Hello All! Today's episode is a continueation of the last episode aired, Changing Tides. If you did not read the first part, read it now! Don't spoil the surprise! Now, on with the show! Changing Tides Part 2 Leon is blacking out and sinking to the bottom of the ocean. The animals around him are in a panicked frenzy, and the coral and water around him is turning brown. Leon doesn't know this, but what is happening is declared the second most climactic extinction in Earth's history. The Ordivician extinction is underway at zero hour. Leon is having trouble breathing. He doesn't feel very good, but it doesn't matter, because the radiation is killing him quickly. Suddenly, Leon hits the bottom, and comes back to his senses. He feels dizzy and nauscious, but he instinctively moves away from the location he is at now. Billions of miles away, in the cosmic nothing of space, a supernova is underway, and Earth is in the radiation blast path. It's anhilating anything on the suface of Earth, and killing off the plankton on the surface of of the ocean. Leon doesn't know this, but the entire food chain is collapsing from the inside out. Leon is in a panick, but he can't move very fast, and is constantly short of breath, dizzy, nauscious and light headed now. All around him hundreds of fish are dying from over exposure to the incoming radiation blast. Leon was just deep enough to not feel the full effect, but other animals are not as lucky. 2 Hours Later It's now two hours after the initial wave hit, and Leon is starting to see some the effects unfold around him. Hundreds of dead fish are everywhere, and provide a feast for him and other predators of the ocean. The coral is losing it's vibrant color, and predators are either in terrible shape or dead. Leon is lucky to survive the initial blast, but radiation poisoning is starting to set in. Predators do the best during mass extinctions, but with so much food, predators are beginning to fight each other. Orthocones and Eurypterids fight, but the Orthocones are so big that they are too tired and worn out from the lack of oxygenated water. The Eurypterids easily destroy and eat even full grown male Orthocones. Leon is about to leave the scene when suddenly, a challenging Eurypterid approaches. Leon is in a panick, but cannot back down. Just as the Eurypterid is at full speed and on approach, Leon turns his body and opens his bony beak. The Eurypterid swims directly into his mouth and is crushed. Leon hastily swims away with his prize. 3 Days Later Food is running low in the Ordivician seas. Leon is hungry, but his mating season has just begun, and this year it is more important than ever for the survival of his species. Leon needs only to approach to establish his dominance and pairs up with a mate. What Leon doesn't know is that he is sterile because of the radiation poisoning and therefore will not impregnate the female. Even if a female does lay eggs, the survival of the brood is next to impossible. The water is poisoned as well, and will almost surely kill the eggs. Leon is running out of energy. He is very tired after mating and needs desperately to find food, but the fish stocks are running low, and the ones that do survive are too well suited to the extinction to be caught. Leon, losing hope, swims off to find food. 2 Days Later Leon is on the verge of death. His body cannot cope with the change and radiation poisoning at the same time. He is barely swimming now, and has trouble even eating food. What he doesn't know is that all the fish that died in the initial radiation blast were heavily poisoned with radiation. His body cannot go on much longer. The oceanic system is about to get a lot worse for Leon. The radiation has poisoned the water, and evaporated the clouds. Now, any rainwater is acidic, and as if that wasn't bad enough, thirty percent of clouds will no longer leave the sky, and will eventually blot out the sun, stopping all photosynthesis in it's tracks. The acidic rain will cause major storms, and are very likely to crush any sea creature that wonders in too close. 4 Days Later Leon is nearly dead, and it's been raining acid for several days. Leon is now almost drifting through the water so as not to waste energy. This current however, has different plans. He is heading straight to an increadibly violent storm, and if he does not swim under his own power, Leon will be crushed and killed in the storm. The current grows stronger, but Leon does not sustain enough energy to swim away from the impending danger. Suddenly, Leon is swept into a violent storm. He cannot tell which way he is going, and soon blacks out. Leon is knocked out and being carried around by a violent tropical storm. Suddenly, Leon is smashed into a dead coral reef. His shell is broken in half, but he is not dead. Leon is trapped in the storm until it moves somwhere else. Leon comes to on the ocean floor. He feels searing pain in his shell which has been split in half by the tropical storm. Then, out of the murky brown water, he sees twenty or so Eurypterids approaching. He is defensless as they start to consume him. Five minutes later, Leon is dead. The End Our story may be over, but you still don't know how the Ordivician extinction played through. After Leon died, the weather pattern would continue to be messed up by the acidic poisoning. Eventually the climate changed after the sun blotted out. The polar ice caps formed and the water got colder as the ocean levels plummeted. Eventually, the ice would absorb all the poisoning. The Ordivician extinction lasted several million years. It shrunk the size of the straight shelled nautaloids and trippled the size of the Eurypterids. Now, onto the reader vote 1.Pterygotus 2.Brontoscorpio 3.Promissum Conodont 4.Jamoytius Until next time, don't forget to vote!!!

Nice touch with the cliff hanger and telling it was the Ordivician Extinction. I would have to say either Brontoscorpio because it was one of the first creatures to walk on land, or Pterygotus because what's not cool about a six foot water scorpion? Loving the website, I choose my vote based on you're website's info.

Okay, sorry to shorten the voting time period today readers but I need to get to writing the second episode. The winner is Pterygotus. This should be very interesting. Okay, until next time!

Cool story and very graphic too. I like the Brontoscorpio but you already made a decision, and I'm sure it will be a great story. I can't wait!

Well done. Nice conclusion.
