The Mist- is based on a Short Story from Steven King Pacific Rim is an original script written by Travis Beacham and Del Toro. So No. A lot of these Monsters are Re-imagined from the Old Japanese monsters actually named Kaiju

If anything, that monster from The Mist looks more like that crappy Cloverfield monster. Between Cloverfield and The Mist, both of those monsters look amazing unrefined. And terribly designed.
