MemberNoobJul-14-2013 8:47 PMWell, in the movie just holding on to a kaiju let them pass through the portal, which they learned about last minute. so im thinking... make a jaeger that has some kaiju parts actually incorporated onto the mecha.
since just piggybacking worked (which does NOT work in the terminator movies apparently... cant bring weapons, clothes, so on even on your body)
then having tissues such as bone and skin built directly into or onto the mecha should work like a charm.
chow knows all about detoxifying and the uses of the parts, the slum they showed was partly made out of kaiju bones and such. im sure he could and would help with the project of making such a monster. it should be able to pass in and out as it wants without the trouble of having to grab one of those big bad monsters to bring with.
i don't remember them saying the DNA had to be from living tissue, it just had to be kaiju.... im sure if the tissues and bones are still in good enough condition to have DNA samples taken of it, then it should be well preserved enough to work.
also, how sweet would it be to hollow out a kaiju head and plop it right onto your jaeger's head like a helmet? that's some intimidating **** right there ^_^

MemberNoobJul-15-2013 1:44 AMTo be fair, Terminator is all about "going back in time" whereas Pacific Rim is about "crossing a dimensional rift". I suppose different rules apply to each scenario.
And while it would be nice to build a Jaeger/Kaiju hybrid, I think (for cinematic purposes) it's much cooler to beat the crap out of a kaiju and drag its dead carcass behind.

actually, you are also splitting hairs because in so many sci fi stories dimensions and time travel are pretty intertwined. how do you know going through the dimensional rift didn't send gypsy back a thousand years on the aliens end?
and they ALREADY KICKED A KAIJU'S ASS AND DRAGGED IT BEHIND! so you want the way through the portal to be the exact same every movie with no improvements and making it safer and easier for the humans?
oh well, i guess its true, people do like to see the same old **** over and over and thats why so much of hollywood is just recycled crap that people eat up like candy. dont try to think originally or creatively now, that might be bad!!!!

the only thing that would suck is if the remains need to be fairly fresh, but thats what nerdy experiments are for eh?
i also wonder if there is a ratio for how much kaiju tissue there needs to be compared to the size of the object trying to pass through with it. perhaps just a handful of remains being held by a jaeger may not be enough to trick it, perhaps there needs to be around the same or more kaiju weight/size to jaeger or other object trying to pass.

MemberNoobJul-17-2013 5:36 PMIf the only consideration to crossing the portal/rift is purely based on the presence of Kaiju DNA. Then they could probably try to turn Kaiju remains / bone into a powdered substance and spray it on the Jaegers. Just like what you do when powder coating :)
