MemberOvomorph12/29/2011That aint a skull, it's an exoskeleton helmet.(just like the creature from A L I E N was a suit)
IMHO the tall guy is one of the engineers, he is unworldy, tall and if you look closely biomechanical.

MemberTrilobite12/29/2011Sorry Theusprom this is a skull...

...And this is the exoskelton helmet...

They clearly are not the same!
Theusprom
MemberOvomorph12/29/2011They are, imo.
The one from the trailer has had the trunk removed.
Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/29/2011Look closely at the skull, it clearly has suture lines, spotted by many of us.
Regardless, the point of this thread is to air another possibility for the tall guy being a guide made in our ultimate image by the Space Jockey's to communicate with us, think Keanu Reeves character in The Day The Earth Stood Still.
Theusprom
MemberOvomorph12/29/2011Ok, you may be right about it being a skull now you mention suture lines.
This would mean another race because it doesn't match the tall guys face.
Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/29/2011Exactly, BTW welcome back Theusprom (not seen you in a while).
Think of it this way...
Space Jockey's leave something behind on Earth that leads us to this distant world (which we all assume is LV-426). Upon landing the crew discover a temple (there is a thread about this in the Prometheus Discussion section) and beneath that temple the crew come across the ampule room with the big head icon.
The big head icon bears a striking resemblance to our tall guy (check how the nose meets the brow, and the fact they are both devoid of hair). Which leads me to believe this is what we are destined to evolve into. So as a means to communicate there position, history, warnings or whatever the Space Jockeys use this guy as a messenger, a go between, between them and us.

MemberOvomorph12/29/2011Very interesting, I like it Snorkle.

MemberOvomorph12/29/2011I think the head on the scanner is a helmet. If the suit is biomechanical it still has a organic features which could explain the sutures, and the reason they are scanning it. I think this helmet design was a compromise between something that could look Jockey like, yet actually be a helmet. Some designer was in charge of turning the Jockey head into a helmet and this is what he came up with. Definately not a perfect match, but it gets the point across.
I'm just not buying that the reason for the head being detached from the body is due to decapitation.
Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/29/2011No one knows for sure that the head was decapitated. The Jockey may have died by some other means, and when the his body decomposed the skull separated from the rest of the body, that was held within the suit.

True, but then I would expect to see the rest of the corpse in a similiar set of disarray. The image (to me) just has the looks like the being came into the room, took off his helmet and set it down on the ground, removed the rest of the suit (or crawled out of it), and tossed it off to the side.
It would be pretty fun to take some of these simple questions (Head on scanner is skull or helmet), and turn them into a poll. See how many people were right/wrong once the movie is out.
Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/29/2011Not sure about the poll idea.
Like us all I am just trying to figure out what I can about Prometheus from the little snippets of information we have. However I am trying my utmost to remain objective, grounded and stick to provable facts. Theres a lot of theories out there, and quite a few of those theories really are "out there".

i did just throw up on the keyboard :D :D :D
Gavin
MemberTrilobite12/29/2011Bad example but I can't really think of anything similar at the moment.
Spartacus
MemberOvomorph12/29/2011I love it!
I think it is more plausible than what everyone else has said because that Helmet doesn't quite ring right unless you have something there...
And The Jockey just flat out seems way way bigger.
DinosaurRaghhh
MemberOvomorph12/29/2011How about the alien DNA of the jockey ? engineer or that which they have artificially created interacts with hoste organism in the same way to the xenormorth embryo? Thus the 'Tall Man' is part Engineer / part human? This could then lend to the skull or helmet being either one or the other as it could explain why the 'Tall man' has a more humaoid appearance than we are expecting from the fossilised figure in the original film ........
There could be something daft like a pet spider or lizard on board which creates the xenormorth lols.......
Micro changes in air density
MemberOvomorph12/29/2011This is a viable theory Snork. Just consider it from a purely economical view. If the big dude is indeed the jockey it seems odd that FOX would let him out in the first trailer to be released knowing there would be much scrutiny. The theory also lends weight to another idea broached by Spartacus here that the jockey on the derelict is in fact a renegade. So if he is an ambassador or time thing similar to the real gods (not yet seen) and if that is him in the wheel chair it could be he ignores the gods wishes to destroy all humans and crashes his ship, egg loaded and bound for earth, deliberately

MemberOvomorph01/5/2012I can't see how the helmet would not fit the idea of the tall guy being a space jockey. We all know that re-designs happen quite frequently as far as prequels/sequels/reboots are concerned. I even think that there are a couple of things that go quiet well with the helmet theory:
1. The tall guy is obviously standing in the room where in "Alien" the jockey is found which would make it plausible for him to be the space jockey as seen in the original movie.
2. The way the tall guy's back is designed looks as if it was made for perfectly merging with the space jockey seat. Combine that with the "redesigned" helmet and thousands of years of decay et voilà; you get the jockey we all know.
3. It would make sense for the engineers to look humanoid. If they created mankind they would probably want to make it look like themselves; This would also explain why they built that huge stone face which doesn't show what mankind will evolve into but simply how the engineers look like.
4. The sequences in the trailer that show images of the engineers (assuming the tall guy is one of them) are only a few frames long. Anyone who isn't a fan probably won't even notice neither the helmet nor the tall guy so I don't think they are giving away too much as said in a post before. If at all they give the fans something to discuss.
