Laurence Fishburne says he was not invited back for Matrix 4 (2022)

Laurence Fishburne is probably most well known for his portrayal as the character Morpheus in the original Matrix trilogy, so it is rather disappointing to learn that he was not invited back to join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss in the next Matrix sequel.

During an interview with New York Magazine, when asked if he would be reprising his role as Morpheus in Lana Wachowskie's Matrix 4, Fishburne replied by saying:

I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it’s great.

The only reason we can fathom as to why Fishburne would not have been invited back is if the Morpheus character does not exist, or have a prominent role in the next installment. Either way, for many of us the Morpheus character was one of our favorites from the original three films so this news is a bit of a bummer.

The fourth Matrix movie is slated to arrive April 1st, 2022. As new updates arrive we'll keep you posted.
