Ridley Scott has never indicated that the existing "Blade Runner" books would be used to do "Blade Runner 2" but I always thought the 1995 book titled "Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human" would be a good starting point. The rear dust cover of this book includes a photo of author K. W. Jeter with Phlip K Dick in Dick's office while hinting at a pre-death collaboration. Could this cover story be just a marketing ploy for the book? (maybe) I have just re-read BR2 book and have published information in two sections (spoilers and non-spoilers) which you can read here: http://www3.sympatico.ca/n.rieck/links/blade_runner.html#br2eoh Enjoy!

Thank you for posting this neilrieck! I agree with you this might be be what the movie will be loosely based on because the main character in this book is a female, and Ridley does say the sequel will feature a main female protagonist. I stated the thought it may be based on this novel here: SPECULATION: Peter Weyland Showing Up In BLADE RUNNER 2?

I didn't know Ridley said the main character would be female. But this makes sense because Ridley's movies usually feature strong females (Alien and Thelma & Louise first spring to mind; then secondary female characters in Gladiator and Blade Runner pop up)

@neilrieck; Here is the quote; "Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist"~Ridley Scott. I've heard of the novel. I'll check Google Images for clarification on that PKD pic

There’s a short film from Macau being released soon as The Edge Of Human, the movie is inspired by this book by title and the hero’s name is Jeter as the the Author’s name.

but the story is mostly inspired by Do Androids dream of electric sheep

the movie wI’ll be  released on YouTube at 25 June this year

here is the trailer:
