What do you think Ridley meant by that?

Didn't Ridley recently say Prometheus will be epic? Alien wasn't meant to be but became epic. Prometheus, in contrast, is meant to be epic. So my guess is that this quote refers to the same thought... Prometheus is about BIG issues that affect everything. Something like that.

Yeah Alien was definitly concieved as a claustrophobic horror set in space. Prometheus seems to be made out more like a sci-fi epic, but also with that distinct horror that we see in the original Alien movie. Those two combined, make me so excited I can barely restrain myself. . .

...you, me and nearly everyone I speak to about this film. My "other half" is already fed up with me going on about it every time I speak to her! :-) I don't think she realises that ALIEN is (in my humble opinion) the "Holy Grail of Sci-Fi Horror Movies" and if Ridley is messing with "his baby" then it's most certainly "going to be all about everything". When I first heard about an ALIEN prequel project, I thought "Oh God. No. Leave It Alone." But the more I see and hear about this, and from Ridley's quotes so far in interviews and trailers, then I am not so angry... I am as happy as the boy who sneaked the VHS copy of ALIEN into his friends' house while his parents were away to watch it. Heaven.

I know what you mean @Paul Littlefield.... I was blissfully unaware of this Little movie until Halloween of this past year. I work in special ed. and we were unloading the buses that morning when a random acquaintance stopped me and says, "You know about the 'Alien' prequel, right?" Never mind that I'd never spoken to this person about 'Alien' or anything....ever. I just stared at him. I thought it was a joke. Then he goes, "and, oh, it's directed by Ridley Scott too." The ten year old boy in me thought his head was going to explode.......THAT NEWS......Ridley Scott returning to the world of 'Alien'.....I'd been waiting to hear that for at least seventeen years.....I still almost feel as though it's too good to be true.......

I'm just a blithering, babbling obssessive now....that can't let it go....and I think my family might just about be ready to kill me over it........ As to the "All About Everything School"......I'm an alumnus myself......it's simple, I think.......Ridley going after the biggest of all questions.....the unkowable answers that lie beyond that question.......and 'Prometheus' will likely scratch at the surface of it all......As Ridley said, both faith AND science come off baffled on this journey......

Hmm, no matter what your belief is or background, I applaud Sir Ridley for introducing a broader film on the speculation regarding the origin of humankind to the masses of mainstream. Stargate (the movie) hinted at extraterrestrial influence over early humans, but Ridley's film is dealing with a much more darker/detached approach on the speculative origins of human beings. And I'm glad he's the one at the helm because from films of his like Gladiator, Kingdom Of Heaven, American Gangster, and classics like ALIEN and Blade Runner, he's always taken an "it's just a movie" but it has some real notes of subtext in his approach to filming (of course the writers have largely done this, but he's the one that's visualized it). If anyone is to take a facehugger to the chin attempt at tackling the controversial issues surrounding the origins of humankind, I'm happy that it's him! And IMO science fiction is comprised of a substantial amount of reality not realized yet. I think the more interesting reaction, after watching the film, will be the possible philosophical discussions that arise afterward.

No matter how amazing the movie will be it's still all just SCI-FI. That whole ancient alien astronaut idea is rubbish.

@NineteenHundred, it's not even ironic that your thought process would be so... nineteenth century. I'm not suggesting that I'm 100 percent on board with the ancient alien astronaut thing, but I'll go as far as 50/50 with the theory. If one were to do the math there's a 50/50 chance that the theory has some real merit behind it. The city of Troy was thought a myth until archeologist discovered that Troy was both a factual city and a city of the legend. When I saw the Terminator for the first time it all seemed so improvable until Boston Dynamics made Petman for DARPA lol. And I'm not extrapolating that Petman is a T-800 or even T-600 for that matter but in 5 more years who can say. The closest thing to Hunter Killers are being used overseas and will soon be integrated into our society, they're called "drone planes"! Before you dismiss sci-fiction as Han Solo did the force, "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid," read up on the amazing new advancements happening every day!
