We can expect the new movie to include a fair bit of CGI effects, as does every sci-fi movie these days, and hopefully they'll be well-done and add to the story. It will be interesting to see how it compares with the (by today's standards) slightly more archaic practices that were used on the original. I for one am a huge fan still of the art of special effects where the designers were compelled to create a lot of the effects they set up like with ED-209 in the 1987 movie. There's something about those older effects that are slightly creepy and threatening, especially the stop-motion ones. They seemed very real at the time and were cutting edge for their time but complimented the story line rather than leading it. I think the same thing will happen again with modern effects, being a story film with effects in it rather than an effects film with a story in it. On that level I can see why they wanted to reboot the franchise and I look forward to seeing how the new effects work into the movie.

Yes the overuse of CGI is becoming a bad habit among filmmakers today. Problem with CGI is; it gets dated quickly compared to practical effects. Take Alien Resurrection for instance, the cgi xenos look like s....t today, not to mention the aquatic polygons in Deep Blue Sea. What I'm hoping for is an ambitious and serious film made by people with genuine interest in RoboCop and particularly the first film. I would like to see a different take on the character and the story. While the first film was partly a satirical action film about major companies, corruption and ultra violence, I hope that this will be something new and fresh while still maintaining certain details like the soundtrack and gore. These details= fan service Choosing Joel Kinnaman as RoboCop is rather interesting as well. The Swedish actor mostly known from the Easy Money (Snabba Cash) series, is yet to be widely recognized in Hollywood, but he's been praised for his performances in Swedish films and I think he'll perform well.

I watched the original on blu-ray the other night and it was great as always. My biggest concern is the CGI. Too much of this will kill the movie and ruin a great story. Upon hearing about the remake I was hit with conflicting emotions about the movie being redone. I am excited to see it but worried the legacy will get destroyed by poor story writing and CGI. What I do not want to see is an Iron Man type look with body hugging armor and pop-up weapons. The coolest thing about robo was the leg opens and stores his only weapon – bad ass rapid fire pistol. I like his armor because it gave you the feel of a mechanical man/robot and his helmet exposed just enough to give you a sense of that human side he had. His struggle and realization of who he was and now what he has become is the real story behind RoboCop. The movie did not rely on CGI and that is what made it real for me. I am not sure of Joel Kinnaman playing Murphy but I will give it a chance and see where it goes. The movie must have ED209 in it with a lot of exposure like the original. Please no light sabers, light bikes, hover cars or stuff like that. We also need to see a lot of satire like the original. The commercials and adds made the lighter side of the movie and a must have. I have seen way to many redo’s and reboots flop badly (Lost in Space) that had the potential to be great so let’s hope this has better success and a bigger impact and attract a whole new generation of fans. (crossing my fingers)

If the CGI is blended well and not over-done and enhances the experience, great. However, there have been several cases where it is so obvious that it almost makes me want to hurl my popcorn at the screen. The Amazing Spider Man was one of those for me this year, where as The Avengers looked fantastic. I couldn't tell what was CG (besides the Hulk, but it still wasn't that bad IMHO)

i think of CGI as a portrayal, so even if overdone, as long as the story has weight and the CGI propels it, id let it pass, i think amazing spiderman was well done, the overkill of CGI, if i even consider it overdone, added to the comic feel of the movie IMO same with dopelganger, i fear of an uninspired story riding on visuals, as for new or relatively unknown actors, give them a chance you know, but i am hopeful the movie will be good
