With all the excitement concerning prometheus I had to go back and watch the original. I wanted to see if i could pick up anything we may see in june. After watching Ash (the only person that could have ties to any prequel). I'm starting to think we may see xenos or the people in prometheus will learn a great deal about them. In the scene where land has the hugger on his face Dallas wants to remove it right away. Ash then says somthig like wait wait wait it might be feeding him air. I think ash knew that the hugger was laying an embryo. I thinkin june we will find out how the "company" knew so much............also I find I really strange that the crew in the first movie find an amazing discovery (SJ ship) and they take off..........WTF.............what you guys think?

I watched it again the other day... Ash shows Dallas that the Facehugger is feeding Kane air on the scanner, and he is seen later looking at the embryo in Kane's chest (when he gets interrupted by Ripley). I don't think Ash knew the full ins and outs of the Xenomorph, especially at the Facehugger stage of the lifecycle, but was collecting and communicating data to WY from his observations.

the fact that ash was tryng to cut a "finger" of the facehugger mean he did know very little ... it could have breached the hull and goodbye alien specimen .

Exactly Frantz, you is on fire today.

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012
Idk.......I still think he knew what was going on.......he may have made the cut to show the crew that it was pointless fruit to get it off.......also what you think about them leavingthis amazing find so suddenly

MemberTrilobite01/5/2012
If the acid had eat through the hull they could have vented atmosphere or been stuck on the planet. if that had happened, Ash would have failed his mission. Then he would've had to repeatedly punch a car... wrong film, lol. They left behind the discovery of the Space Jockey because one of their crew was in danger.

It is clearly "hinted" at in the script that Ash knew of the Xeno's capabilities. He either had previous knowledge or he communicated with it somehow. How is this scene possible otherwise? Ripley: Ash, can you hear me? Ash? Ash: [speaking in an electronic, distorted voice] Yes, I can hear you. Ripley: What was your special order? Ash: You read it. I thought it was clear. Ripley: What was it? Ash: Bring back life form. Priority One. All other priorities rescinded. Parker: The damn company. What about our lives, you son of a bitch? Ash: I repeat, all other priorities are rescinded. Ripley: How do we kill it Ash? There's gotta be a way of killing it. How? How do we do it? Ash: You can't. Parker: That's bullshit. Ash: You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? Perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. Lambert: You admire it. Ash: I admire its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. Parker: Look, I am... I've heard enough of this, and I'm asking you to pull the plug. Ash: [Ripley goes to disconnect Ash, who interrupts] Last word. Ripley: What? Ash: I can't lie to you about your chances, but... you have my sympathies. He couldn't of got all that information from the limited exposure they had to the ALIEN. He doesn't even see it on screen.

There is also a good chance that ash knew a lot about these creatures ot everything. Maybe he knew there live cycle and other features but was unaware of the acid blood........i think he knew a lot

mendi

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012
well maybe ash knew a lot about the alien because riddley scott already thought of making 2-3 movies after ALIEN explaining how the alien was made, man´s origin and space jockeys involvement in the story so prometheus could be the first movie and the other 2 would tie the first one to ALIEN

Frantz

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012
I assume that ( imo ) 1) was part of the company protocol to have as first priority to retrive any kind of alien life form ... 2) they did not know exactly what the life form was ...but for them was an immense treasure .. 3) Ash at the beginning dont know anything about the alien ( he do too many errors ) BUT since hes an android hes quite fast to understand everything of it ..and how strong its 4) the fact that he have to save the alien it doesnt mean he can kill the crew ...he do it as a last resort and he "think" deeply about it ...and that is evident when he try to save Kane ( making a potential disaster ) and give them the idea of the flamethrower .. 5) at what point of the movie Ash receive that special order ? that is important to understand ash actions

if there are aliens and L-426 in prometheus and weyland is involved they have to know 30 years after of the existance of these creatures although maybe its hard to make a perfect conection between alien and prometheus if there was no idea of making a first movie this case prometheus some lose ends are possible

Considering the company is supposed to have a good idea just how deadly the Alien is, one wonders why collecting such an apparently-priceless specimen (deemed to be worth a few deaths at least, according to the secret order) is left to chance by secretly piggybacking the enterprise on a routine haulage trip rather than sending a fully trained and equipped expedition with some idea of what they might be up against.

Micro changes in air density

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012
Hopefully a lot of these questions about how did Ash know all of this will be answered in June. Good question-why not just send in the marines? The reason for this is that Weyland are the only ones who know of the derelict and as a PLC they cant involve a task force or risk involvement in a big incident. So they apply a little subtlety in their approach. ASH

I am just curious... Isn't this thread supposed to be contained within the Alien & Aliens discussions Sections? Why is it in the Prometheus Section?

Frantz

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012
Then they should have sent some mercenaries with a steel cage to capure 1 egg ...i think they really had not an idea ...

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012
Frantz I would have thought you would have been all over that, you made a post about people posting in and putting threads in the wrong places but now it looks like you don't even care. You made it seem like it was very important but right now you don't seem to mind at all. I find that odd. But of course....It's Just another opinion from what Snorky and His little droogie seem to think is just another a-hole.

Personally, I’ve always imagined that the Company didn’t know any real details about the Alien…they just picked up an echo of the signal/beacon, while the Nostromo was too far out. That’s why they added the new science officer Android Ash at Thedus. Then, on the way back to Earth…MUTHR/Mother swung into action. It’s at that point that Ash began secretly communicating his findings to the suits back on Terra. OH SNAP! I hope "the Ridster" doesn’t expect us to change ALL of the personal notions we’ve had regarding the first “ALIEN” flick. It’d suck if he’s trying to retroactively change what was originally intended in the first film. In the end…I suppose we’re all just gonna have to gobble up…whatever he dishes up. LI

well sparty depend in which section one log in ..i usually log in the community section so i see only the latests posts and recent discussions ..that are not divided between prometheus ones and generic ones ... i just follow randomly the discussions that are going on like i think everyone do . I really dont see the division . i was complaining that any new post push back some interesting ones ...so i was asking to think twice before opening a new thread ..just that :p

Rick, we don't know if he actually does that, you went to far, but what DOES he actually do? 1 word it's got to be the easiest question in Alien franchise trivia question history and what's even funnier to me is that I had to watch that scene like 30 times to convince myself I was seeing and hearing what I was seeing and hearing and that Scott DELIBERATELY left it in the film.

i don't think the company knew much about it either. The Nostromo stopped because it was closest to check it out. It was stated that in the crews' contracts, they were required to investigate things like the beacon. When they first woke up, Ash seemed confused just like everyone else. Ash figuring out quickly things about the Xeno, and secretly reporting back to WY is plausible. As a programmed product, his loyalty was to WY. I wouldn't be surprised if part of his programming was to already monitor and make reports on the crew before the xeno came into the picture.

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012
Ash had plenty of time to analyze the face-hugger. Given his company agenda, it's only logical to conclude that he had certainly learned much more than what he actually shared with the crew.
