In this shot with the big blue guy, we have the view of the back of the pilots seat.......then zoom in on it and it is clearly a helmet that opens from the middle! Then pan to the blue guy and compare the two ..... his head and body would fit perfectly.

I am willing to bet that the man/engineer guy gets in the chair and an exoskeleton forms around him.

@nineteenhundred..probably what happens but that idea sucks..the jockeys were intended to be an elephant like race, now it was just a suit? it annoys me look at the dead space jockey design..it is not built like a suit...it has external earsockets and other details that would be completely irrelevant, redundant and impractical on a suit design...if the race is humanoid, why an elephant like suit? just keep it in proportion...I fear for this movie

@ nineteenhundred - Explain then what they are scanning, earlier on in the trailer.

Taking everything into account...nothing really adds up....we are being mislead to a degree....spin doctors!

Even though we are assuming a lot of stuff in the film about the Jockeys, I can't see the humanoid on the right hand side actually fitting into the seat. He still looks a bit too small. It's been said in other disscussions - RIDLEY SCOTT is not going to give all his secrets away in a trailer. It's about the Space Jockey and I feel the theories of the Jockeys won't be ruined (I HOPE :/ )

Well, if you find something "Alien" being Extraterrestrial...I think scanning it would be part of the checklist....I believe it is a helmet as well. If I were one of the humans and found this, I would most certainly scan it and being that it is biomechanical, it might be alive to a degree when touched...just a theory but will have to wait a long 6 months. Does anyone have a time machine here? or a wormhole to break into Fox editing rooms? That would help, lol...

@Zues - Are you talking about the curved part in the middle. Remember the seat hasn't fully come up in that clip so that bit which am only guessing your taling about is actually the panel or screen where the head of the Jockey was looking into. It was in front of him. Not sure if thats the bit your on about though.

@Cain1977 I know its a torture analysing everything lol. And you know when it comes out it will be great to see who came close to ideas about the film.

@ Cain - I have seen a lot of people claim that the "head" on the scanning table is a helmet, citing that it would be biomechanical. Yes, I believe that this is in fact a skull, but in all honesty I have a problem with this term biomechanical being thrown around to support ones arguements, especially in this case because this "head" doesn't, in any way look biomechanical, even when using the Xenomorph and Space Jockey pilot as references.

It might be interesting to think of the Space Jockey as neither a suit nor an alien, but perhaps a biosynthetic construct created to pilot the ship. It wouldn't be far fetched; Scott utilized biological robots in Blade Runner - replicants. Just food for thought and bait for the imagination, I choose not to get attached to a theory prior to seeing a film.

@manndroid I personally thing that is way too far fetched. Take the image for what it is, he is an extra terrestrial not some biosynthetic construct. Sorry i just cant get behind that, theres a difference between theorizing and taking every frame from the trailer and ignoring whats actually being shown and just going off the deep end.

I have to agree with Jeystone. The idea of the suits kinda scares me. OK I get they created humans, however the whole interesting thing about our first impression about the Space Jockeys were that how none human they were. I'm mean the sheer size of them....the trunk. I know I should have faith in Ridley .....just my concerns.

Whoa whoa, I never said that's what I thought, it was just food for thought. debating what it actually is is moot because the movie is going to answer the question, anyway.

Here is the shot I was talking about. In your browser zoom to 400% to the back of the pilot's chair and clearly it's a helmet opening in the middle that would wrap around the occupants head. Remember Scott has said that the SJ in Alien is in a suit. Then look at the blue guy and see that his head is the perfect fit for this helmet. If the SJs are our Gods then they would have to look like us otherwise they are not our God just creators, cause Gods make their children in their our image. I reckon the blue guy is a space jockey and it's nothing more complicated.
