Firstly, I know you're all think I've lost it and are planning on posting something like "They wanted it for their Bio-Weapons Division", but hold on a second... Alien We know that Ash observed the Facehugger stage with intent and that he knew something was gestating within Kane, and later on Ripley discovers Special Order 937. But nowhere in Alien does it state that Weyland-Yutani wanted the Xenomorph as a bio-weapon. The only references to creature come from Ash, stating it to be "the perfect organism". Aliens Cutting a long story short, Carter J Burke was sent with the USCM marines to execute Special Order 937. But when confronted by Ripley he never states that the Xenomorph specimens he desires are for the Bio-Weapons Divsion, just that they would be worth millions of dollars to the aforementioned division. This shows... 1. He was motivated by greed. 2. He was on a need to know basis. 3. His being on the mission reveals he is considered expendable. Alien 3 Although in the "Assembly Cut" Ripley does state that W-Y want the creature for the Bio-Weapons Division, this would be an assumption garnered from Burke. When the W-Y rescue/extraction team do arrive they never actually state that they want it as a weapon. Alien Resurrection Again there is no reference to using the creature as a weapon. There are references to new alloys, medicines and domesticating the creature, but no mention whatsoever that the intend to use it as a weapon. ...So why did the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and United Systems Military want the Xenomorph so badly... Is this related as to the mystery of why the Engineers need the Xenomorph?

To use them as an effective cleaning agent in terraforming planets and "building better worlds".

I'm aware this thread is related to the movies, but I believe that some of the comic books might have a clue or two. I'm far from an expert here in the sense that I've read more about the comics than I have the actual comics, but there is a lot of genetic research like splicing human, xeno, and predator DNA in the comics. Coupled with the whole, "... could be the perfect organism," line one could assume that Weyland Yutani might be trying to use Xeno DNA to further mankind's evolution.

I'm sure that sex-laws in the late 21st century have gone so far as that the only feasible legal alternative would be something extra-terrestrial. Weyland Corp. doesn't want to weaponize anything, they want to enslave something. Sexually. Think about it. Boink!

I think there is nothing else to think about, human always is in the quest for power, even if he doesn´t know what to do with it. So I would say that Weyland wanted the Xenomorph just to insurance his empire indefinitely; to take care of his enemies (which would be the roll of bioweapon), and have the highground in matter of new technologies.

I think Ripley suggests it in Alien. After that, its always the usual B/S of new alloys and vaccines and the wealth of possibilities with what we can learn from it. I'd have to draw the line at the suggestions of a Xeno concubine. Ewwww!

I was always under the impression that ANY new technology would be useful to a weapons division. To me, it seems that they would start by reverse engineering and completely evaluating whatever anyone could bring back from anywhere. What if all they were able to use from the xeno-morph was new molecules such as the super concentrated acid for blood, and whatever molecule contains it. These in themselves would have thousands of applications across the board for military research divisions.

only one answer to this..."The Bio-Weapons" division ! Ripley states it herself...for me it's period end of story.

By the way if you asked me "Why they wanted a sample of the Black Goo"? I would say something different I would say Weyland is looking for immortality as well!

The Company wanted to study the creature and exploit it for the Weapons Division. In an early draft of the screenplay, the reason Ash was on the ship was so once the crew was wiped out, he would be the only survivor and warn the ICC port authorities they had an Alien onboard. Then the Company techs could move in and relieve the ICC quarrantine people of this dangerous organism for study in their labs.
