that the beak has some resemblence, but so do all Alienesque creatures. Seems they are varieties of the same thing.

Squid or mutate sperm cell, we can asume this is the same :) To go back to the original thread, I have the feeling that this creature with a beak could be an important part of the equation to solve the mystery around engineer belief and technology. I even think it's possible that the design of the "spacejockey suit" is related to them. We have seen in the movie , the suit is like an exoskeleton and the helmet looks more like a bird head. Before Prometheus we used to refere this design as a elephantine looking due to the trunk connected on the helmet... but now it's clear that this is much a birdy or even an eagle shape. That's fit perfectly in the original prometheus mythology. I would love to learn more about this species in the sequel ! Maybe they are an ancestor of the engineer, or the God they took the fire from !

Agreed! I would love to learn more about this potential "missing link" species! Very cool looking! I always wondered if the Engineers on LV223 were using these amazing creatures (xenos, bird headed things, etc) to genetically improve themselves. The suit we see at the end looks like an integrated part of the engineer, and it is highly similar to the Xeno form. Chicken or egg?

Mmmmm Chicken! I'm starting to think that the hunched over creature, in the mural, is some primitive lifeform (Engineer or human) that the engies experimented on with the black stuff, resulting in it looking the way it does. Maybe it was that creature that was chasing the engineers down the halls in the hologram? The engineer in the mural looks to me like he is trying to get away from it!

The poster was good though!

@granolaboy - Thanks for the Giger connection! IMHO - It is always important when we find something new that can be traced back to his original Alien work, as it is significant to what may be going on in Prometheus. Great thread!

@cerulean blue - There is so much in Giger work that sometimes (ok very often I admit) I have the feeling he is the real storyteller behind all this twisted tale...

Ooooh ! Seems that we find back the strange head creature decorating the top of the Archway to the ampules room : This has to be some godlike being, or some animal connected to the engineer's beliefs or even Religious faith (like Egyptian mythology had Horus or toth). If not, why would it be everywhere in this temple ? What do you think about ?

Granolaboy Thanks for posting the last image. From the storyboards of alien is was often thought that the xeno was morphing to its last stage of adulthood. Could this be what the adult xeno would have looked like ?

granolaboy

MemberOvomorphOct-03-2013 4:13 PM
I've never heard about this possible final stage of xeno adulthood. I'm very curious and interested about this Oduodu ! Is there some concept arts or readings related to this "last morphing" ?

Granolaboy One of the posts indicate that the xeno was able to morph to another stage. Maybe I misunderstood. I always thought that the xenoo in alien didn't attack ripley because it knew the ship would explode and needed het to pilot the lifeboat. Also that was in its final stage of morphing. But the poster indicated that the morphing was towards eggs and not a final stage as such. As I remember it ridleys ideas was that the xeno was like an insect and that made me think that he meant that the xeno was like an insect that had to morph to its final stage like a butterfly . Sorry if I misunderstood. I guess the xeno was just dying. Sorry

Argh ! I lost my reply :( So let's do it short and ledgible or at least I let's try :) Here is what I understood while reading your post and seeing preproduction and deleted scenes from Alien : The Xeno would have eventually died quickly because it is only a step in the evolution of the species. It is programmed to make cocoons (or eggs) using other living beings and morph them into some nesting stuff. This is what we saw in the deleted scene where Dallas and Brett are captured by the Xeno and going under a the proces of"egg transformation". BUT I always thought it was meant to be facehugger eggs ! What you suggest ( if I understand you properly) is that this the final step of evolution of the xeno (adulthood) that would have came out of the cocoons if Ripley haven't burnt all the mess ! I'm crazy of this idea, this gives me a totally fresh vision of the franchise. Maybe the birdy creature seen on the fresco is the final xeno ? Ok, we have not enough indications in Prometheus to make the link but that's always good for speculative minds ! Now that i think about it, I never understood the original poster of the Alien movie : the one with the white broken egg and the green goo. This doesn't look like the facehugger eggs we see in the movie. Could it be a clue to the original idea of Ridley ?

That a good question. The egg broken with green goo. Never thought of that before. Dunno. I now scrap the insect idea thing because I now see its not what ridley intended. But I vaguely remember something about ridley thinking about the xeno as insect and not as a lizard or mamal type organism. That's why got the idea that he was thinking if the xeno as a insect kind of creature that was going to morph to a final adult stage . I could never understand why a supposedly perfect creature would live only for 24 hours and then die. What the point of that ? In orometheus we have a black goo that will morph you in about 24 hours. So there a correlation there I suppose. So the perfect organism dies within 24 hours ? That's why I thought maybe it was starting to morph into whatever and knew to go to the lifeboat. That's the reason why it didn't kill Ripley as it knew it needed her to survive the nuclear blast of the nostromo. But if it was morphing on the lifeboat then what was it morphing into or was it just dying ?

Remember it a human skull and probably a human brain as well . What it created for ?

Is the birdy creature going under a process of mutation on the fresco ?
It seems that the top of its head is distorted and bubbling. We saw the same effect happening to Fiefield and the dead engineer because their body had been corrupted by the goo.
Does the fresco tell us that engineers made experiment on this creature or that engineer were "born" of mutated birdy xeno ???

We simply dont know....

The Fresco is very God and Adam fresco in which case the Engineer is God and Birdy is well Adam, this could hint that this Organism is created from Engineer.. But the Engineers pose seems to be as if it is pushing away from the creature...  But then maybe petting it? But then the Engineer is looking down wards... Its as if he is giving a blessing to this creature.

The creature is in a submissive pose or a fetal one like a chlid in the womb...

It is very Ambigious...  What is its purpose.... yes looks like it has a beak.... could it be the Eagle that Pecks at Prometheus day after day, thus this Engineer is Prometheus the one who stole the fire to maybe create Mankind?

Then again it does not have to be a Beak...

I want to point out Dan O'Bannons idea for the Alien... before Giger came on board..

Look familiar?

Now Check out this concept work for what the inside of the Temple in Star Beast that the Eggs/Urns was found in.....

Do you notice the creature that is Sacrificed on the Altar in the Fresco behind it?  This Fresco near Altar is like Promethues one behind that Altar.. what we see is a creature that is like O'Bannons Alien design with what looks like a Octopoid Organism like Shaws Baby that Face Hugged the Last Engineer.

Are these any connection? Who knows?
