MemberOvomorphSep-23-2012 3:26 AMI have a theory that weyland may have learnt of the engineers through sumerian texts ( hieroglyphics etc) , culture and folklore. Through deciphering hidden messages uncovered the existences of the engineers.
just throwing this out there...not sure if its an new idea or its already been done.

AdminPraetorianSep-23-2012 4:21 AMThis member did post a very amazing thread with the Sumarian theory, however he never linked Weyland in it. So good catch there, I think you must be right. Weyland was very into mythology of all kinds.

MemberOvomorphSep-23-2012 4:35 AMthank you. How else would he know unless there was some unknown contact either with the engineers themselves or with some other intelligences who passed on the necessary information.

MemberOvomorphSep-23-2012 8:23 AMHe didn't.
Weyland had a business lunch with an Engineer Rep one day and got an invite he found hard to refuse.
This was all a corporate ruse to get him to take BLACK ILLNESS back to his territory.
LOL
It's like the film CONTACT where one of the nay-sayers suggests that the 'travel device' is just a massive bomb that the aliens email to any lifeforms who're CLEVER ENOUGH TO MAKE IT and therefore 'eliminate the competition' at source - without the need for expensive war or invasion.
Do you believe me?

MemberOvomorphSep-23-2012 11:00 AMDidn't Weyland get the idea of the Engineers from Shaw and Holloway?
I should reach the frontier in about 6 weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo....

MemberOvomorphSep-23-2012 1:49 PMPS: Weyland going off after Engineers like that is like someone racing off into the sky looking for a beardy God having read the Bible.
Frankly, this doesn't ring true. More likely is a PLOT ELEMENT that Lindelof a) hasn't shared with us yet or b) never got round to resolving.
Ya know?
