The ink is barely dry on the results of this year’s Oscars, and the focus is already turning to which titles will be in the running for the main prizes in 2022. The 94th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 27 2022. The awards will honour the best films released from the opening day of March 2021. It will be the first time in three years the ceremony carries a March date with the decision made to ensure it doesn’t clash with the winter Olympics.

There is already a strong Sci-Fi presence with some of the top movies from one of cinema’s most popular genres expected to contend the biggest and best awards. The decisions may still be months away, but it’s not too early to get involved and make your predictions on who the winners and losers of 2022 will be. You can achieve this by wagering on the outcome of the Oscars.

Not a lot of people know that it’s possible to bet on awards ceremonies such as the Oscars. Think gambling, and it’s understandable to conjure up images of the latest debates on sports betting in  New York or the lavish surroundings of a Las Vegas casino with everyone looking like an extra from a James Bond 007 movie. Today, you can bet on just about anything, and that coverage extends to include the Academy Awards.

In this article, we pick out the early runners representing Sci-Fi and explain how you can place bets on those titles to prevail in some of the most popular categories, including Best Picture.

How to bet on the Oscars

Before we get into the Sci-Fi movies that are considered early runners for the Academy Awards, we will briefly explain how to place a bet on the Oscars. Before attempting to gamble on the awards or any upcoming event, you should ensure online gambling is legal in your region, and you are betting with a licensed bookmaker. It’s quite easy to obtain this information, and you can do so through a basic internet search. If gambling is legal in your country, you can proceed.

The next step is to choose the bookie you wish to join then create an account. Visit the homepage of that sportsbook using your desktop computer or mobile app and click the button that allows you to register. Fill in your details, including your name and date of birth, create a username and password, then confirm your account. You should add funds to your betting wallet using a debit card or e-wallet. All transactions are secure and instant.

With a registered account and cash in your betting wallet, it’s time to place your bets. Click the awards tab then the Oscars option to reveal all available betting markets. Click the odds of the selection you wish to bet on - movie or actor/actress - to add it to your bet slip, then input a stake and confirm. Your bet will then be live and can’t be changed. New customers will often then receive a welcome bonus free bet which can be used on the markets or sports of their choice.

Sci-Fi movies in the frame

Now we know how to back Sci-Fi movies to be awarded at the next Oscars, we look at the runners and riders. The pictures that are quoted and respected in the early betting. These aren’t yet nominations and may not make it to the final list but merely predictions to the films that may force their way into the running.

There is still plenty of time for new releases between now and spring 2022 to change things up, and there’s likely to be at least one or two Sci-Fi blockbusters that crash onto the scene and change the lie of the land.

Here are five Sci-Fi movies that are expected to be in the running for various categories next year.

Finch

Starring Tom Hanks, Finch tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world where a robot is used to protect the life of a treasured dog, learns emotions, including love and friendship. Finch is directed by Miguel Sapochnik and boasts Caleb Landry-Jones and Marie Wagenman alongside Hanks.

At present, it’s thought to be Sci-Fi’s best chance of winning an award in Hollywood. Others to keep a lookout for include Dune, Don’t Look Up, After Yang and Reminiscence.
