Having sold over ten million copies worldwide and been adapted into both an anime series and film, it comes as no surprise that Reki Kawahara's light novel franchise Sword Art Online is now being turned into a live-action TV series.
The Hollywood Reporter informs us that Skydance Media negotiated a deal with Kadokawa Corp to produce the series, with Laeta Kalogridis handling script duties, and no network is currently attached. It's also not clear to what extent Kawahara will be involved.
The series will focus on Kirito, the protagonist of the books, as he becomes trapped in a hostile fantasy MMO. Think Tron meets Lord of the Rings, with some pretty badass monster designs to boot.
