Is this an umbilical cord?

I noticed this and thought I'd post it. There seems to be some kind of umbilical cord attached to Shaw and the worm thing. If you look close enough (not in this picture), you may notice the worm also has a slit at the tip of the "head". Since the covers appear to be opening, it suggests that this thing is being surgically removed, as Biomechanic pointed out. Shaw may have awaken during the procedure and started flipping out. I personally think David may have used Shaw as like an incubator for the creature, but I have no evidence to back it up.

Ridley Scott and Giger pondered "how do we top a chest burster!?!" well... Yeah, I saw that too. I don't recall which, but one of the many trailers released this weekend showed an angle from shaw's vantage, sound effect sync'd with the scene is something like a baby crying. I think this is in the international trailer. At first I was certain this scene was a chest burst (looks like splattered blood on the glass canopy that's opening up, especially the pane right above her chest) and, well.. she seems to be twitching.. But I did see that little chord along with the tail whipping around, add that to the "baby crying" sound fx.. I dunno.. if it was I think it is I wonder how it's pulled off w/o seeming completely ridiculous.

I'll have to check that out. And I'm not too sure that Ridley or Giger had much to do with the idea. If anyone, it was probably Damon Lindelof or David Giler (the guys that wrote the script). Ridley would direct the scene and I don't think Giger had much input for the creature design this time around, but I could be mistaken. I think Giger was a consultant on the set design.

It seems to me that it may be a larger, more mature version of whatever Holloway has in his eyeball, and David has on his fingertip (and he seems very intrigued by that, a little too much...)
